All the major religions tho - Christianity, Judaism and Islam all base their religions on the fiction of the one god though. They then each have various laws and rule which if not obeyed then there will be punishment. Firstly they claim their god will do the punishing. But hey will try to punish in the here and now by ostracisim, by ex-communication, by mind games. Of course each religion ideally would like to be in political charge so that it could punish by it;s own draconian religious laws.

But I know people who do steal, who do commit adultery and who do drink alcohol because they know Allah/God is not watching them. I think the people who are Muslims and Christians are controlled by this fake Allah/God. So, one can see why religion was made - to control people. One an see that women are in some ways protected in Islam but in other ways controlled. The real problem is that these Christian and Muslim clerics and politicians actually believe in their fake gods.

The other problem of course is that once people are released from the fear of the fake Allah/God then they go crazy because they then have a void, the void which religion fills. So, without belief in a fake Allah/God (whatever religion they are caught up in) some people will steal, commit adultery and/or drink alcohol. It's not that people are good when they are religious, it's that they are in fear of a fake Allah/God and some retribution. Religion does gives meaning, but a fake meaning.

I think the problem is both because all religions are built on falsehood, and because man can use religion as a mechanismm towards power to fulfil his/her greed. As long as people believe in any religion then they can be manipulated. Yes, and of course people can be manipulated by secular greed too. Personally I can not believe in any religion because I know them to be false.

This belief, if it has any merit at all in the modern day drives regular people (not the leaders) to beat their wifes, treat people with disregard and disrespect and in general close their minds and hearts to others around them. Be it terrorism, honor killings, trying to change laws to echo a religious view of yours to be imposed on all, its all a form of evil known as religion.

Actually, they do. Most of them are Christian here in the US, but I'm sure most Muslims deserve to go to jail for the sexism and homophobia they support.

I'm not sure I'd even wish my worst enemy to go to jail/prison. Have you seen what happens in jails? OK, I've not seen it in jail but I've seen films and have heard about the on-goings in them. See the film, "Shawshank Redemption" for an example (and that was in the early/mid C20) - although a work of fiction I am lead to see this as how things are in a prison/jail. I think it's a crime how those prisons are run (more accurately allowed to be run by malicious prisoners and malicious gaurds).

More people are beinng killed because of greed and materialistic goals.. look at WW1 and WW2... look at the war in Iraq in Afghanistan... All driven by greed by certain groups for the natural resources such as oil and natural gas in these lands... God is the only unifying factor for humanity.. But the real problem is that you will be believing in a God that doesn't exist. Man made religions to control us. They still use religions to control us and keep us in order. Some leaders actually believe in the religions they profess. A lot of the time our leaders do not even believe in the religions they advocate. It's very sad because all religions are fake, but now we are so needy of a religion that we can not live without one nor can we live with one.

Some will believe in god and some will not. The ones who believe in god will be twisted by those beliefs in a false religion, and the ones who do not believe in god will be lost in the very real void of not having a god. But should we believe in a god just to stop feeling the very real void that exists in humanity of not having purpose? Should we instead make up a reason for living - which is called religion? I say not. Humans struggle with the void without religion - and that is a natural.

Alas, without God we live in a void. I live in that void. I can't live with a false religion and so I experience the very meaninglessness of living. Sometimes I wonder if it would be better if I was a believer in one of those false/man-made world religions that advocates some all seeing, all knowing god. But of course I'd be living in delusion. But this void doesn't seem very pleasant to live in either.

Religion is junk food for the soul. It may fill a void but will also fatten up the ego. It is better to achieve true spirituality. That means knowing one's own true nature well. It is not necessary to believe in a god for that. Look into meditation, contemplation and breathing exercises. These will lead to right knowledge without getting mired in religious dogma.

That was in 2003. Today Malaysia has moved further toward an Islamic state. Since I have some in-laws in Penang who are Malaysian Chinese and have been visiting the country since 1999, I've noticed the Islamisation of Malaysia, even at the airport. When travelling in some parts Malaysia are too be careful not too show too much. Foreign women are treated different, but only if they are Caucasian. If you watch old Malaysian movies you can see that wasn't the case. Terrorism is another problem.
