Actually, its pretty likely that Prince did tell his lawyers to stop any people from broadcasting their versions of his songs. A few years ago he started sueing fan-sites to take down their content... even though they were fans of his. He's very much about business and its one of his sole purposes to protect his music. That's just the way he is. For the good and the bad. I don't agree with it in every case like this one.

I cant speak on all videos on youtube... their are after all millions. A simple search on any news site and you can find mention of the dispute. Also the band "The Used" had their videos completley removed however their tracks are still used in some other videos (they are also under WMG).

Fact is Prince does not own the rights to this song WMG does, a simple search for publishing rights will reveal that.
