  • Read the fucking description..

  • curious

    why ru sitting down?

    and I do play timpani

    though only in gr8

  • @TacoDude314 once you hit a certain hardness in timp. music, you basically have to sit down in order to get all the pitch changes in. plus in my opinion its more comfortable.

  • Hate to be so harsh, but can't a monkey be trained to play the timpani like that....? lol

  • Things that I love:

    1. The comments in this video.

    2. Delgado's response to these comments. I am so thoroughly pleased with this :)

  • @JARLofSTEEVE Try playing the timpani part to Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra or Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier Walzes whilst standing up then!

  • the singular is TIMPANO

  • bjw's right. The root of the word "timpani" is the latin "Tympanum," but the word itself is italian, so it follows the standard italian plural rules. Dwight Thomas (Omaha Symphony) used to have a webpage discussing the etymology of the word, but I can't seem to find it.

  • The singular version of Timpani is Timpano.

  • @bjw32494 Actually, that is not right! Premier Percussion Co in UK got a Latin Scholar to research the word and in proper Latin Timpani is actually singular and Timpana is the plural. However most people are unaware of this.

  • @CaptBubble Thats interesting, I will have to talk to my percussion instructor about that! Do you have any proof?

  • @bjw32494 I do not have proof, but it was published by Premier who got a Latin expert to solve the mystery. Most people miss-spell timpani with one or even two ys, getting it confused with the Latin word Tympanum, which is an architectural term and the medical name for the ear drum. Timpani is actually a different word and follows the standard Latin singular/plural rules for a word of its type and spelling (relating to gender/noun etc),

  • @JARLofSTEEVE Apart from maybe high school. Every place i've seen has a timpani player sitting down. On a swivel chair!

  • Um... Did anyone catch the insane argument happening. More what i expected on slipknot or ramstein video. What a pleasent surprise. Hahahaha.

  • the guy is just fooling around, but i personally think the biggest fail here are those piece of shit timpani.

  • Not enough lift.

  • @JARLofSTEEVE your encouraged to sit down in certain situations

  • he's not that bad he just has bad technique and tuning

  • @IWantSky, are you a pilot, anyway, I was tired!

  • Who sits while playing Timpans?

  • @zombie2u1 A lot of timpanist who play in an orchestra.

  • @zombie2u1 A LOT of people. Who spells timpani (already plural) Timpans?

  • @zombie2u1 most timpanists

  • @zombie2u1 you have to be able to use both of your feet to tune the timpani.

  • @zombie2u1 lol troll

  • His shoulders are so stiff lol

  • This is what originally happens when former band drummers convert to the role of a timpanist.

  • qué lindo pibe

  • do you take your hat off in your church? do you take your hat off when speaking to a lady, or another person that you respect?

if so, then why do you keep your hat on when you address your instrument?? is that how you show respect to your art?

in your case, it seems exactly that. loser.

  • @timpani25 Do you honestly compare a fucking instrument to a woman? - or a church?

I am.. wait for it.. Laughing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How can you be bad at hitting one of four things? That's like being bad at playing the trashcans.

  • @Socioistic You have NO idea what you are talking about. You are an idiot. Do you play any musical instruments? Probably not. If you do, please let me know so I can make some imbecilic analogy. You obviously have no appreciation for percussion instruments. It is much more than just "hitting" something. There is plenty of technique involved in it, and you can be plenty musical. I would like to see you play the snare drum roll in Capriccio Espagnol.

  • @Socioistic Or show me how easy it is to play xylophone in Porgy and Bess or crash cymbals in Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony. Since timpani is so simple, I suppose you could go sightread the part from Holst's Jupiter. I'm sure you could play in all the right beating spots, use the correct mallets, tune the drums correctly, and play musically. Because it's so simple. Anybody can do it. Go ahead and get a position in a symphony as a timpanist then!

  • Since its just like hitting trashcans, you should have no problem earning a living doing something it takes people years to accomplish, just like any other instrument. You are truly ignorant. You must not have any appreciation for music if you consider timpani to be "trashcans." I can only hope that some day you will be intelligent enough to comprehend the idiocy of your comment. However, I do not have high hopes. You have demonstrated quite clearly that your level of intelligence is miniscule.

  • @Pianist240

Wow. You really are up in arms about this instrument. What I said was obviously a joke (for one thing, it was in a Youtube comment, so it wasn't serious by default) and not even a good one at that. Was your father a timpanist or something? Because I'm sorry that I offended you, apparently, so deeply.

