  • same problem with mine.. i hate my phone

  • Well to let you know....., people where I live always turn their phones upside down because the tower thing that receives the signal is on bottom near the back of the phone since they don't have enough space at the top..., I turn my phone upside down even in full service areas.., I live in a deadzone so turning it upside down where I live doesn't work at all.

  • The reason that happens is because it most newer phones such as this phone have the antenna located at the bottom of the device.

  • hey this happend to me

  • And scratch that I tested that back cover thing and i do lose signal but about 2/3 of my signal. which is bizzare.

  • I havent had issues with mine and mine runs on ATT. But i have the phone through straighttalk. So idk but it runs fine for me.

  • your phone has an accelerometer attached on the antenna. hahaha

  • hey i have the same problem too with my e71! loss of signal.....

  • in most phones, the antenna is located at the end of a thin white cable at the bottom of the phone and obviously if you invert the phone, the antenna will be at the top and will in turn receive a stronger signal.. hope this helps with anything

  • when the phone is tipped upside down...he is pouring the bars out of the phone...

its like spilling a glass of water. you wouldnt do that to a glass of water....you shouldnt do it to a phone. someone might step on the bars and fall!

  • dude.. may b dis a really serious problm... plz get i checkd... coz my piece is workin vry well..

  • I laughed with CC on xD

  • i read in a forum that this problem was solved in models produced from 2009

  • Yeah what's with that I have this phone and it does the something

  • Have to say that I don't share this problem at all.

  • ya man m too facing the same problem bt holding phone with fingertips that too only the middle or upper body gives full strebgth bt nothng cn b done 4 tis

  • the only thing i can think of is a position of internal antenna inside the phone housing . it is located in the bottom part of the phone right under the keyboard . and that is where your hands usually are . now if you have any silver or titanium jewelry on your body , that might cause small stress for antenna to gain signal . when you flip the phone , you no longer hold your hand over side of the phone with antenna . so try not to cover bottom back side of the phone with your fingers good luck

  • I don't have that kind of issues.. also I don't have an antenna figure beside the bar, but instead the text "3G".

But also the video is nearly 2 years old so it might be Nokia solved it in some way.

But it's worth to know (I have engineer background) the antenna position and direction can make a huge difference and also it's possible to put an antenna in a mobile phone so that it would affect the performance as people grab their hands all over the phone, better learn HOW to keep the mobile phone

  • Hmmmm I have a video with a similair issue up, my guess is by holding the bottom of the phone it covers the aeriel, which might be held in the bottom?

  • so glad i am still using old technology, ive heard these problems are common with alot of 3G phones,

  • HAHA youve got a problem

  • LOL!

  • I have this same problem, I have no idea what to do.

  • I have this problem too, what can I do?

  • during an ongoin call there are frequent breaks in my caller's voice .. im not sure if its got somethin to with the above issue .. signal seems to b consistent .. can someone tell me wats wrong pls pls .. thanx in advance

  • I can`t believe anyone says this is a great phone. What good it is when it has reception problems. nokia should have some ethics and call them all back.

  • @ateshify

i don't have these problems, maybe he'd change his phone under guarantee. So for me it's great.

  • The antennas probably are in the bottom. The top rear area been occupied by the camera and LED flash.

FYI Apple's iPhone also has the antennas in the bottom. I've found this phone works just fine, and has no reception issues.

  • I second that. It's bloody awful if you have weak reception. Put a few fingers flat over the base of the phone and reception tends to crash. Remove from base and hold at sides or top and hey presto, a booming signal again.

An antenna at the bottom of the phone. What a bloody joke. It would be a great phone if only it didn't have that one fatal flay, that I struggle to make phone calls from the flipping thing. Pathetic.

  • Perhaps it's affected by gravity?

  • I'm having lots of signal trouble with my E71, on T-Mobile UK

    Still a great phone though

  • I am awaiting my 2nd replacement as it will not work on the 900mhz 3g in Australia, but an identical one at the shop will?!?!?! weird!!!

  • Excellent information Sir - many thanks . you are right - its absolutely bizarre

  • My E71 is on 3. I have trouble receiving texts and Signal can sometimes be very weak.

  • thatz ur operator line problem..not the phone..i do have e71,but i didnt face that kind of problem.

  • I bought my nokia e71 from china and bought a AT&T sim card for it, it works perfectly fine, and my friend, who owns a nokia e71x(american version) works fine for him too. when we hold our phones upside down we lose connection instead of increased connection, and when we put our hands over the back it dosent change. maybe in chinese and american versions the phone is diffrently made...

  • does this problem only happen if you have it in Dual mode? What happens when you turn the 3G signal off, i think its called GSM mode?

  • This happens to me as well with my E71, but funny enough this only happens to me everytime i visit England and my operator automaticly swithes over to Vodafone. Here in Sweden i have full bars no matter what. it's so weird.

