Just wondering if you had a vid of your fave catch so I could compare...btw...I understand that you have an opinion...but there's no need to insult people...this is a good catch
omg that was the best catch i have ever seen, i was right there about 10 rows back from it and...wow! i didn't even realise N.Z had came that close to winning actually.
Were the 20 20s produced to stop the Australian domination in the 50 over matches and to save England from a wholping from every team? Sorry Pommies it had to be said!!!!
test r alot better then 20 20's i mean i like 20' 20's but tests r so much better 20 20's r just games trying to get fans because the smack it every ball
mate I've seen that catch & this one surpasses it because remeber its removing an explosive batsman in maccullum & it was the leading reason why australia won by 1 run. So considering that pressure behind it I'd say its the best catch alongside paul collingwood's vs. australia.
The hard part is throwing it in the air while you're that far off balance. The commentators seem to think the genius part was having the presence of mind to not carry it over the rope, but the first thing you learn as an outfield is not to carry the ball over the rope. It's kinda half the job of fielding on the boundary lol. Commentators, they say the darndest things...
1. P. Hughes 2. S. Katich 3. R. Ponting 4. M. Hussey 5. M. Clarke 6. M. North 7. B. Haddin 8. S. Watson 9. B. Lee 10. M. Johnson 11. P. Siddle 12. B. Hilfenhaus They'd be my best players if available at the current moment.
That's what I was thinking. I'd take him over Siddle.
Also it depends where you're playing, if you're in India I'd want a decent spinner in there... not that we really have any but I'd take someone, not just part timers. Also I'd probably take Hopes over North.
1. P. Hughes 2. S. Marsh* 3. R. Ponting 4*. M. Clarke 5. A. Symonds** 6*. M. Hussey 7. B. Haddin 8. S. Watson 9. B. Lee 10. M. Johnson 11. N. Bracken* 12*. P. Siddle For limited Overs...
Over rated catch? tibbotns you really need a reality check that would've been a lot harder than it looked. We won't see such an awesome catch like that again in a long time
Nah, I watched Oram's catch live, and for pure entertainment value, Voges was better. Oram was much more in control of his catch, and Voges looked like he BARELY hung on. This Voges catch was the best catch I've seen in months, if not years
agreed, Voges catch was only a really good one on entertainment. It wasn't particularly hard by international standards, it was simply good because he nearly completely muffed it.
then you must be a aussie or you wacth fuck all cricket because this catch is just another reason for aussies to make them selfs feel better about how mucth they suck shit at cricket now,
It wasn't a physically difficult catch, but he was thinking on his feet and there was a huge fun element in it, and it was taken at a pivotal time in the match, which made it highly entertaining. It was six otherwise and McCallum was hitting the ball well. As it turned out we won by one run. A real good, smart catch. It's not highly rated in Australia as a physically or reflexively hard catch, so it's not overrated.
i agree, actualy only thing im gona say is kick mcdonald OUT of the squad permanently, sure hsi got heart, but seriosuly his useless. im not sure aobut bollinger..kick him out 2 lol, but umm, with Lee, his 1 of my favourites, ahs been for a long time, but i duno man. like, reaosn y he was in aussie team is his pace, and now at over 30 his lsot some speed and noyl bowling like 138, i say giv him a few more years maybe but after that prob giv hilfy the spot his swing was impressive
you make some very valid points, eg. mcdonald hahaha. when i was holidaying in sydney, i saw bollinger take 6 for bout 40 in a shield game, he is a very good state bowler, just not sure if he is a test bolwer.
heres one for you...
name me a 16 man squad on who you think aus should take to england for the ashes
yer i think you got it pretty good. but i dont think symonds will play another test, which sucks, but especialy if north starts to make runs, i dont see him comin back.
i also agree that we have no good spinner atm, we got spoiled with warnie for so long, now we dont have him we have nothing lol
Although Hughes is a good player, I would prefer a player with experience - Rogers or Jaques who have scored runs for a long time. If he hadnt been a NSW player he wouldnt have played. North is another classy player. Good pace attack, but I would prefer a spinner on some pitches, probably Hauritz who isnt great, but holds up an end and doesnt concede. He also gets quite nice drift. Failing Hauritz, i think Casson is up to it with a little more experience, or try Krezja in a couple of years.
yer i see your point on a more experienced opener, but i think when you find someone like hughes at his age, you gota give him the best chance at maturing at test level.
with the spinner, i think its a simple case of picking 'horses for courses'. you wouldnt pick a spinner on a bouncer waca pitch, but you wouldnt play with out one on a spinning scg track, all about picking right players for right games
Oram took a better catch about 2 weeks after this. The Aussie comentators went overboard about this catch. He made it look hard, Oram made his look easy.
I saw it live too. I don't think it was the best catch ever, but it was unique in the fact that Voges had to throw it back over the rope like that. He did well and if he had not caught it, we may have lost the game.
MAY have? We would have lost for sure! The people commenting on this video who aren't impressed clearly have no idea just how difficult this would be to pull off! That's a leather cricket ball travelling at 100~ km/h. The speed at which he had to think, the accuracy and height which he threw the ball in the air to let him (only just) get to it in time... That's fucking genius. I know it's an age-old rebuttle, but seriously, "I'd like to see you do better than that".
Ok Owen, cranky pants. I know it is a fucking leather cricket ball travelling quickly and it is difficult to judge its position and know your own in respect to the boundary rope. You obviously do not remember some of the brilliant catches that have been taken over the years. I would not say genius. I never said that I could do it, I have just observed catches that I thought required something different - like a reflex. This was not a reflex catch like some of the terrific slips catches made.
I do remember some of the brilliant catches, but this still takes the cake. He didn't just catch the ball and hold onto it for dear life, he had to juggle it. By the way, are you seriously telling me this catch didn't require quick reflexes? C'mon man, this is a beautiful catch, if not one of the most difficult catches I've seen in a long time. Don't get me wrong, some of the catches I've seen in the slips or silly mid [off] have been beauties but to me I don't think I could ever replicate this!
What about Tubby's catch in the slips where he kicked the ball up in the air to himself? Remember that? Voges' was a top catch, no doubt about it. I remember my reaction when I saw it live, and I was out of my seat screaming at the t.v. Reflexes, no. Fast judgement, yes. It was not a reflex to make a relatively complex judgement about his surrounding situation. Reflex action occurs MUCH more quickly. He had about 1.5 seconds to make his decision. Slippers do not. Kudos to Voges catch, though.
Thanks. I enjoyed the dialogue with you and apologise for the swearing earlier :~ Did you know there is an American here commenting? I thought they were ALL anti cricket or had no idea what it is all about.
Ive always been surprised at how we dont see alot more of these catches, alot of fieldsman just dropped the ball into the grass once the realise theyre gonna go over.