To respond to some of your comment, I am a bass, and guitar player, so I plenty understand what you're talking about, but still, my bass has 4 strings/20 frets, not 1 string/4 frets.

  • @Socioistic It may have been an overreaction, but you should still respect the work people put into mastering any instrument.

@Pianist240 Ignorance is not idiocy! Chill out.

  • @jrjrpolygon If you played any instrument (I don't know if you do), then you would understand my fury. Comparing a highly refined art form to trashcans is one of the biggest insults I have ever heard.

  • @Pianist240 @Socioistic Jesus! At least take this argument to private messages. Also, I am a percussionist in college.

  • Comment removed

  • @Socioistic Yes I am because it was highly offensive. Apparently you are a bit sexist as well. There are plenty of excellent female percussionists in the world. But no, my father was not. I, however, am. I play all percussion. So you can understand why it's so offensive.

You obviously are not grasping the concept here. You're still trying

to say that your instrument is somehow harder. You are a lost cause.

  • @Pianist240

I'm used to being called sexist by ignorant folks, but I don't think I understand what of what I said was sexist, honestly.

I wasn't trying to argue which instrument is harder, I was saying when an instrument is so simple, it's harder to get wrong.

Look, I'm a bass player; I fully understand what it means to be truly unappreciated, and just treated like shit, but jeez, it was a joke. I'm sorry that I offended something you apparently hold so dear, It really was unintentional.

  • @Socioistic You think I'm ignorant?? It was sexist because you assumed that it was my father who played timpani, when it could have easily been my mother.

Again, you called my instrument SIMPLE. You can make plenty of mistakes. Moving the tuning pedal a millimeter will change the pitch and make you sound awful. Using the wrong mallet will make you stick out. Playing too close to the middle makes you sound thuddy. Playing too close to the edge will make you sound thin.

  • @Pianist240

Wow, you really are way too fucking defensive about this. I've apologized time and again, and you're coming back with more insults, and idiotic, off the cuff assumptions. Honestly, dude (or chick- I don't want to offend in case using the wrong pronoun is the thing that throws you over the edge again) I don't care anymore. I could say all the same things about any instrument, but tone is subjective. What might be to ringy, and muffled to you might sound perfect to everyone else.

  • @Socioistic Whoa, grumpy...

  • @Pianist240

Wow, great fucking reply, dick. Let me guess, you have nothing left to say, or no real rebuttal, so you were just "trolling me" or something cool like that?

  • @Socioistic Now who's defensive? I have decided that you were not comprehending any points I was trying to make. I could have argued back many times. But I'm tired of your comments and have no wish to educate those who do not wish to learn. How about this: I forgive you for your original comment. But, perhaps in the future you will think twice before insulting ones instrument, whether jokingly or not. Now I'm done, if that's okay with you.

  • @Socioistic Playing with improper technique will prevent you from playing with a full sound. You can make a sound (which you aren't supposed to) when you muffle the drum. The pitch of the timpani can change during performance, which you will have to adjust to. You may have to change the pitches of your timpani while the orchestra is playing FFF. You must roll at the proper speed to sound smooth. Need I go on? There is much more than you can obviously not comprehend.

  • @Socioistic If you really understood what it was like to be truly unappreciated, then you wouldn't keep commenting back with inane responses that continue to reflect your ignorance.

  • Pretty sure he titled the video this way to get more views.....

Also, it's a little ringy for my taste but it's pretty well played. Idk why anyone would ACTUALLY agree with the title...

  • I've played the timpani for years. This guy is not doing anything wrong. He's actually quite good...

  • is that a Korn drum line?

  • @jesemus33 it's ought to be

  • He should play with more feeling .

  • @birdman5050 Amen

  • hmm i´m a cellist i dont know what´s wrong with his playing ^^ can someone tell me?

  • I know nothing of timpani's but I thought it sounded awesome. But I just like the way the drums sound period. Lol

  • I've heard A LOT worse than this

  • @birdman5050

    hahahaha!

  • He is so bad my omputer hanged the second he played

  • hahahahahahahahaha

  • really bad and of tune

  • shit!

  • Anything on timpani sounds good so if you were actually following the music sheet then you are not terrible.

  • @schlengbryzl Not everything sounds good on timpani. In fact, timpanists can sound terrible just for not striking in the right spot.
