  • is it true that this only works with android 3.3.3 or under and i was about to purchase the lead from ebay but as im running 2.3.6 i was worried if it would not work

  • @GizOfWar Works fine on 2.3.x (that's what the S2 in the video is running).

  • Hi everybody. Can someone tell me if this will work with my Samsung Galaxy R ??

  • @mayil66 According to many users at XDA and several other places I checked the Galaxy R does support USB OTG.

  • It is compatible with other phones?

  • @DriverRetro A number of other phones have this - Samsung's higher end stuff for the last year or so, Nokia handsets for the last couple of years, most of the newer Sony Android handsets, numerous other ones where it has been enabled by hacks and mods.

  • anyway with video out ?

  • @Aqrab1 Not whilst using USB OTG as far as I'm aware.

  • Its also there in my nokia C6-01

  • @coolrana89 Yep, a number of phones have this including a number well before the Galaxy S2.

  • Works on my xperia arc s check out my video too \aha

  • great! i didnt have idea this was possible

  • @uniforma69h Went out and got the phone, or just the cable?!

  • ._.trashes

  • didnt know my phone could ever do this, proud owner! :D

  • Can S2 be connected with this USB cable to a 3g internet dongal so as to fetch internet from USB instead of internet from mobile data connection.

  • My question is, will it read the exfat format? Or does it HAVE to be in fat32?

  • @Jono6671 Stock it doesn't do exFat, but can be modded to use it via XDA.

  • could it work with Samsung galaxy s 5.0 WIFI?

  • @browngut65 Possibly, since this functionality has been modded to work with the original Galaxy S it may well have been ported to the 5.0 - check at XDA developers.

  • @NZtechfreak ok thanks

  • COULD you please test if you put to the self powered ubs hub, a USB to HDMI adapter, so if you can, it means that we can play movies from the hard drive to the tv using the phone!!

  • @Claudioman2009 I have learnt in the last 24 hours, that to be able to see large USB external drives, one has to make sure at least Android version 3.0 is installed. I have an rooted version 2.3.3 which came with the phone in June 2011. Needless to say, I will be trying ICS tonight to see if I can see my 1Tb drive, but it will need a hub at least. I also think you need at least version 3.0 to talk to hubs too. If anyone knows to the contrary, let everyone know!

  • @voidmansions there is a video, check:

    watch?v=8DHsBO55LWI

  • @Claudioman2009 Look for an MHL cable most top spec smartphones have this now.

  • @eimpiracha That´s not the idea, please read well. ¬¬. The idea is to put a hard drive to the self powered usb hub, then the usb hub to the phone. The pohone will read the hard drive, so to play the ,ovies in the hard drive you need hdmi out, but as you are using the only usb out of the phone to plug the hub, then you need an usb to hdmi converter plugged in the "self powered hub" . I have also seen some usb to hdmi wireless converters.

  • @Claudioman2009 There isn't any facility for USB video out besides the MHL out, so I don't think this will work (although possibly a custom kernel could add support for it). Can't say for certain though, as I don't have a USB video out cable/adapter of any kind.

  • does it work on other android devices?

  • @Shahabk818 Several, yes. Some of the Sony's, other Samsung's, a few others with mods etc. Check GSMarena for specs sheets to check if there are particular models you are interested in.

  • Thanxx I was nOt knowing about this amaZing feature of mY s2

    Thank U once again

  • Thank you for this information about my s2. Now it will be more exciting ! :-)

  • Thanks

  • Where you get that wallpaper from?

  • @scrapp777 That one came with the Galaxy S II on it's initial firmware but was removed in later firmwares, if you check at XDA-developers there is probably a download for this one.

  • TODAS LAS TABLETS QUE E VISTO TIENEN ESA PARTICULARIDAD, TAMBIEN SE LES PUEDE PONER UN MOUSE Y UN TECLADO, PERO NO SABIA QUE LA GALAXY S PODIA SOPORTAR UNA MEMORIA USB.

