The only downside to these batteries is you'll probably have to buy a whole new set of fresh ones every 3 years because they have a limited charge span :( other than that they are perfect for these times
@ljoch88 true, but if they used lithium phosphate, it would last for ages, although the capacity would be lower. its likely that it would still be worth it because 100mpg in a vehicle of that size is phenomenal. kawasaki ninja 250r's get that mpg, and theres no way they have the power of a hummer.
in wheel motors have the massive disadvantage that they increase the unsprung weight. thats why alloy and magnesium tires were first made.. to reduce that. but on a suv it realy doesnt matter..
only reason i see to make such a hummer is because its way more simple to just take out the original engine and put a electrical in..
best way to have fun and beeing eco is to get a small eco car for everyday use and a nice car for fun on the weekends only.. makes most sense to me at least..
@fmincer the reason they put it in a hummer is to A:showcase that the technology is so efficient, you can even use it in a thirsty hummer. and B: because of the massive size of a hummer, theres alot of space for the batteries, the generator and the engine, without having to skimp out on the range of the vehicle.
Why keep a traditional mechanical drive train? You could get a lot more power, ground clearance, traction control, and efficiency by eliminating the transmission, transfer-case, axles, differentials, and gears, and going with in-wheel electric motors. Check it out folks.
This was lithium ions only problem. They tend to spark and create fires when wacked really hard (reminds me of a series of Ford lawsuits in the 70's). The solution was a modification to the technology, Lithium iron phosfate or (LiFEPO4). Essentially the same result, just more durable. It was designed specifically for EVs
@GameUrg system would shut off and you'd hopefully be safe. i suspect the batteries are in armoured casings, like race cars use kevlar tanks. nice thing with electric though is that with braking, you can reverse the motors power by 100% and stop way quicker than the best brake systems in the world, so if your car utilized proximity sensors it could stop you way before crashing.
but the truth is that when there will be planty of hibrids out there and there will not be too many petrol sales,, Arabs will raise the price of fuel sold to us..
Seeing as we wont need very much, the high price wont matter much... Plus the high price will only fuel our concerns for alternative fuels. I love it when gas prices go up, fuel efficient cars become more in demand. The more they raise the price the sooner we wont need the fuel at all.
I can't begin to explain how hazardous batteries are, as well as their short life spans, that's right people, that in itself does far worse for the planet than the conventional gas engine.
Wayyy off base, lithium ion last a very long time, no short life span at all, unless you received a defective one at the start. My lion battery in my cordless headphones finally died and needed replacing, took 8 YEARS! Last I recall gas isn't the safest product in the world either, get over it, life has it's risks, and lion batteries are hardly on the list as one to be worried about.
Complete rubbish this video and this car. Only that this shit doesn't have a 100 mpg. It is just a blatant lie. This 100 mpg figure is calculated over the first 60 miles, of which 40 miles are calculated as driven by the electric motor. So they just add the gasoline in that is consumed during the last 20 miles, ignoring the energy you need to drive the vehicle of the first 40 electric miles. If this is how cars are engineered in the US and A, hahahaha
Not to mention all the coal that is burned to get the "clean" electricity! LOL what do you guys think? theres some magic current bush? Thats alright, I make 30 bucks an hour working at a coal mine, so Keep pluggin them im guys! Thanks!
well fixing the pollution from the cars is the hard, fixing the pollution from the plant s will be much easier, there is already many clean options out there being created and more technologies being developed. Coal will be replaced, its just a matter of time.
There is a lot of hidden costs that come with gas engines...
oil - this must gathered from multiple sources polluting the lands and shipped or transported to us, more pollution. Then used and discarded, sometimes not well, more pollution.
gas - no brainer there, transport it to the gas station, pollution. consume it, more pollution
engines - disposale creates landfill and lots of waste, making new componnets to replace old, more pollution. Transport the parts, more pollution.
@Maples01 maybe, maybe not. if batteries are disposed in the proper facilities, they're fine. they dont have to use li-ion batteries, they can use lithium phosphate, which would last longer. its not necessarily about damage to the enviroment. if oil runs out, most cars are screwed, but electric ones can be charged with hydro etc. its more likely ethanol based fuels will be used instead of electric cars.
@jimmyhoffa9 What you're not getting is the infrastructure is not stable enough for powering extra electronics, it's taxed out as is, summer is times of rolling blackouts, now you're looking for cars? All materials that make up batteries is made from hazardous materials that require disposal when done, just who do you trust to carry this out? We have more oil than being led to believe, but the fear factor is great for price control, any replacement will be the same!
@Maples01 agreed, we still have about 50% of the worlds oil available, its just hard to get to. it depends what infrastructure your talking about, in the US, i dont know but in the UK there's easily the capabilities to have electric vehicles. the batteries would most likely be disposed of by a disposal company who either reuse the chemicals or neutralise them ,kind of like what bettery banks do.
@jimmyhoffa9 California is the biggest on power outs due to too much draw on the system in the summer, my state has even had problems, hell, a nuclear plant near by had to cut back on power production due to raising the temps of the lake it's on. I've talked to people who are sent all around the US to periodically test all the oil wells, the number of capped ones is unfathomable, the news said 300 in California are soon to be opened because the price has met what they want.
this is worse than driving a gas version that's just one more thing plugged into a house which will cause more CO2 one house is equivalent to 20 SUVS on the road the system should be able charge it's self just like the hybrid does by the brakes.
That might have been true years ago but now with the electrical infestructure changing, providing electricity from more and more non coal burning plants, wind, solar, wave technlogy, ect. That is now old wife's tail, and as time marches on it will only get cleaner, history proves this over and over.
finally. someone has thought about future... finallly arabic oil people will work hard for money. !THANK YOU SCHWARZENEGGER get those gas cars away from streets.
LOL no you fool. Our beautiful Bugattis, Ferraris, R8s, Lambos will stil be around. They won't be electric, they have to stay perfectly gas guzzling. So fear not my friend, we can still drive our future cars and still shake the earth as we hit 60mph in3 seconds
Horse power is a measur of power alone if it comes from and electric or a gasoline engine. About the sound, you can record an mp3 file with a v12 engine sound and play it on your tesla while you drive
man, at your 17 what can you know about cars! ?you barely drive!, continue playing with you xbox, study carefully your math lesson, dont wack off to frecuently and clean up the tables at your mcdonalds job, insolent teenager!
I'd rather go to school than having your job in the mcdonalds. wtf has that to do. my father has a GMC Silverado V8 350HP, this is real horse power. With a great sound. In 10 years, if all cars will be electric, this won't exist anymore, this is the beginning of the end ;-)
My only real question is in the video they only mention extensive dyno testing at freeway speeds (I believe 87MPH is mentioned) not real world. So if that is the case then how accurate are thier figures of 33MPG continuous highway without wind resistance playing a factor?? Anybody know for sure??
Sounds great but considering the horrible unreliability of the normal entire hummer line up, I would doubt this would be any more reliable. The thing is, it's good to save gas, but when you pay an extra $10,000 for the hybrid version, you might as well by the cheaper normal version as it takes 5 years for it to really pay off.
Amazing whats happening in small companies round the countries, and at a much lower cost then the big auto makers. Was reading about a new Li-ion battery technology that could increase the power density by between 2 and 10 times. The carbon anode is replaced with a silicon nano filiment anode. Electric is definitely the future.
Dammit I never saw this. would of bought one
