  • Lol most of these things sound like me already and I'm only 16. :D

  • I really like this video.

  • your videos are very frustrating cos you dont say what is next or give us an order in which they come. you talk about them at the end and it winds me up this is not professional at al especially when the parts above dont match the titles of the videos!!!!

  • @amazingmikemed abit like a donkey chasing the carrot?! It's a technique to keep people interested...but in this persons defence it does not seem deliberate....these days you can't get away from it...was ingrained in our parents and so fourth....unless it's pointed out no one knows they are really doing it. It's a positive technique but one that is also being used for negative purposes and it's this really to keep an eye out for xxx

  • your videos are very frustrating cos you dont say what is next or give us an order in which they come. you talk about them at the end and it winds me up this is not professional at all!!!!!!

  • I find these videos very interesting

That's a lot coming from a teenage girl with the attention span of a goldfish

  • @joemoe23 hahah you are self Actualization complete hahahaa

    PS nice video i like

  • she's hot

  • I donno.... sounds iffy... if this is a self actualization found by ones self then wouldnt it be completely subjective...to the point of not turning into a list of specifics? the idea is there....but so was the idea of jesus.... note idea...which can be dangerous..just sayin

  • self actualize person is well rounded intelligent person to sum it up!

  • Is there a reason why you have an excess of half naked women in your films and thumbnails?

I'm assuming there is a psychological reason for this :D.

  • Wow, cool. thanks for adding to my real education! :D

  • I see the value in studying both kinds of people. Without understanding what healthy people looks like you cannot help those who are "unhealthy" achieve a fulfilling life. However, it also works the other way you cannot help an unhealthy person if you dont understand their psychology either. I think by focusing too much on either view, that people are mostly good or that people are mostly bad you miss the whole picture.

  • Very well explained...

  • Very good videos. I appreciate that somebodys done all that work to share this information.

  • Sometimes I think it would be lovely to become self-actualized, but in today's world there are so many factors that I think prevent most from ever attaining self-actualization or trancendance. I like to think I am happy, but maybe if I were to try and attain each of these goals, there would be a possibility of being happier. I agree that we should look at our individual needs and what makes us happy, not at what makes others happy, there are far to many fake people in this world.

  • i love her choice of words lol

  • HAHA i love the retarded dogxD

  • @thes0mething I think "mentally handicapped" would've been a more appropriate choice of words for her to use.

  • Maslow has long been my favorite Psychologist. According to this brief lecture, I've met the 15 points. So, why don't I feel self-actualized?

  • Fancy a date? lol ; )

  • I love the 'retarded' dog, that dog Rocks!

  • She talks as though she's retarded and/or thinks anyone watching this is retarded.

    Good god.

  • @guyinterrupted Good video, but I wish she would talk faster.

  • Wonderfully done. I'm definitely going to pursue this. Thank you.

  • Over-simplification. HUGE over-simplification, the whole 5-video series.

  • everybody should look up the books "conversations with god" by neale donald walsch. their great!

  • also a film

  • A well presented demonstration of Self Actualisation theory.

  • Good video, I only comment that behavioral psychology is a little more complex than just "assuming" that a human is like a rat. There is far more study being done to understand the human brain than just the Skinner Box.

  • Excellent

    5S4E

  • I love you!!!!!! and I love what you teach my beautiful teacher.

  • okay i'm just going to throw it out there that the reason psychology is necessary is because there are crippled people.

if the main focus was not on crippled people,

psychologists wouldnt know what to expect.

of course you are right, you do need something to compare the sick to, to figure out what is healthy. however, anybody not on the verge of harming themselves or others is probably at least all right.

  • gr888888888888

  • want to sit at the top of the perimid together and live in bliss

  • Hahahahaha. you fuckin salesman. I can see through your techniques

  • I'm 17 and I am able to experience this for fleeting moments. I am aware that life is more than jobs and mundane routine, but it's only during those moments I can really experience that truth. Other times it's more of a shallow philosophy of mine, if that makes sense. I agree with mandowarrior123, in that it feels like every part of you is in agreement. You feel like you have become truly successful in your life, whether or not you have done anything worthwhile ;)

  • acutally 3 mins and 24 seconds

  • very interesting i love pychology.....by the way there is an awesome rack that i also love 2 mins and 28 seconds in this video hahahaha

  • Psychology: the art of stating the obviuos in a scientific way.

    Sociology: The study of psychologists.

  • Hmmm, this sounds very familiar to me!

  • Thanks everyday

  • good!

  • awsome thanks:)

  • didn't understand the last point...