This is an awesome video! There needs to be more videos like this!!! Theres a lot of videos out there that are a whole bunch of nonsense now a days. Can you upload some more?
Mark Wagh did something similar for Notts in England's Pro 40 league, the same team Voges plays for over here. He may have got the idea from there but it was still a fantastic catch. He thought about it quick enough to throw it up high enough to have enough time to go back in and catch it.
Superb piece of fielding from him, and probably what won the match for Australia.
i tried to watch cricket but my mine wouldnt slow down to understand such a dopey game,,,maybe i should take a box of sleeping tablets so i can absorbe this shit called sport.
i tried to watch cricket but my mine wouldnt slow down to understand such a dopey game,,,maybe i should take a box of sleeping tablets so i can absorbe this shit calles sport.
i dont know if im the only one thinking this, but isnt there a rule that says that if you go out of bounds and come back in you cant have a catch, that would technically mean you climb the stand and jump over the rope to catch high balls?
no, as long as the last ground you touch is within the ropes before catching it, it's a valid catch. After this you then have to land within the ropes to show you have control of the ball. If voges jumped from outside the boundary, caught it then landed, it's no catch.
hahahaha. hilfy is a good bowler, just not a 1 day bowler, he conceeds too many runs an over. i hope he can get a test or 2 in rsa, might help him become a better 1 day bowler
What is that? Did you say that Hilfy took the most wickets of any Australian bowler in the one day series againt SA? Yeah he did, you have a good memory and a fine cricketing mind, well done sir.
Agreed. Hilfy got belted, tonked, zacked, punished, smashed, hammered. Voges just performed above and beyond to credit Hilfenhaus with a wicket. It should have gone to Voges..lol haaha Voges, 1 for none off 0.0 overs hahah. The equivalent of a massive not- out score where the not-out doesn't count as an innings. haha I have worked it all out!

Maybe you should stop taking what ever it is that you are already on. That'd help you formulate a coherent sentence.

I thought the same when I first saw it shivinski.
I've since found that the law was changed slightly in the 2000 Code. The 1980 code would have disallowed this catch.
Malincanada 2 years ago
i dont know if im the only one thinking this, but isnt there a rule that says that if you go out of bounds and come back in you cant have a catch, that would technically mean you climb the stand and jump over the rope to catch high balls?
shivinski 2 years ago
no, as long as the last ground you touch is within the ropes before catching it, it's a valid catch. After this you then have to land within the ropes to show you have control of the ball. If voges jumped from outside the boundary, caught it then landed, it's no catch.
Kable91 2 years ago
oh ok, just found out that theyve changed the ruling in Sep. 2000. so yeah it is valid, good catch

hahahaha. hilfy is a good bowler, just not a 1 day bowler, he conceeds too many runs an over. i hope he can get a test or 2 in rsa, might help him become a better 1 day bowler
JoenJayno 2 years ago
