The show is alternating between two teams of detectives that started from Season 5 (I figured you would have known that if you're on Season 7) to give Vincent more time off. However both he and Kathryn Erbe leave the show at the start of Season 9 to be replaced by Jeff Goldblum and his new female co-star Saffron Burrows until they leave by the end of the season. D'Onofrio and Erbe would then replace them in their return for Season 10.

lol. I guess Mike Post or whoever works on the syntax of this show felt that because Criminal Intent lost the two major characters, they needed to make a new theme song. Bad idea. Law & Order original series has had MANY "two agents" and "two attornies" changes and they ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS kept the same theme song.

And secondly, if you need to change the theme song, why change it to Trial By Jury's theme? Lamo.

@STVYT This show has had the Trial By Jury theme song since the start of Season 7. Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe were still on the show up until the start of Season 9. The show retrieved the theme song because of it's move to the USA Network from NBC after Season 6. The theme looks okay here, but I do like it better on TBJ.

And Law & Order's theme song was changed. The theme from Seasons 1-3 was changed in Season 4 and that theme stayed on the show until the end of Season 20.

I personally love this theme over the original for CI; I felt the original was too slow for it, but, to be honest, the fact that the music was in a different key than the original L&O, SVU, C&P or TBJ was a big part of why I didn't like it; it felt like it lost something compared to the others. This theme (the one recycled from TBJ) is one of my favorites and I feel it works very well for the show. :-)

I think this is a bad call on USA's part. First, according to the insiders, USA got rid of D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe (Goren and Eames) because they are too "intense and dark". But THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HELPED MAKE THE SHOW SO POPULAR. D'Onofrio was VERY intense. I especially loved how he would use psychology to analyze how and why the suspects did what they did especially in the last 10 minutes. Goldblum and that other woman not only lack chemistry but WATER THE SHOW DOWN CONSIDERABLY.
