Yeah, the red dot is a really good sight! I don't care for the holographic types & etc. just a red dot or a scope. But, in your case... red dot and iron is the ultimate setup for how you like the readiness of your rifles.
I just came in from zeroing an AimPoint Micro on an AK. My old eyes are getting bad and the Red Dot will make life easier. With an Ultimak mount I can co-witness my irons in case of an optic failure. I like the AimPoints. I have one on the .22 LR I use on varmints in my chicken yard. I put a Tech ghost ring on my SKS and it helped compensate for my eyesight. For general info, tipping the top round also makes loading Mosin rifle clips easier.
@28bull I've thought about a red dot but have purchased one although knowing you did and it made a huge difference might spur me to try one on, thanks for the tip! I read great review about the Tech Sights ghost ring sight for the SKS but it is very pricey...something else to think about. I do like shooting that rifle but it will be nice when I can put on some better sights. Thanks for the comments and God bless you.
@readyforshtf Typically the sks was used for short range, but on the other hand me and my friend have made some wiked shots with mine. If you are having trouble with long range the crown on your sks may need to be checked and recrowned as my friends dad needed his recrowned for the same problem.
@LeonRFpoa Based on its name or on something else? What is your definition of carbine? I ask because there is no set definition for a carbine, however, we can probably all agree that the M16, AK47, SKS, etc all fall under the term carbine by their medium powered cartridge as well as their short barrels, but for all practical purposes they are assault rifles by their high capacity, rapid fire ability and portability. Thanks
@econewpower- it is in no way, shape or form an assault rifle. it has a fixed ten round magazine and no matter what plastic aftermarket tupperware you stick on it it will always be a semiautomatic carbine. it has no select fire, does not come stock with a detachable magazine, and it was created before the first assault rifle was ever designed

Thanks for the video. I would say however that I have an SKS and long range it stinks. I think 100 yards would even be a stretch in my opinion.

@econewpower No based upon the classification. It doesn't feature what constitutes and assault rifle and it's shorter.
