i have a pond of my own, in ground but i think it's nice. it's about 1400 gallons and i have little bitty koi and goldfish in mine. thanks for the advice.
That has a Pondmaster 24 pump 2400 GHP for the skimmer and that goes into the BioTec... then one pump just Pondmaster 18 1800GHP just used like a water fall.
The word was only about $100, liner $70, filter $250, pumps $200. That gives me about 700 gallons that can withstand any weather outside. Regular goldfish if not fancy can get quite large. The more room you give fish the faster they will grow. The pond is quite time-consuming to build.... a couple of days and that's if you have everything laid out in your head correctly. Underground requires a lot more time.
I like the concept, but 4x8x maybe 3 or 4 feet deep...Don't you have incredibly high ammonia levels? We had 30 fish total, 9 are koi and only one of them is mature, and I have a 3300 gallon pond with 2 bio filters going, and we had to do 2 partial water changes this year due to high ammonia. We have since fostered 7 of the non koi and the levels have gone to acceptable levels, but I want KOI only and my wife has agreed to indulge my elitist view.
Sometimes I get a spike in ammonia... that can happen. If I see that I use AMMO LOCK and that shuts down the ammonia instantly. I always use Microbe-Lift for the filters to provide maximum biological filtering. A number of other things like the breakdown of algae, uneaten food and leafs from trees can cause ammonia spikes might not just be the fish. Check pH if it's asked me keep buffering with baking soda... if the pH is too extreme and the ammonia can spike can be quite dangerous.
Waaaaay too many fish for that pond rule is 2 inches of fish per gallon. and with KOI it goes down to 1 inch per gallon that means one full grown koi 20-24 inches per 200 gallons. Your system seems big enough though but it still looks like too many fish unless you're a supplier.
As long as you keep the water a little lower it should work fine for turtles. If you look at one of our other videos we actually build a turtle raft for large pond. We attract a number of Eastern painted turtles and Red Eared Sliders.
I put in city water with "Pond NovAqua+" water conditoner.... I can change more then half the water at one time with no issues ..never loss a fish.... just watch the PH. Most of the time it will be very acid... so a day before the change start adding some baking soda to get the PH up then change the water. City water has a High PH. I never let the water sit with NovAqua to can add it right as you put in the city water works in secs
The biotech is a gravity fed system. It needs to be above above the pond to work. It's highly efficient and rarely needs cleaning (depending on pond conditions).
A lot of filtering is a good thing.... When it gets hot the exchange of oxygen is critical. Running 2 pumps one with Bio Filtering and the other just for waterfall is need incase one fails.
Have not had any problem with the tiles getting dirty underneath. Due to both the strong filtration and the fact that the Koi constantly are patrolling the bottom picking up anything and redistricting it. The only thing I get on the tiles that's annoying is algae.
I have not cleaned the pond in six months. The key is to have a very good filtration system. I have a pondmaster skimmer, and that is connected to a high-speed pump that then goes to a biotech filter before returning back to the pond. The pondmaster you have to clean about every three months during spring and summer... other than that it's self-sufficient maybe I should do a video on the filter system
I talk too much.... it's an instructional video to how to build a pond.... would't make much sense without talking would it? considering it links to many Koi sites I think they like it..... as for your videos.... Can we can use the soundtrack from this to torture Al Qaeda prisoners....? Who is the two girls to left of the band.... dressed like Bargirls? that's the only thing of interest in this video
How deep is the pond? Is 2 1/2 feet deep enough?

Has fresh well or city water -that has been treated ever killed your fish? I was always told to age water or treat it before putting fish in.

Do you NEED to have the biotech 4 elevated or can it be on the ground with a longer hose?