  • Did anyone figure out how to solve this problem? I am very close to smashing it against the wall.

Anyone want to buy a Nokia E71?

  • how did you put it into an offline mode??

...anyway, my memory card for this phone has been totally swiped. do you know how to retrieve the lost files??

  • that's interesting, i don't have this problem with my e71

  • @kkkaurr Some units have this problem ! Not all.

  • i am facing same problem with e75

  • IS this only affecting people on Vodafone , I never faced this problem on a O2 network ???

  • No as I'm on 3 and it also happens.

  • From all the people using 3, I hear 3 has the worst reception when compared to any other network. What do you say? Have you tried a different sim on your E71!!

  • I dont agree i have been on 3 for many years now and have never had a reception problem and i always had reception when others didnt, however after having my phone upgraded to E71, i get constant yoyo signal no matter how I hold it.

  • I've been using 3UK for almost three years now. Reception has always been great for me. Unlimited Skype is the best thing on 3UK though for my use.

However my happy time with 3 is nearly at an end, as I'm emigrating at Xmas.

  • +1 nokia e71 owner's with same issue, one day i have important call, and the signal just lost at the middle of conversation. I like to know if this issues happen in all e71 type and color ?

  • Nokia. LOL

  • OMG OMG I experienced the same thing w/ my new Nokia E71 (w/ Vodafone). I saw yr vid, I turned the mobile upside down and the signal is full! haha funny . . .but also disappointing.

Then I tried to hold it with 2 fingers and not touching the back of the phone, and the signal is much better.

Do I need to go and buy the Batman suit?? Any discount from Nokia please?:)

Seriously, any way to fix the problem apart from holding the phone with only two fingers on the sides?

  • you do know that mobile phone manuals tell you not to hold the phone in a clasped hand?

they suggest you use your fingers to hold it from the bottom, even sony erricson-who get AMAZING signal everywhere, tell you, and it does make a difference.

that's just cause u seem to have fat hands mate

as to upside down-STRAAANGE, although if you really want to complain feel free to become spiderman, i'm sure if you are intelligent enough to post a video moaning about this you can handle DNA

  • I live in So. Cal. and I am getting the same problem. I hate it!. I even lose my

3G signal at times too. Frustrates me.

  • i tried that...and i don't see any problems...

  • OH MY GOD. I thought this issue was because of 3, but you're on Vodafone. I'm getting the exact same issue and it's fing annoying.

  • same here - i thot it was 3 too, never had that issue with my old phone?!! do u know if its fixable??? do u jus hand it bak 2 three?

  • Not sure because the problem is I get piss poor signals in my office at work, but if I go upstairs to someone elses office the signal is fine. So 3 may try and catch me on that, doesn't help that you'll get put through to 1st line support who can't do anything and just read from a script. Signal issues with mobs was on Watchdog on Monday and one guy sued Orange and won as he got no signal ever so didn't believe he should be paying for no signal.

  • dont have that problem... but a problem i do have is trying to save the maps through wifi.... it just wont connect in WIFI for maps. i can browse the net, but not download my friggin maps!!! and the damn phone keeps refreshing... WHAT THE HELL?!

  • Did u try Nokia Map Loader software? Google it

  • My nokia 6500 slide is similar to this. It's not as easy to replicate, but it can have 2 or 3 bars signal, then a few inches of movement and it's gone. Also, when with friends who are on the same network orange uk), their phones always out-perform it, often showing 3 to 4 bars while i have none. How good a phone is at receiving signal should be listed in the specs - if they tell me it's weight down to 1/10th of a gram, but don't take the time to say how good the ariel is!!

  • Mine doesn't have that problem, either. :-)

  • My E71 doesn't seem to have this problem (USA version, on AT&T). Though sometimes it does lose 3G reception for no apparent reason.

  • My phone's the same. It gets me SO annoyed when calls drop when I don't even move. Same SIM on Nokia N73 was fine so it's not a network issue.

  • mine doesn't have this problem

  • omg thats gay...

  • Its because of the way an antena works. For example, people often point their wi-fi antena on their routers up, however the signal from an atena is sent and recieved simularly to a water foutine in this shape: /|\ where the center is the antena. But yer, the signal seems to be a problem, and im about to buy one of these phone tomorrow!

  • Let's see this problem from the bright side!

We all know that the E71 doesn't have accelerator support, now with this behavior somebody can program it to interpret the phone's position that would be awesome! :)

    Just kidding...

On a serious note, my E71 does not have that problem, in fact my E71 has much better reception than all my Windows Mobile and iPhone!...

    Maybe you got a lemmon!

    RayanMX

  • Hahahahaha!

Have the phone-and it's true xD.

Anyway..living in the city-never been without the signal.

But it could be the problem in the some strange woods-i guess...

  • the antenna is on the bottom below the keyboard

  • no..on the bottom below the keyboard is antenna for wifi..