  • does it support usb modem

  • @parminder266 Not as far as I'm aware, but support for that may have been added by modders so check out the S2 forums at XDA-developers!

  • 41 disliker's have iphone......

  • @parminder266 You might be right...

  • What about the infuse?

  • @Fanlor00 Not according to GSMarena - do check XDA-developers Infuse forum though - it may have been enabled by modders (it has been done for the older Galaxy S, so definitely possible).

  • hi, does it support ntfs ?

  • @24BALLACK Can be done with a mod - check XDA-developers for details.

  • Does this work for the Samsung Galaxy Note

  • @mautbur Yep, check out my Note connectivity demo in this youtube channel.

  • @NZtechfreak Thanks very much

  • Is this the only phone that can mount an external drive like this?

  • @Searchinganswers No, there are a number now Galaxy S II, Note, Galaxy S (Root and custom software required), several SE models, a number of Nokia's (N900, N8 etc).

  • this is for galaxy Ace to?? tell me please!

  • Does this cable only work for galaxy? I have a SE experia pro.

  • @Searchinganswers Now sure about the Pro, SE added it to several of their phones after release with a firmware update so it's possible.

  • @NZtechfreak Great! What is the name of this firmware update and where and how can I get it? Please respond friend! Thanks!!

  • Murray, two questions about the Galaxy S2, which I have & really like.

    (a) Could that connector successfully give access to an external 500Gb hard disk drive?

    (b) Do you know of anyone in the world successfully viewing videos from the output jack ot the Galaxy S2 to some video glasses? (That is, headset video glasses that look like sunglasses but enable you to view videos from two mini-TV screens in the eye pieces). I'm keen but have tried various brands and models, no luck yet. Bruce Thomson

  • @PalmyBruce A) Yes and no. It cannot power an external drive on its own, but if the drive is externally powered or connected to a powered USB Hub then they work.

    B) I have no idea about that! That would be pretty cool, might to research it!

  • @PalmyBruce There is HDMI 4.X compatibility on Galaxy S2 which can output 1080p onto a HD TV. You just need to buy a MicroUSB to HDMI converter

  • the usb on-the-go is aviable for the galaxy ace?

  • Comment removed

  • Can you use this with a GoPro?

  • can use it for galaxy fit ........please tell me

  • @TheReetesh13 Not according to it's spec sheet from GSMArena, I would check XDA - it's possible someone has ported the ability (it has recently become available for the original Galaxy S).

  • nice you can do that. now you can take whit you your H.D.D plug in to you"r galaxy SII and boom you can watch movies.pictures.files,good review keep on comming.

  • @superbich1000 and if you use a multi usb hub and a USB to HDMI adapter, you can see them on your TV ??

  • Comment removed

  • Я так понимаю, клаву поддерживает только версия 4.0 и выше?

  • You sold yours?

    love mine!

could you quickly say if you bought the usb in a store or something?

oh and does your battery drain faster then fat people walk in a RUNNING buffet?

  • @MPOEO Link to where I got mine is in the video description - Ebay for like $4 including shipping! I sold mine because I love my Note more :)

  • This works fine on my stock sgs2 but i can't get it to "eject" I pull the drop down screen, tap remove safely, remove it and get a notice of unexpected removal. I wouldn't care except the phone wont read my micro SD untill I do a restart. Anyone else?

  • how can i tranfer the files from the device to the phone?

  • @15roei Should just be able to copy them across like you would on a PC (unless Samsung has messed with the USB OTG functionality some more, they keep making it worse with newer firmwares!).

  • @NZtechfreak do i have to root my galaxy note so that my phone can detect the otg cable?

  • @MrNivrehs No, no Root required.

  • My otg cable does not work. Anyone can help me ?

  • Why dont you buy? I got one as well

  • How much is that power hub where do you buy it from?

  • @theblade66 It's the iRocks one, I got it new from Trademe, which is like a localised Ebay here in NZ. No idea where to get it otherwise - I'd say Ebay would be a good bet.

  • Best phone ever made. Nice vid bro.

