I wonder how they get the beltbuckle rash right... is there some dude in the custom shop whos duty it is to constantly rub the guitars over his crotch?
Ok, Relic guitars can be cool - but doesn't this seem crazy at times? I mean wow "look at the belt buckle dents and rust on the bridge". When will guitar pedals be made with authentic shoe scrapes and beer stains?
I saw a Fender Blues Junior relic. The grille cloth was torn and worn out, it had what looked like a urine stain on the side, a ring from a cold beer can on the top, and various stains and dings all around.
love it! but what's with the bit about "...which comes through years of adjusting the saddles..."??
I really like the concept but if the wear isn't in the places where a strat would get damaged, it looks ridiculous and not authentic.
I have an '80's Squier '57 JV (Jap strat) body, which I bought new as a complete guitar (still have the pickups in a box somewhere too) and it's bashed in all the 'right' places and I can tell you stories about each scrape. Buy a new one and wear it out yourself!
I'm sorry... but this is so stupid that they fake the aging of the guitar. There's nothing cool about faking as if your guitar has been played for so many years when in reality it's actually brand new. It reminds me of when people take the bill of a baseball hat and rough it up to make it look like they've worn the hat over time... it's so stupid and pointless. The primary function of a guitar is to help you to create music... don't forget that!
Simulated weathering is something I would never do, I'd rather buy a normal good condition Strat, keep it and let years of constant use do the weathering for me, that way its all genuine, it'll be more like a family member than a guitar and you'll probably have a story behind every bump and scrape. ;)
I have to say that these "vintage" "relic" or what ever are very good! They sound much better than the normal versions ! the sound is more "opened" because of the Relic Finish... Really ! I bought an Fender CS '60 Heavy Relic Strat HSS RW and I love 2800Euro is not sheap but "wow" ! I love it! Ok the finish looks a little bit scary but who can affort the money for a reall relic Strat from the 60?
So you have to play one before you can say anything here ok....
Wow, this is the Hendrix tone cloned. I really think they hit the nail with those pickups, sounds exactly like a late 60's strat. Now if only they could make a real Pre-CBS replica, because even their CS reissues don't sound quite like the real deal.
the vintage noiseless pickups are don't have the classic out of phase noise cancellation you'd expect in the 2/4 switch settings... in fact they are a lot whinier and ugly sounding... but don't get me wrong... the 1/3/5 produce pretty good noiseless sounds, though u still lose some of the awesome tone you'd get out of a typical single coil... such is life though
yeah the sound is that great. I swear my american standard sounds like this. My secret? its all about the hight you set the pickups on the american standard. I thought this was a 60s strat, why is there a 70s bullet truss rod?
still dont understand why u wud pay a premium to have ur brand new guitar smashed up. if u want an old strat, go to a second hand guitar shop, change the wiring and PUs... thats what i did
Yeah it does, American Standards have more modern tpickups, this has more of that vintage quack. As a former owner of an American Standard I can definitely hear the difference. At the Custom shop price level though you are paying for more than sound. Feel, rarity, playability, detail, and you get higher grade materials than the Base level USA instruments. Plus the fact this was built by one man and mostly by hand raises the price too
i've always wondered what the guitar will look like when it has been reliced...reliced, through age and not through craftwork. maybe a piece of shit or maybe quite awesome. guess i'll have to come back in 30 years and find out lol
its made to look as if it was used for many years, they make the neck wore down, add scratches, dents, finishes checking, chips in the paint, and sometimes fret wear.
It kinda sounds like Come On (Part One) by Jimi Hendrix. You can find it on the album 'Electric Ladyland'. Go check it out bro, it's one of the best albums ever created. Peace.
What is with the bullet truss rod? That was notorious in the 70's. I also think they should have not gone with the noiseless pickups. Then again it is a custom shop.
I would love to have that guitar someday but without the ageing and playing wear look, my own strat is in it's teens now but it looks as new as the day I bought it, I play it every other day (alternating with my les paul) but it's well looked after...Anyway Nice guitar demo ;O)
The relic guitar was born out of need. Guitarist's that owned original 60's Fender guitars got to a point where there instruments were to valuable and they didn't want to play them any more. When guys started asking the custom shop to make replicas of their original guitars, Fender saw an opportunity to fill a need.
i heard the relic was born when fender suppiied the rolling stones equipment for a tour . kieth richards looked at the brand new guitars and said - i can't be holding these, you have to bash them up a bit. ?
@ProGuitarShopDemos wow great response I've always wondered why they did that as well I always assumed that people just liked the way they looked end of story, but its interesting to see that there is a deeper meaning to it
what is custom shop mean??
