  • any idea which tube amps they used on this album?

  • This is the song that made me fall in love with the SY. The whole Sister album is fantastic, but the way it starts...the drumbeat throws you in the realm of Heart.

  • The GREATEST band in my life time!

  • Probably the greatest song of all-time.

  • probably? definately! haha

  • The first concert i ever went to was Lollapalooza. The bands were Jesus lizard, mighty mighty bosstones, beck, elastica, pavement, cypress hill, hole and sonic youth. At the time i was a typical 15 year old Canadian Nirvana fan...then i say these bands and in particular pavement and sonic youth. This band really changed the way i looked at music and continues to do so. We need more bands like this and less like the crap thats been on the radio for more than the last 10 years.

    Peace to all.

  • I never saw Sonic alive, please thurston come to Brasil.

  • one of the most amazing songs ever...best band on earth

  • yep

  • isn't evol the best album ever? sister making a close second

  • Evol is not even top-3 for me: 1. Sister, 2. Daydream Nation, 3. Goo.

  • Thurston forgot to sing two lines "her light eyes were dancing/she is insane...

  • Sonic Youth. CHIKA CHIKA YEAH!

  • I wish there was footage of the 84' show in London. Thats the one where everything broke and Thurston went apeshit!

  • I'll freak out everytime I hear this for the rest of my life.

12/87: I stopped by my friend's dorm room at hunter college on my way to JFK with $50 and a one way ticket to Amsterdam. He gave me a going away present: a copy of Sister that he'd put on cassette. I kept it playing into the spring from Bob's Hostel to the boat squats and the cracked houses I occupied. Without it, I would have thrown myself into one of the canals just to feed the ducks.

  • beautiful

  • very touching. during the same period in my life, a copy of being and time wasn't so lucky. i finished it in a half-sunken house boat just off marningstrat when i found out about heidegger's rather odd political affinities. i went above deck and tossed it, noticing the arch eyebrows of the circling water fowl. hopefully they'd be able to absorb it without becoming a menace, i thought nervously. your nickname brings it all back. thanks.

  • wow.

i've often felt the same way...

    D.

  • although a massive MBV fan i can only make the connection that this may be like them cos of the way Lee is using his tremelo arm. I think Kim's 'The Future is static...'verse is a moment of pure haunting futuristic fear and shows Kim's incredible power that so little gets mentioned. One of the finest females in rock EVER!

  • My Bloody Valentine is this with standard guitar tunings and less creativity.

  • I disagree. Also, MBV rarely uses standard.

  • You're, of course correct. Since they are pretty famous for doing crazy shit with their guitars, I really have no defense.

That was a pretty dumbass comment I posted actually. I wonder if I was drunk or something. . .

I think Sonic Youth is a much more interesting band than MBV, but I don't know why I was picking on them.

  • I love Sonic Youth. My brother dislikes them, he says they're noise. Psh, what does he know?

  • Great, boy...

  • im also 12 and i hav gone from listenin 2 shitty ass nickel back and linkib park to sonic youth and smashing pumpkins in a year woohoo

  • may i recomend polvo?

  • Bravo! Try Nomeansno next for instance!

  • my bloody valentine, perhaps?

  • good for you you must have been inspired by guitar hero

  • im new to sonic youth i have known and had some songs downloaded from them for a couple monthes now but i recently heard this song and it became my favorite song and im starting to gewt into sonic youth should i get daydream nation or sister as my first cd?

  • Daydream nation (it was one of Kurt Cobains favorite albums)

  • Sister.

  • GO Daydream first. You will love it. Keep with the good tunes..

  • EVOL!

  • Sister! DN is way overrated. Seriously. Get Sister, Evol, Sonic Nurse - those are the truly magic albums. Rather Ripped is a bummer, hope their next will be better.

  • Daydream Nation overrated? By who?

  • haha

    you said that in um.....

    santana music vid

  • WTF?

  • nvm....

    just deja vu

  • my future is static!!

  • This is pretty amazing.

  • what show is this? because there are few videos from this gig(i wanna be your dog with iggy for example)...is there any place to download it?

  • if you're a fourteen-year-old girl who listens to sonic youth you've got it made.

  • Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins are those bands that are so great and legendary that they will always be the standards for other bands to live up to. Currently, Queens of the Stone Age, The White Stripes, and The Silversun Pickups are the only bands that are really amazing to me.

  • I totally agree with you, check out autolux, i think you will like them.

  • '88-'90 was the beast years f0r me too!Experimental music is ART!Pixies one of my favor. band..but after SY.

  • I agree with you. But you have to extend that list to Tool, PJ Harvey and Jeff buckley... as well as Sonic youth, Nirvana, Pixies and Smashing pumpkins which you have already mentioned. Late 80's, early 90's was an excellent period for emerging legendary bands.

To compare... late 90's, early 2000's; what bands emerged for future legendary status? I cant think of many... but why is that?

  • Every nickleback song sounds the same.

  • I know dude, sorry, I think I was trying to be a braindead jock or something

  • ugh Nickleback. they're pigs.

  • as a representative of the national piggy rights corporation I must inform you that one (if not all ) of my clients,,sir oinksalot has took a great deal of offence to your comparing the regurgitated musical shit-vomit of nickleback to the noble swine, who selflessly lays down his flesh to bacon enthusiasts everywhere, sir oinksalot actually plays flute in a band of tone deaf epileptic pigs that are approximately 48675 times better than the nickleback monstrosity

  • lol wow, how long did it take you to come up with that? touche brother touche. got any videos of siroinksalot and his pre-bacon friends? (: I'm vegetarian if it makes you feel any better.

and just so I feel like I'm not getting off topic...THIS SONG IS KILLER!!! wooooo Sonic Youth, musical innovators!!!

  • the White Stipes go completely over my head. What is it about them that is so good?

  • Sonic Youth...a living legend

  • Nobody beats this. No matter what other bands I listen to, I keep coming back to sonic youth

  • great

  • true pioneers

  • wow, they Are all really skinny! thanks for posting this, spookhol! this is an awesome video!

  • This is what I call beautiful

  • damn this is sweet. I'm not aware of too much music so groundbreaking from the late 80's. Eff'n brilliant!

  • later on at this gig Iggy came on stage and did I Wanna Be Your Dog... orgasmic

  • what a great band

  • AWESOME

  • holy crapes thyre all so skinny, even lee.Actually Kim looks the most nuitritioned here...

  • classic...

  • Great band.

  • this is when i first saw SY and this song is forever etched into me. i "learned" guitar by playing along to the sister album.

  • this is probably the first time I saw them too. this is from the "Screaming Fields of Sonic Love" VHS that came out in the 90s, and in my opinion is they're best live performance ever. saw them in 2005 and they didn't sound as clear and polished as they do here. i wish i could get hold of the full concert
