It's not sophisticated it's not even the greenwich village it has become boring, every1 is the same nobody is original more of the same u think the village is like that, NO so don't even compare it to anything it's just Houston w nothing to talk about the history is gone
Maybe I have gotten old but I don't enjoy Montrose as much as I used to. I don't like all the "Hipster" douchebag bars that have opened up in the area. Even the gay bars like "South Beach" I don't like. Bring back Heaven! In South Beach now I see too many straight people who seem like tourists. Straight people wanting to go see the fags. Also too many Yuppies moving in. At least 90.1 is still there. All is not lost yet.
@CelestialWoodway THANK YOU! i haven't hit the dreaded thirty yet but i haven't been to any downtown clubs or to montrose for entertainment in yrs. you hit that on the nail.
used to live there, went back last year and was disgusted by the condos overtaking the neat homes. it was dirty and so sad considering I grew up there...won't be visiting soon.
I lived there a long time ago - many happy & bizarre memories :-D Bell Park was our favorite hang-out at night, after dancing at the Montrose Club or Slugs
Even with the changes over the years it has kept its magical free-spirited atmosphere
i remember when they had "the bomb" and breakdancing outside and the parades it was awesome and then at night the fucken vampires lol awesome i miss it all
By the way, what ever happened to that fantastic bootshop on the corner of Montrose & Westheimer? The people there were great!!! The shop was great!!!
Montrose is owesome!!! I've visited Montrose many times when traveling with my girlfriend and we've had lots of fun there. I have lived in Greece, Italy and in Germany and there's nothing like montrose!!!
I dont think you get what shes saying. Montrose used to have way more culture than it does now.Its being plagued by Fn Yuppies. Dont get me wrong i love Montrose iv lived here off and on for 15 years.Oh and (ha ha dont make me laugh) there isnt a damn thing "Punk" about montrose anymore. Its just Trendy BS. (srry if i sound like a dicl< i dont mean too)
The Majority of this V V V Is extremely sad...

Kelly's right. Townhouses and Yuppies do not equal culture.

Sorry you hate culture Kelly. Montrose is one of the most interesting parts of Houston. All the coolest punk stores in Houston are there.