  • @theblade66 Truly great phone, no doubt about it.

  • @theblade66 check the Galaxy Note bro then you reply

  • i just fucking want this phone *___*

  • WANT! WANT! WANT! WANT!WANT::x:x:x:x:x:x

  • Does this work with the Galaxy S1?

  • @NZtechfreak I'm using a professional gaming mouse "Steelseries Sensei" that just recently launched not long ago. I've used it on my Galaxy S2 via OTG and it works perfectly the 'logo-lights' and everything else appear fine and can adjust the CPI sensitivity with the button on the mouse. I'm going to try to port Quake 3 onto Android with direct mouse/keyboard input support. You can already find Quake 3 for free working with the phone itself called "quake3droid"

  • @AiDz0r Nice, look forward to some Quake action with keyboard and mouse inputs - that should be immense!

  • @NZtechfreak when in the train with friends, pull out a keyboard mouse and play Quake 3 with each other rofl

  • My Logitech mouse works!

  • @venichen1 Yep, old news. Since I filmed this video several USB mice and keyboards were confirmed to work (none of the ones I had to hand worked, and since no one else had done this before me I couldn't know they worked when I filmed this!). Check out the Logitech wireless ones with the unifiying receiver, that way you can connect keyboard and mouse at the same time without a hub (and also draw less battery!).

  • does this work on samsung galaxy note?

  • @rukisan159 Yep. Some stuff like larger drives don't seem to be working properly on my Note though, not sure why. Besides the larger drives it all works fine.

  • @NZtechfreak Yeah, I had similar trouble with a 1Tb drive, funnily enough called an S2 and stranger still made by Samsung. It had to be reformatted to FAT32 from NTFS, but still no go with a powered hub :(

  • @voidmansions if you add an USB to HDMI adapter to the powered hub it would work to see movies from the hard drve??

  • Love your comment "Let's skip the customary unboxing" lol. Do you know where to locate a DECENT quality cable? I lot of those cheap ones stress the mobile's connector and I'd rather pay $40 when it's going into an $800 phone.

  • @3Dparallax You can get an official Samsung one via Clove Technologies (they are excellent).

  • Hi NZtechfreak, May i know what model are you using the dell bluetooth mouse and keyboard.. wish to have one too.. so tiny and easy for travel along..

  • @blacksunday98 The keyboard is no longer available, its a Dell-branded iGo Ultraslim Stowaway (they occasionally pop up on Ebay, but are well expensive now). Since basically any BT keyboard that supports the HID profile should work you're probably better off getting another one. The mouse is a Dell UN733.

  • Stunning! Thanks for sharing!

  • @andrecoxa Glad you enjoyed it!

  • esto se puede hacer con un galaxy ace s5830

  • USB Host OTG is really best tool ever... Many people dint know much about it and place to buy. so we selling it for all Note users in India with 100% quality. India Note users can find in shopsection website

  • @NZtechfreak how u disable the touch screen button light on ur mobile ?

  • @U3bElive If you mean the capacitive menu and back buttons you can turn them off in Settings --> Display.

  • @NZtechfreak ohh thank .....

  • Proberly gonna get this phone free over some days ;D

    hope its as they say

  • Im still doubtful if my PC USB keyboard would work using USB host on s2.

  • @TheStillromantic Some do and some don't. Try checking at XDA...

  • It worths every dollar.

  • who got buy this phone before how is it

  • Comment removed

  • would this work on samsung nexus s?

  • @mario0007100 Not sure to be honest, it didn't have USB Host functionality out of the box but may now support it with ICS (worth checking XDA Nexus S forums to find out).

  • can I copy files from the Flash Drive to the phone using the USB OTG?

  • @ZANDRA2055 Of course....

  • Kool video thanks

  • Just wanted to know whether external hard drive would work if you connect it to the Galaxy S2 using this Generic Micro USB OTG cable? Please kindly give an answer.. Cheers!

  • @mabst6 Depends on the formatting of the drive and how it's powered/connected, an external drive formatted Fat32 with it's own power supply should work.

