@MountainFox51 Yes, there are differences. As of the latest Alpha build as I have posted this, DarkXL allows for button configuration, although the secondary fire button is stuck on "R", better graphics, a green reticule of your choice of shape, and the ability to use mouse look. No longer will you have to use PgUp and PgDn.
Unfortunately, DarkXL lacks two things that the original has: Super Bullet Shield and Completion symbols beside the level names. Other than that, I prefer DarkXL.
@mario19885 I have, in fact I have a couple videos of it. Besides when this project is done I can see people porting those models to this, since when its completed it will have .md3 support.
i have dark forces, but i cant get the installer to work on my 64 bit windows 7. Any ideas? to play it i use dos box, then again i had to download the full game from the internet. I also tried copying some of the files directly from the DARK CD but it doesnt work either, and XL doesnt seem to work on the downloaded version of the game. help
Assuming this ever actually gets finished, will it support full mouselook? I'd also love to see an option to put crosshairs on the screen and to turn off auto-aim, so that you actually have to have good aim to kill distant targets.
Full Mooselook and Crosshairs have been confirmed. The Crosshairs will be plenty from other Star Wars games, mostly the X-Wing series which are noticable. Autoaim option most likely in the future
Do you have to hold the antlers to use the Mooselook? ;)
Any onscreen crosshairs will do just fine. When I played the game, I actually used a marker to draw a crosshair on a little piece of Saran Wrap and stuck it to my monitor.
I find it annoying that you need pixel shader 2.0 ...surely the reason people revert to playing older games is because they don't have fancy new graphics cards.
This is still in the alpha and the "classic" mode is still in development. However the main goal is to have Dark Forces run on modern systems and Hardware Acceleration. Besides a Graphics Card with Pixel Shader 2.0 are really cheap so I wouldn't complain.
Most modern source ports support pixel shaders but yes you don't need them to run because of course not everyone has a graphics card with pixel shader support.
Hopefully Classic mode will have no need for Pixel Shaders. But of course Lucius is using it to his advantage with the addition of Bloom which is one of the reasons the Extended mode needs Pixel Shader cards. Hopefully you have a motherboard that has either a PCI-e x16 slot or an AGP slot
YEAH I GOT IT WORKING BUT I CANt GET PAST THE 4TH LEVEL(Imperial Weapons Research Facility) IN THE DUCTS I CANT CROUCH SMALL ENUF TO GET INTO THE facility. The keyboard wont let me type in the cheat LABUG to crouch small enuf so im stuck !! any1 get past this ??
ughh looks like level 3 is the last one to work properly . Too many things dont work in level 4 . Oh well its still awsome , this guy did a great job with Darkxl !!
try searching for a 3D accelerator. Though it will be the sprites will be transparent it'll still run. Another work around is to see if your computer can take an agp or pci-e low end graphics card
STOP REBAL SCUM!!!

@MountainFox51 It may not seem much but think everything looking nice and smooth rather than pixelated.

If you want a DF Remake with 3D graphics, Then try playing Dark Forces Mod for Jedi Outcast or Academy.

Fair enough, I will invest in a new card at some point. How is it though that the open GL Doom/duke nukem source ports don't need pixel shaders?
...I do really appreciate what you guys do, don't get me wrong.

You need to be up to date with DirectX (although assuming you have a graphics card with atleast Pixel Shader 2.0 or above) and OpenAL installed

ChrisRedfield1991 2 years ago
did you know theres an extra life in that corner you were looking at at about 3:34? just go behind there and open the door theres a free life
but the drop is to the beginning of the level and it hurts your health so mash esc before you hit the bottom and press next mission.

I know. This was just a demonstration video of the new engine so I didn't get all of the secrets

If I play a more up-to-date version of Dark Forces, will I be able to play it on XP without the hassle of using a DOS emulator?
thanks
AlexFlameSkater 3 years ago
Well DarkXL is a game engine being built from scratch to run Dark Forces on Windows rather than Dos
ChrisRedfield1991 3 years ago
Shame skint flint, mr tight ass Lucas doesn't get a team to convrert the original to windows and release it as freeware!
Loads of great free games about inc. Battle of Endor/Yavin, Smokin Guns etc, but NOTHING from the multi billionaire Lucas.
The guys an idiot!