  • its hard to explain it with words.. but being no longer in conflict with yourself but both sides of your personality both agree... dont worry about it too much :)

  • it sounds like a great framework.

  • good video, but...

this girl needs to stop putting a period after every word. it gets really annoying.

  • I think I've had moments of being self-actualized, but I'm certainly not that way right now.

    Hmm... it's all very confusing.

  • Sounds like more steriotypes to me, but I'm keeping an open mind. On to the next video.

  • is it possilble to have a peak experiance when you are drunk. cuz i think i might have had one when i was

  • yeah in like two videos before this she said about reaching it through drugs, or love

  • Actualised that she has big-uns'

  • :-) I can't stop coming here to see my little buddy at 1:28

It's so mean - to label him, he might just have a bumble bee in his ear.

  • halariously true.

  • stay tuned stay tuned stay tuned stay tuned stay tuned stay tuned stay tuned stay tuned stay tuned stay tuned stay tuned stay tuned stay tuned stay tuned

  • Holy shit, stop describing me, it's really quite scary. I'm painfully aware of my imperfections, but joyfully aware of my growth progress. I mean that was the last nail in the coffin for me.

  • Thanks for the wonderful video!

  • FANTASTIC! I am a fan for life,

but I must ask. # 14 you mentioned "is painfully aware of imperfections" but #2 is self acceptance. Would it be more accurate to say "is aware of imperfections and is motivated to better themselves in that area"? I do apologize for being so critical. Once again, the wealth of knowledge you share means everything to me! Thank youuuuuu!!!!

  • Humanistic psychology as it stated in the context of this time is still young and fresh and will be mastered by many.

It's not directly a solution for all problems on planet earth.

But as our dna is still evolving and mutating from now 800 years later self actualization will be a priority as the lower 5 and transcendant from the human body to a full grown mastered spirit will be the next step.

  • I took a professional development class in college many years ago where the same info was presented by a bored instructor with a monotone. I got much more out of your delivery, thank you.

  • I'm a doctor from England. I'd like to say what a wonderful presenter you are, so attention-grabbing, well-paced, insightful. Well done! Your description of humanistic psych and Maslow's ideas are really helping me modify what I do with my job and to become more aware of who I am and and what I want to do with this precious life. Cheers! x

  • you say things like conventional psychiatry and behavioral psychology and humanistic psychology. are these diffrent ways of thinking or diffrent branches or psychology/psychiatry?

  • Both...

Each one is a different school or psychology, a different way at looking at the patient and a different approach to treatment.

  • I like how you say how each school views and categorizes human nature, however, I think subscribing to any one view of a school would be a mistake, because in order to fully appreciate and understand human nature, you need to know the goods, evils, and just okays of it.

    Very good videos.

  • ..".to become child like not childish".

  • That sounds very familiar to me. (-:)

  • I appreciate the tip but unforunately i've just been laid off so i don't have the money to spend on books at the drop of a dime. Do you know of any sights I could go to in order to find out more?

  • Just search for "maslow" or "humanistic psychology" you can find some information.

  • this is starting to sound like scientology

  • Sounds kind of like Buddhism too or Tony Robbins or any other self betterment practice.

Self Actualization, Enlightenment, Zen; different practices have different names for higher states or awareness.

This is straight from Maslow himself.

Read one of his books if you have questions.

  • Probably because scientology uses (or rather, misuses, IMO) a lot of valid techniques and philosophies for self betterment. It's useful to remember that scientology was invented by a very intelligent and creative man. I'm sure he knew many of these things and incorporated them intentionally into his 'religion'. And, as with any religion or institution, you can find positive things right next to negative things. The "bad" stuff being there doesn't mean the "good" stuff isn't good, though.

  • love ur videos, thanks!

  • This video is an excellent reference. I enjoy watching this and referring to the 15 characteristics again and again to verify my own self-actualization development.

  • psychology is the most detrimental thing to society

  • if you experience ego death you will be self actualized. practice meditation for a week and then take an 8th of magic mushrooms while doing it

  • Really? Been thinking about doing that for a while, whats it like?

  • magic mushrooms? its quite amazing, its pretty wild, but nothing too crazy. The only thing it does, is open up spiritual door ways in your mind. It's by far the funnest thing ive ever done. When you have a so called "bad trip" its because your perceiving reality in a new light and if you cant explain it to yourself it can be a little disturbing. Your best off being with your best friends, and not socializing about gossip, but rather very open ended subjects or experiences such as your childhood

  • I believe that Mother Teresa had obtained "self actualization" don't you?

