  • 1:45-gotta love how the guy gets 2 piledrivers and just after they announce his career could be over they just roll him to the floor

  • With all due respect. Gordon Solie was great, but Jesse Ventura was the greatest broadcaster in the history of Pro Wrestling.

  • This is classic stuff! I had the opportunity to meet Paul Roddy and Ace at Franks Collectibles in City of Industry this week. They were all great guys. Roddy is a class act to wrestling fans.

  • wwf was only on tbs, from july '84 to april '85, i think. i think vince sold the time slot to jcp just after wrestlemania

  • Holy crap! this match was brutal! Nobody was as vicious as piper and orndorff ever! Its still hard to watch sometimes, because piper is the real deal, its not an act he did this stuff to everyone!

  • Roddy Piper always seemed like punk to me. I never.......never will understand what his appeal was.

He just talked a bunch of crap.. His body looked like crap. Little athleticism. Poor mechanics in the ring. Goofy haircut.

    Just an overall putz...

  • It is weird to see the WWF(E) in the TBS studio. However Piper and orndorf were no strangers to the Fans in Georgia.

  • Gordon Solie was and always will be the Dean Of Commentating, there is no one and I mean no one that made Pro Wrestling more real by his voice alone than Gordon Solie. To bad Eddie Graham commited suicide as the FCW could have continued for more years under his umbrella.,with Gordon doing the announcing. How many of you remember seeing Florida Championship Wrestling on UHF stations at like Midnight on Wed Nights.

  • It was so weird as when this Black Saturday occured World Class Wrestling was on CBN at the time and most people just flipped over to that so McMahon helped WCCW build their following.Remember Mcmahon the brain is the one who did not think to copyright his WWF Name and lost it to the World Wildlife Federation after all those years, what an ass he is.

  • This was a horror for true wrestling fans when McMahon took over Saturday night but it did not last long when the wrestling fans spoke up and demanded WCW be brought back on the air and it indeed did return, and to thunderous applause some weeks later.Up yours Vince you dont think competition is bad now do you, that your poromotion is in the dumper in ratings.

  • well i guess this marked the beginning of the end of professional wrestling because by the late 80's after Crockett was forced to sell to turner, Mcmahon had turned the entire industry into boring garbage. the wcw was so cookie cutter just like the WWF.

  • This is the Black Sunday broadcast what happened 2 promoters sold their share of Georgia Championship Wrestling to Vince Mcmahon when Georgia fans tuned in they expected to Gordon Solie but Mcmahon was on tv instead Georgia fans called in to complain Mcmahon sold it to the Crocketts

  • @lambert581 The two promoters were the brother duo of Jack and jerry brisco who sold out and will forever be known as the turn coats of the NWA.They bought there way into the WWF hall Of fame.

  • I think this is theonly time I have ever seen Piper & Orndorff as a tag team orther then Wrestlemania 1.

  • I never knew of this wrestling show.

  • I am suprised Vince didn't ask USA to do a studio show when the TBS one didn't work out.

  • The piledriver was banned in by the WWE in 2000, unless the wrestler has special permission to use the move.[3] Only The Undertaker and Kane are authorized to perform the piledriver (Although Kane rarely uses it now).[4] In fact, The Undertaker's tombstone piledriver continues to be his finishing move.[5]

  • @Buckeyecat2002 Yeah, goes to show you just how much faith Vince has in both Undertaker & Kane.

  • That's the smallest ring...if someone did a back-body drop the opponent would end up in the audience.

  • I was in the Army during this time period, I couldn't see TV so I never knew this took place at all. I equally was into WWF and NWA with Gordon Solie....though I viewed them differently. Yes, it's strange to see the WWF in the TBS studio.

  • You know

I was really into the WWF at the time...

but still I felt a fish hook being set in my soul at seeing this on what was once Georgia Championship Wrestling which is the wrestling I saw first with Gordon Solie behind the mike.

All things must end. Out with the old, in with the new. Always has been that way and always will be. But we remember the old.

  • I wonder if Curt Hennig was watching this match. It was cool to see Orndorff pull out the fisherman's suplex.

  • Jim Young was really wiped out after 2 piledrivers from Paul Orndorff and with Orndorff and Piper. They should have ended the match after that but both Paul and Roddy Piper wanted to punish Hollywood Brown after throwing Young out of the ring. And Brown looked tiny versus the very muscular Orndorff and Piper--just was jackhammered and roughed up.

  • If I had the power at that time...I would have made these 2 a headline tag team.

    Huge possibilities.

  • Paul Orndorff - Best pile driver in the business.

    Love Orndorff.

  • It is very strange to see WWF wrestling in the NWA studio. I was only 9 at this time but I remember the WWF on WTBS. I didn't realize that they actually taped matches there though. Flair and company would be back in that studio before too long at all.

  • I know, it's freaky and surreal to see the WWF in that studio. Aren't these tapings the result of the Briscos selling their stock in the NWA to Vince causing Crockett to fold and allowing the WWF to take their WTBS spot?

  • My faorite wrestlers like to initiate the eye gouge. like Piper. Now that's wrestlin you weasels.

  • orndorff tag with piper is the best....both look like intenese angry at best lol

  • Orton's smash with the cast was a preview of things to come in WM I.

  • And watching this, you almost expect the camera to cut to the podium with Dusty or Flair standing there-

  • Wow, bizarro world...WWF match inside TBS studio with Gorilla Monsoon calling it Georgia Championship Wrestling! This had to be close to WrestleMania, wonder why Gorilla made no mention of Hogan or Mr. T? You could hear Piper screaming the name from the ring.

  • This was not Black Saturday. Black Saturday was July 14, 1984. I'm guessing this match is from early March, 1985 and was one of the last WWF broadcasts on WTBS before the NWA came back in. Towards the end of the WWF run on WTBS McMahon actually taped matches in the studios rather than showing arena footage. I was actually sad to see the WWF go, I always liked them better than the NWA.

  • Was this Black Saturday does anyone know?

  • nah. black saturday, they just showed matches from other parts of the country like they did during prime time wrestling. but this is definately from the tbs studios. must have been within a few weeks later

  • Wow Vince was a complete pimp back then

  • Oh my God! I remember watching this the first time it aired! I was the biggest Roddy Piper fan and still am!

  • The was Georgia CHampionship Wrestling. WWF version. I think this was the last wwf episode before Jim Crockett Promotions took TBS over

  • This venue almost resembles Georgia Championship Wrestling given how sparse the audience is.

  • Nice Vid, Hollywood Brown makes Piper look like a giant! lol

  • hearing Gorilla Monsoon at the 2:25 mark say "Georgia Championship Wrestling" is a rarity

  • This is so cool! Do you have any more Piper/Orndorff videos from this time period in this arena?
