There never was a black theme, the PS3 was color during the day and when night came is became black. And it still does that, except now the black has a little bit of color highlighting in it.

It wasn't called black but it was black, I think it was called either original or classic but after 3.00 (I know I screwed up in the last comment) they changed the theme but kept the name. The theme goes with the time of day and month of year now, but it used to be a flat black, no brightness changes, just black.

@Ohsneezeme I owned a ps3 back in '09 and the xmb was never pitch black for me that is... only during the evening it would shift to darker contrasts.

@dontreadmyusername0 '09 is when 3.00 rolled out, taking away the pitch black theme. You probably didn't see the spiderman font when a game started up either because they took that away too.