  • Although I love the topic, this vid is really long. At the moment, I cannot watch it all the way through. Research for YT indicates that videos should run between 3-5 minutes because you may lose your audience. I am at 4:22 and have been distracted somewhat during that time. I absolutely love Abraham Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs...

  • hopefully peeple will reject that a guy 's behavior is like a dog, and that a woman's mentality(period/sexuality) is different than the behavior/mating habbits of a bitch.

Why canine's? odd how it was the canine most used versus the feline or even a horse.

Still the first human anatomy teaching were based on beasts of all kinds with out study of the human body.

  • I think that to study the crippled as a healthy individual we have to have empathy. In that case it's no wonder we haven't wondered about the exact healthy science of psychology. The persons in Need of this study are the crippled and hurt. Placing humans on scales can only measure our mass, not our truth, right? Sometimes I don't think what you say makes sense. As living beings with similar brains I think it's entirely possible to rough out a science for humans using animals.

  • I wish I had a script from this video. I would past it in my mirror to remind me of the higher person I can always be.

Sarah, thanks for the wonderful presentation, perfect as always.

  • self actualization - a natural state?

i wonder if all the other animals are s/a?

the ecstacy of migration under the stars is the collective unconcious & in the now.

we used to be s/a until we developed egos & began dominating all.

will the Dr. tell me i'm going mad?

in what i was told was hypomania, i said i wouldn't take olanzipine-a few months later i was hughley relieved to take the Drs. A/Ds. he smiled-validated, i was so so sad-invalidated.

    richard

  • thank you so much for turning my path from believing I am going crazy. Humanistic psychology is where its at.

  • haha i thought i was crazy too for so long.

  • In my opinion, the description of the various characteristics of a selfdetermined person is very interesting and complet from your humanistic vision. In one way I agree when you say that the fundamentals of behavioral psychology are based in Pavlovs studies, but in the other hand .... (down continue)

  • I not agree in how you reduces the behavioral psychology as a simple study with rats and dogs and in how you say that the findings in animals studies, pretend be applicable in human being.

Those experiments with animals have generated a lot of important knowledge for the behavioral study in general, and although the comparative psychology have tried to extrapolar some of those findings in humans, they make it with some restrinctions based in their studies.

  • At present, there is known that the psychology of the behavior, comes out and to answered due of this type of critiques that have afflicted it for years. But it is not true that we limit the freedom of the human being, on the contrary we divide, of this same one, of his(its) history of learning, to deal with the current moment, why of his conduct, we look for the function of the same one, why one supports, thanks to what mechanisms

  • An aspect which I definitively dont agree with the video, is when speaks Contemptuously about the behavior psychology, refers to this one as we were human merciless beings who do not respect the human freedom and we treat the persons as machines, which don´t have will. is to say that simply we limit to determining the persons as lambs.

  • there's something i agggre with and there's something i don't. first of all i support the fact that it's totally cruel the way human being are threated because they are not supposed to be part of the normal world with the normal rules...now i would like to ask.. whose rules are incorrect and incoherent? ours or theirs?. on the other hand, i think there's no need of having the 15 characteristics for being a self-realized person.the less complex one becomes, the eassier one is going to live. Thx.

  • I agree when you affirm that no person is equal to other one in his behavior in his mental illnesses, etc. It is not possible to generalize, each of the ailments takes his own speciality and his own treatment as medicines and electroshocks.

I liked the approximation that you gave to the matter.

  • sssssssssss

  • WoW... That owl wich is shown in the end looks great. And thanks for these videos they are very interesting.

  • I wonder if self actualization has any corrulation to good or evil. I assume most are good if there is.

  • Oh brother.

  • The self actualised person is an ideal ?

I like most of the characteristics of the self actualised person, if we are fortunate this is how we have grown to be, though i doubt the self actualised person or humanistic qualities generally are high on the agenda of the powers that be. If you get the chance you may like "Age Power" by Leslie Kenton. I know Targeted Individuals have words forced in thier mouths making them sound unstable, the younger they are the more abused they are

  • Most of the driven, successful people I know have many of these traits but lack a sympathetic, democratic side and act self-entitled. I wonder if evolution has changed us since Maslow compiled the list.

  • wow, now I just feel sad at just how far I am away from these 'symptoms'. Except maybe the 'symptom' of being painfully aware of my own shortcomings, I've been a master at that one down for years.

  • I guess realizing it is the first step of change, and change is way that requiers many steps to be walked.

  • This is like Nietzsche with a smile ~_~

  • Totally nietzsche

  • It doesnt help that you have the same intro every time. It makes the videos confusing to distinguish from each other.

