Outstanding. Deserved to make it big-time. Just one example of how A&R men and the general public simply cannot be trusted to select and preserve for us what is great in pop/rock and culture generally.
This is really an eargasm for me. It´s reel garage rock-music from a period that even today fill me up with good vibrations. I got the same feeling when I listen to THE ZETTLERS from somewhere in Scandinavia and their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". The music i raw, reel and with a bloody drive.
Should have been famous. But they were very corrupt times. John Kelman is my uncle, and please listen to his instrumentals which he composed in the early '90's. To me, anyway, he's an awesome guitarist. He was voted Merseyside's best guitarist in the 60's. He also played with Freddy Starr and the Midnighters, and him and Dee were in the Four Just Men. He later went on to join groups such as The Clan and The Big Three and Tristar Airbus. They frequently played at Bredbury Hall in the 70's.
My uncle, John Kelman the lead guitarist of Wimple Winch, composed some awesome instrumentals. He's a phenomenally talented guitarist Please check them out at CARTOONSBYSTAN.
Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll. Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll
The term "freakbeat" was not coined until the 80s. There was no term for the brief transitional period in '66 when garage rock got weirder and turned toward psychedelia--but wasn't quite there yet--so looking back in the 80s they called it "freakbeat".
@mtopper66 I think the closest thing to a genre description this music at the time was "Pop-Art". That's what The Who and Creation described their music as around '66, just prior to "Psychedelic" - mod going odd.
sailboatsandwine ( Your still a kid 22 barely scratching surface. I heard it when it was live, and bought the album, somewhere locked away.might as well come on here..Good kids your age listen to my time music.
To me, it's also an anthem on surviving. Really great tune, I crave very hard for an original of that record - it's my (and others too) life described in three minutes!
Thanks Jim. It`s great to hear from the younger generation. It might be worth a visit to, Shindig on Google-- Sky Arts and listen to the lead singer today, talking about todays music. you might find it interesting. Stan

What a tight, aggressive track. I can see some punk and New Wave acts from the 70s taking from this...if they'd even heard of it.
