Well, what a chauvinistic ideal Despina has! "For the glory of the fairer sex." Ha!
Wow. 18th century ideals and contemporary ones are quite distinct. The 18th century had pulchritudinous music and art, but could one ever deal with the ideals of the time? I'd sure be up debating everything and questioning everyone's authority- hence I'd get in a lot trouble quite quickly. Man, I do love the time in which I live in. Just another reason to love the twenty-first century.
@NemoProkofiev551 I don't know..... if anything, Despina is an early feminist. She's telling the girls to do whatever makes them happy, to deny ideals of propriety and the social norm. The girls are very 18th century, however, Despina is hundreds of years ahead of her time.
@PiikMul Is that what I said? I didn't say she was a perfect character. Despina doesn't believe that anything more than a little bit of scandal is going to be the outcome of all of this. I think she actually cares very much for the girls and wants them to lighten up a bit. It is the men that are the true bad ones in this opera. Btw, this is Youtube, there is no need for such a heavy-handed response to a simple comment.
@PiikMul Lying and deceptive feminists? Your selective blindness is almost comical, commenting as such on an opera about two self-absorbed men throwing their fiancees into utter confusion and emotional turmoil (by deception, by the way) for a stupid bet!
I wonder what Mozart felt about this opera. As I watch the translation, I wonder if he agreed with the sentiments, or if he felt like he should be better than them, or if... I don't know, if they made him feel a little bit uncomfortable... guilty--- I mean, he wasn't always faithful to his Constanze.
Maybe that's part of the point of the opera! I don't know.

@meriomeri So feminism is all about lying and deceiving people as long as it serves your goals? Nice ideals.

And I know I've talked about Miah's laugh in at least two other video comments, but it's so funny how Vondung's laugh sounds more "sopranic!"

Have you seen the interview with them? Anke has a really...deep voice...Its kind of scary! I guess I do prefer her laugh though.
I don't really like this Despina...good voice but just a weird shaped face...it makes her acting weird!