  • If you search YouTube for "Human Needs" and click on Playlists instead of video. You will find a playlist with all these videos in the correct order.

You can also find a link to the playlist on my homepage.

  • I dont know if there is a human alive or has ever been that meets this criteria. It is some good stuff to aspire for, then some of it can be subjective, in my oppinion.

  • I know some people that live up to those criteria. They are rare but there are some.

Don't forget Maslow made that list of characteristics by studying actual people

  • Thank you for describing me to a tee!

  • Interesting...I see my face has graced this video without my permission. What is your intention with this video? Please know that as a matter of course, permission should be asked when you are using photos that do not belong to you. I am unfamiliar with your channel and am not comfortable having my image used to support something without due intent. Creative Commons or not, I allow my photos to be used with credit and by permission only. It is a courtesy to ask. Thank you.

    ~jessica

  • Sorry about that. If you send me a link to the photo of yours that your referring to, I will be happy to add a credit with a link to your website.

  • You are very well rounded which is an amazing attribute. I hope soon there will be more women or humans in general just like you. Your amazingly unique as well.

  • One item that struck me --- the resolution of opposites. I have taken the Briggs-Myers assessment. The one item I found interesting is the Intuition/Sensation scale, of which I am 50% on both. So I am I a INTJ or ISTJ?

  • I happen to learn from experience that the Briggs-Myers assessment can indeed suggest you to be slit up which means you know a little more about yourself than previously. Knowing yourself fully and knowing a little bit of everything is the key that will set you free. Your awakening to a more delightful state of existence.

  • awesome! I want be a self-actualiser having peak experiences! :-)

  • Great video!

    thanks

  • you're so pretty

  • Thanks again for the priceless information. May as many people as possible learn from this.

  • Another great and informative video! Self-actualization, as defined by Maslow -sic- and explained, elegantly, by yourself seems a highest goal for Humanity, both as a whole and for the individual. My question is this: what are some examples, historical and contemporary, of (preferably well-known) self-actualized people?

  • Never mind, guess I should've done my homework and read Maslow! (ha ha)

  • You have beautiful eyes and voice.

  • loved the video!

  • My mother was an artist diagnosed Bipolar with minor Schitzo disorder. To me a school teacher and the most loving human being on the planet. She would give people longing for some kind of help money and moral support. It always played on my mind and made me think I was a little twisted. Therefore, I went to a doc and they put me on meds. I now c that I am not the one with the problems, but society has been holding me back, because of social norms, to reach my full potential. Thanks Doctor.

  • Awesome!

    Dr. T

  • What age are we in? I can't believe we allow the torture of others with electroshock therapy in order to "cure" their disease.

  • I have been in the last few years more interested in the study of healthy and successful people.

Such study results are to me very important which woke my interest about Abraham Maslow.

Thank you so much for posting this video! :)

    5 stars

  • Beauty, brain and an excellent voice, you have made a difficult so easy to understand.

Psychetruth, please add more of your own lessons, they are really great.

  • Sounds like you are looking for the perfect guy.

  • )_)))

  • Yeap, again chasing ghosts in search of human's full potential. what is full potential? girl you again think about Nirvana and talk about earth :) "up and down" is the other name of life on earth so full potential is souls's only experience. Go on I like men chasing the innermost quest within themselves... :) eventually you will turn to the right way for achieving full potential. Meanwhile we might take some nurofen and dream about. :))

  • i think youve missed the point guys, this vid is about how psychiatry and psychology cannot have an objective view of healthy people as they always treat (or drug and damage) unhealthy and therefore "not normal" patients (or victims) and can therefore not have objective and constructive solutions to ordinary human problems other than to limit their abilities with punishment therapy and frontal lobe damage through drugs and electroshock. what a science...

  • I think I had synchronous attack; I was just doing research on this subject. Thanks for the info, but now the question is how

  • I meet most of those suprisingly

  • Feathers!

  • Why would anyone want those characteristics?

  • Thank you grewatvideo, very informative well presented, i found it easy to assimilate.

  • I started my Self Actualization, or looking inwards 3 years ago and i can say that it's the best thing i've ever done. Less afraid, more open, more alive, more happy :) Word of advice though, if you happen to seek proffesional help, go to a therapist or someone who has done Self realizatation themselves, professionaly.

  • Hi Sarah. I think that you changed your hair a little. Whether you did change it or not, I think that it is quite nice. As usual, I appreciate your hosiery and suit. It makes you look sexy and professional at the same time.

