I will buy this notebook! It's ideal for me - it has virtually all which I need. The only problem - glossy screen. Battery 6 hours. On margin: this guy is metal fan and shows devil sign in 2.45 }:-))) Devilish notebook??
I bought Acer Timeline series notebook for 800$. Lenevo S12 in my country has price 600$.
With Acer i got 13'3 display, equiped with dual-core Intel SU7300 (two times more powerful than atom n330) + ATi HD 4430 512Mb video (%20 faster than ION)
I think that it's better variant than netbook. Whereas Acer Timeline has comparable to netbooks light weight and small size (1,65kg, 322.0mm x 228.0mm x 28.9mm).

S12 is great but its still WEAK for 3D games. Reason why - because poor perfomance of N270 single-core Atom processor! It's need N330 for good perfomance + 6-power battery for long mobile work.
So why its equiped with ION if it's not game playable? HD Video? Not serious reason. You can buy cheap broadcom HD crystal (mini PCI-e accelerator card) and get same result for alsmost any cheap netbook + save the money. CPU in Lenovo S12 is so weak so its great disadvantage too.
Keep in mind man... this nebook designed to play HD videos with ease... not crysis lol its a netbook man i do see your point tho... but its still a netbook with the small ass res not designed to play games !!
To compare this with the 311 I like the wedge shape of the 311 to accommodate the 6 cell battery at the back. I like the Lenovo's keyboard making full use of the space (the 311 one looks like they just took the keyboard from a smaller netbook) and I like the extra buttons at the top, something HP had space to do but didn't. If you look for the video of the 311 and s12 side-by-side you'll see the screen on the 311 is much better.
I'm at a loss. I don't know wether to buy the lenovo s12 or the samsung nc20. I like the samsungs design a bit more but it's more expensive as well so I'm not gonna pay that much more for design only. I need a dscisive factor:P.
I guess my point is, I'm glad I'm not part of a business associated with "laptop" or any other has been term. One has to keep ahead of the curve. BTW. I can't type with my pinky so the wrist watch is not happening until we all have finger attachments. ;)
I think you'll find that at the moment these netbooks are controlled by Intel and Microsoft via a strict set of guidelines with limits/constraints on what they can/cannot be.
This is insane; as we head ever closer to the nano age technology will become smaller and lighter; what you percieve as a laptop and netbook are actually Idiosyncratic.
As there was only ever one, which is a laptop, the distinct differences are only based such as size/weight/features - souly based on technology.
And even then; Laptops are not the origional; it is all the same version of "personal computer" - the size/weight/features are all based on the technology avaliable at the time
As technology is ever advancing soon these petty distinctions will just fold back into the "personal computer".
You'll have a wristband with your PC on it, a holographic keyboard and holographic screen - not that far off from todays technology if you keep up to date with journals.
There is money to be lost by companies. I don't understand how MS or Intel can decide what is what. If the consumer calls it a netbook, no marketing will ever change that.
Forget about specs. Forget about guts of the machine. Netbook isn't about the Atom, or 10.1 inch, or any of that. Netbook means light and small. LIGHT. Netbook is the new portable. If it's big, it's a laptop. If it's in public, it's a netbook. Too bad for laptop interests out there. Must hurt I'm sure.
I know you dont understand; but spend 10 mins looking into it and you'll have a better idea.
I think you need to understand the meaning of Idiosyncratic - because thats what we're dealing with.
Your focusing on size when the fact of the matter is thats dependant on the technology as if you read what i said (again) and try and understand rather than run in circles; you'll see that its all the same derivation of personal computer.
Silly names are given to a change in state of technology.
Is this one of the newer netbooks that can play HD content? Youtube HD vids dont work on previous netbooks (choppy). Nor do HD Hulu vids. Anyone have any idea when this or other nVidia Ion netbooks release?
Already released in France? Hopefully it releases here soon in US. Its hella expensive though; here its gonna be $600! It does have a higher resolution than the S12 and is smaller, at 11.6'' but I dunno if thats better or not. Any reviews on it yet?
Bestimmt wieder mit nem scheiss 3 Zellen Akku wie bei Lenovo typisch. Ausserden 12 Zoll ist kein netbook mehr, lieber ein Samsung NC10 mit Nvidia ion.
i bought my netbook for one reason, ultra portable, as i move around alot i wanted something i could store in a backpack easy to take to work with me and perform basic office needs. and thats what i got out of it. not that i am unhappy with my netbook, in fact i love it, and use it daily - im using it now to right this post... BUT now i find out i could have got one able to handle media much better... some buyers remorse here. no matter im already saving for one of these bad ass netbooks!
Intel Atom 330 dual core+nVidia ION (9400GT M)+1gb DDR3-1066+320GB HDD/160 GB+ 6 cell battery+10" screen+ multitouch trackpad+chocolate keyboard then i would definitly buy it.

HP 311 has Nvdia ION LE, this gpu lacks of full functionality.

yes it is, the FIRST one out in the market... Samsung announced first, but they are taking months to launched

Technically yes, but the screen is too small for true HD content.
But from what I've heard, it should be able to play Youtube stuff smoothly.
