I think Sam Is rewarded by who ever is leaping. The reward is the choice to go home but he feels that no matter how much he wants to go home he owes al for saving his life and always being there him. Also I think he feels guilty for getting angry at al when al tries to make him stop his wife from remarrying and when Sam doesn't do it Sam feels a sense of guilt but he can't change it. Then he realizes how al felt when he gets leaped into himself and tries to change his own family. So he leaps b

Even thought the show had the science fiction quality, it had a deeper theme about people and how we affect each other. I miss shows like this on t.v.....Anymore the shows are about "pushing the envelope"...or the "shock factor"..or "reality shows with silly acting people"....Anyway, Sam where ever you are leaping tonight...Godspeed! You are missed.

I was a faithful watcher of this program and many times I have sat crying and am still fascinated with the thought of Time Travel - if possible, only to undo a few things or do things I didn't or was afraid of at the time. But if we change any moment in our past we might night be where we are now. It may be better, but it could also be worse than where we are now... Best to learn the lesson, forgive and move on...

I'm not sure of the name of episode but sam is undrcover cop ment to save his partner..but al gets him to be friends wth the lady in video. But sam doesn't kno that it is al's wife...he being a p.o.w. in vietnam during this time......she ends up marrying someone else thnking tht al is dead from war...al uses sam to distract her from other guy...Quoting Al "she is the only one I ever loved"...Which wants makes ending of series so sweet...sam goes back and tells her to wait on Al b/c he is alive

There are two things that make the ending of this show great. #1 Sam was told that he could always have leaped home if he truly wanted to at anytime.

#2 He would pushed on knowing Al would lose him.

Why would Sam sacrifice his contact with Al? Unless, as I said, he lost contact with Al because he told Beth about Al, making Al never teaming up with Sam to begin with.

By the way, in the finale, when Sam leaps to tell Beth, who does he leap into?

probs because he knew that al really wasn't happy without beth and i think when he leaped back to tell beth about al he didn't leap into anyone...i think then he realized that he had the power to leap wherever he wanted to and who ever he wanted to....i think =)

I believe in finale when Sam leaped into himself in the bar, that was just a pit stop, as "God" stated. After knowing Sam could leap himself anywhere, Sam leaped once again into himself inside Beth's house. When he set right what once went wrong, Sam then leaped into young Al to help him get home faster to Beth. And then, Sam never leaped home.

They say there was only one trilogy in the series (entitled "Trilogy"); however there was another... but they were spread out throughout season 5. I'd like to call that trilogy "The Evil Leaper".

On that note, did they ever explain how Alia's project came about? How did nobody from Quantum Leap know about it?

Also, we know when Sam leaps into someone ("The Leaper"), The Leaper leaps into Sam. When the two swap places again after Sam's finished, why does The Leaper not remember the future?

Another confusion I have is in the season 2 finale "MIA" where Sam gets upset at Al for trying to get Sam to break the rules by benefitting Al's life instead of doing what he was actually there to do. How can Sam get upset at that when in the very next episode "The Leap Home" (season 3 premiere), Sam tries to better the lives of his family (stopping his dad and brother from dying and his sister from being abused)?

Sam never made it home. Even in the last episode...he winds up leaping again. It's been awhile since I've seen the last show...but from what I recall, Sam continued to leap.

He was given a choice by a character who we're lead to believe is God but, it's only implied. He could go home or he could continue to Leap and set right what once went wrong. Since this was why he started project Quantum Leap in the first place, Sam chose the noble option of continuing to help others rather than going home. When Al sacrifices his freedom in the past so Sam can save his brother. BEcoming a POW and believed to be dead for years..his wife marries another and he losses her forever.

i agree. The last episode of season 2 is my favourite. Al wants so desperately to be with Beth. Its so sad. Im so glad Sam sacrificed his contact with Al to give him his life back with Beth. In my opinion, it was the perfect ending. But how I long for more. Quantum Leap forever.