  • @NZtechfreak the data usb connector can coonect to the otg femalepart , and the power connector of a drive cable can coonect with PC or even a wall charger , depend on you ,if you like , you can find some info in my web

  • @mabst6 yes , just need supply power for the hard drive , use a micro usb otg cable and a hard drive power and data cable , then it can be OK

  • @raylu1989 thank you very much for your message. I have tried connecting the data cable and the External Hard Drive but the phone does not recognizing it. Only Flash Disk works at the moment.

  • MAKE OTG CABLE FOR S2: chck out "how to make otg for xoom" by sleeplessninja.. Ths wrks for s2 also , mde 1 for myslf. So chck out b4 buyng 1 :-). I usd to super glue instd of soldr

  • @NZtechfreak I have a Galaxy Note and recently bought a OTG cable. I have problems reading a usb drive with a micro SD inserted. Is there anything I can do to read both the attached and internal drives?

  • I have xperia arc, will this work for me? and do you also need to root the phone ?

  • @skyray3335 I think Sony updated the Arc in order to allow for this (someone mentioned it in earlier comments).

  • @kendii555 What do you mean by that sorry?

  • @NZtechfreak Where Do you get that wallpaper? In my SGS2 I didn't get that

  • @asgon080 It came on the original firmware the S2 came with, but it was dropped by Samsung in later firmwares. You can probably get a download link for it from XDA-developers (although you might do better to avoid it, from memory Samsung removed it because it was adversely affecting battery).

  • hey i sent you a message plz reply...... Thanks.....

  • @TheMegaDinesen Jeez dude, patience much? I've already replied :)

  • can u get 64gb of total memory on the galaxy s2 with additional sd cards???

or is 32gb the most memory? iphone4s has 64gb..so im hoping this guy can get 64 as well

  • @KCArmstrongXIIV 64GB Micro SDXC cards work with the S2 - confirmed it myself (if you head to the blog there is a piece there with details). That way you can have 80GB on the phone (actually it's slightly less in practice because after formatting the card you end up with ~59GB).

  • @NZtechfreak its a little expensive, is 32gb +16gb the only thing possible or can u get above 48gb?

  • @KCArmstrongXIIV Definitely the 64GB cards are expensive (although here in NZ the cost of a new S2 + 64GB card is probably about the same as the 4S outright). Without the 64GB card then you are left with 32GB card + 16GB internal memory. Don't forget USB OTG though!

  • @NZtechfreak when saving movies, music, videos etc do u want to save it to the internal or the sd card?

is it true that saving to the internal memory could slow down the phone while multi tasking and all that?

  • @KCArmstrongXIIV I save it mostly to ext, because internal is already full. It is NOT true that the phone will slow down if you use the internal memory (my god I can't believe how much rubbish gets put out there).

  • @NZtechfreak which carrier are you with, or which do you prefer in the states?

sprint has the unlimted bundles which im not sure any other carrier has, unlimited data seems very tempting

  • @KCArmstrongXIIV I live in New Zealand, can't advise you on US carriers at all I'm afraid.

  • i had read in xda. samsung killed otg for mice and keyboard etc. i tried the whole nite. changing kernal rom 3 mice etc. sadly none works.but on other hand. my galaxy note works! so i should say its not OTG faulty or anything. its the FW itself

  • Hi, I have samsung original usb connector ET-R205UBE, but keyboard and mouse does not work. Only usb memory sticks. Do you have any ideas, why? Android 2.3.4.

  • @sapieris Not all keyboards and mice work, I would ask over at XDA in their forums since others with the same equipment may be able to help (be sure to include your model numbers).

  • my 8gb pendrive is in NTFS. Will it run on the USB OTG?

  • @Onegaiprofessor No, or at least not without some modding on the S2 side of things (there are some fixes out there at XDA but I'm not sure if they work on newer firmwares). Easiest option would be to reformat the drive to Fat32 which will work if the drive works (not all drives work and no real way to predict which will play nice as far as I'm aware).