As for this video, I'm kind of hesitant to accept this information because I don't know how those psychologists came up with that information. I only hear you telling us about his conclusions, and not the specific things that he observed.

  • Of all your videos, I think that I like the kinds that bring to light events that have occured. For example, I appreciate what you have shared with us regarding brain washing and certain uses of torture.

1 great thing is that whether I agree with you or not on the issue is irrelevant. You've given us more information and that helps us to form more stable attitudes.

  • thank you so much really this videos really are helpfull and i loved this ones about self actualization its great keep up the good work

  • ur in trouble... arent u?

  • Great information Thanks Sarah.

  • GREAT CHANNEL!

  • Excellent video. Please can you mention which of Maslows books we should read for more information. Thank you

  • psychetruth videos are strange , hey thats why i love them . Respect From Croatia!!

  • Self-actualization is personal. Also, I think it is not good when other people tell you what to do, because then, you are still bound by other's directions. Also, it tells me that I am inadequate. Insecurity is my issue, but won't that be part of self actualization? It doesn't cause destruction and I learn not to cover it up, so I guess it could be an extended awareness.

I think the theory is generally correct. I would also add that to become honest with yourself should be part of it too.

  • Well, this sounds damned impossible. I would say I sit in my own shit because it is warm, but I think the shit has cooled off and hardened, leaving me where I am due to the high content of cornmeal and gluten.

I cannot even begin to think about this video for now. Yeesh. Other than to say this was well construction and Sarah is still hotter than molten polyresin extrusions.

  • Awesome Miss Sarah = ]

  • and the beat goes on...

  • Thanks for your videos. It's cool to see how there are other people in the world who think moderately similar and want to share what they know with others. I always look forward to watching the next ones. They always make me think. :-) Awesome!

  • This is a quality vid. You could have shortened this to 8 minutes or so if you just talked at regular speed. I liked hearing you talk slowly, i was able to grasp Maslow's concepts with ease, but through a journalistic standpoint, I believe you would benefit by talking quicker and with better inflection. Your intelligence is matched by your beauty

  • An epiphany is the sudden realization or comprehension of the (larger) essence or meaning of something. The term is used in either a philosophical or literal sense to signify that the claimant has "found the last piece of the puzzle and now sees the whole picture," or has new information or experience, often insignificant by itself, that illuminates a deeper or numinous foundational frame of reference.

  • your vocabulary is admirable.

  • this sounds so much like me its almost kind of scary;

and i think number 7-peak experiences could be described as an epiphany

  • If I would say anything about self actualized people, it is that they are secure about who they are. A great deal of psychotherapy deals with unconscious defense mechanisms built to hide insecurity from others.

  • What do you all think psychology will look like 100 years from now?

  • very interesting video. I'm in psychology class this semester and we just covered this, but you went more in dept and helped me understand it better. I love your videos and I can't wait for the next one.

    Kudos,

    Kari

  • Is psychology worth the study? What do you think it will look like 100 years from now?

  • Well I guess eventually, this would all become common knowledge. When every human being in the world becomes self-actualized, hopefully, we would reach a higher level of consciousness. The world should become a better place and the place should prosper.

Once most are self-actualized, the others who aren't can now be helped more efficiently. Hopefully, conventional psychiatry would die out as understanding of the mind is more comprehensive.

All this, assuming no elite is controlling the society.

  • Psychology is worth studying to me. I like to observe people and understanding how and why they think the way they do. If no one studied it, there would be no advances in it. I plan on researching how genetics and psychology are linked. It may be relatively the same in 100 years or it may be radically different. We shall see, no?

  • Ya I guess so but what will it look like tho. Will it be the only science? Realistically it will be because everything is driven by psychology lol. I ment like with Ai emerging and computers taking flight all over the world and becoming faster and smarter logically how will this affect a field like psychology>?

  • I can tell you as a self actualize man thats its hard to deal with the ppl who are not self actualize.

  • same. I tend to become less actualized, because I am easily distracted by other interesting things. When I'm self-actualized, I realize that there is still too much I don't know or still have yet to figure out. Focus is not easy for me unless I can find a more profound meaning.

I think self-actualization could cause you to become less actualized in the short run, but then you'd quickly get up again.

  • self-aactutualiztion to me mean you know who u are and is logical an you are awear that the answer to must of your truable are in you!

so if you you are awear that you can lack focus than if u wish 2 u can practise menditation an inprove your focus.

  • You are beautiful! Thanks for the great video.

  • sound like me!!! plus i read that in high school an felt the same. to that chick i feel your sooo hot!!!