  • Comment removed

  • Hey there mate, Where did you get that keyboard/mouse combo from? And the stand for the phone? Great setup.

  • @Shoujiki999 Mouse I got from Ebay, a Dell one, very cheap. The keyboard is an iGo Ultraslim stowaway, which are sadly no longer made. They occasionally pop up on Ebay but are actually much pricier to get now. Virtually any bluetooth keyboard that supports the HID profile should work, so there are a lot of options. At XDA there is a thread on bluetooth keyboard and mice and which are confirmed working, might be worth checking out.

  • When I plug in the cable nothing happends, like I didn't plugged anything at all, and again I remind you that I'm 100% sure that the cable works.. thank you 4 your help

  • @ronweij Why are you 100% sure the cable works? If it doesn't show up with anything then my first suspicion would be that the cable is just a USB-micro USB connector, rather than a USB OTG cable. This is with a Galaxy S II right?

  • @ronweij Connect the cable and connect the USB pen drive as well.

In my case i didnot get any messages like "USB host or USB device connected" as seen in the video. But when i went to the file explorer it USB pen drive was there under \sda folder.

  • @ishafiqi

no, I checked and it doesn't there...and even when I connect a keyboard nothing happends... maybe I need to enable the host mode somehow..

tnx but enyone has maybe other ideas that may help?...

  • @ronweij Sounds like you need to ask over at XDA, seems like your difficulties are beyond the sort of limited trouble-shooting advice you can get in YouTube video comments.

  • !it doesn't work for me =[ please help me

I"ve tried to connect a usb to an otg usb host to my galaxy and it doesn't respond at all. and I checked my cable and it works fine..do I need to install or set something before on my galaxy??

  • @ronweij You shouldn't need to do anything to the Galaxy S II beforehand, it's a natively supported function. When you plug your USB OTG cable in what notification comes up in the notifications area?

  • Cool! Its yoda's lightsaber!

  • Why is my 32GB pendrive can't read using usb connector on GalaxyS2

  • @IronNeoxZ Often it's because the drive is formatted to an incompatible format (it needs to be Fat32), but also some drives are just not compatible.

  • this usb otg is pretty dam stupid.

  • it wasnt ment to be used like that, in that case any notebook > this

  • @JocJav Wasn't meant to be used like what sorry? Er, and of course this doesn't replace a notebook, but then a Notebook doesn't replace this either does it?

  • @NZtechfreak this is a smartphone, not a micro screen that u will use with a keyboard and a mouse lol

  • @JocJav I use this setup when it's connected via MHL to an external monitor dude, which makes it quite workable! Even more so with the HD screens like on the Nexus/Note.

  • @wafcar1 Im sorry but this was released BEFORE iphone 4s

  • @pencilattacks Don't sweat it, the Apple troll's comments have been removed and he is now blocked from commenting on my videos. I don't mind Apple fans weighing in on the conversation at all, but blatant trolls like @wafcar1 get blocked - no warnings and no second chances.

  • With the 2.3.4 update on the xperia arc, you can connect a keyboard and mouse using that cable, without having to mod anything at all! :D The best part is that it has HDMI out, so you can also connect it to your TV and you basically have a portable computer!!!

  • is there a way to get usb host mode on other phones running android?

  • @shadowravyn2011 There are a few others now supporting this (see comments immediately below this), and there are a few other phones - original Droid, Nexus One - where this can be enabled via mod. There may be others too, but those are the ones I'm aware of.

  • @NZtechfreak xperia arc with memory stick watch?v=Aw3H3EzdsrE . alsi atrix with usb hub, real 4 port hub with keyoard and mouse at the same time, also apparently external harddrive or something /watch?v=_mVjv1onFag&feature=related

  • @Choice777 Ah, I see, the Arc has been updated, it didn't previously support this. Thanks for info. The Atrix set up is a bit complicated, I knew keyboard and mouse were supported via one of it's docks, but I don't think drives were supported by that initially (probably a modded add-on rather than native support?)/
