You have to let the soap cure when using CP.

You have to let the lye turn into soap, and this can take several weeks. If you use it too soon, the soap will be very bad for your skin. The bar also has to try out, and get hard. It's best to let your soap cure for 4-6 weeks.

Great video, I've been researching for over a year on how to make soap via cold process method, and this is one of the best videos I've seen, good work :) I am wondering though, where do you get your lye? I am having an *incredibly* difficult time finding it, other than online... I hate buying things from online so I avoid it as much as possible. I've tried Lowe's, they said they didn't have it? You make it look easy, and it really isn't that difficult - not once you get the steps down - I wonder, do you have a list you look at while working to remind you what to do next? I wish I had a friend who would like to try this with me!

I'm not sure what you mean by "conventional soap." This is the soapmaking method that has been used for centuries. Lye is extremely toxic, but if soap is made correctly, there is no lye in the soap. Please see our video "The Chemistry of Soapmaking" for an explanation. You cannot make soap without lye.

also what do you think about making Soap with Pure 1000% clean Distilled Water instead Purified? i dont want Sodium Fluoride in my Soap.. =/

Distilled or bottled water from a good source are best. Some tap water contains minerals that can do weird things in soap. Usually, these contaminants wind up floating and forming a "skin" at the top of the lye/water mixture, so you'll likely know they are there.

All soap has lye in it. If it doesn't then it's a detergent, which very bad for the skin. The lye "matches up" with the oil used in the recipe and becomes soap. This process is called sopanofication. The soap has to cure for several weeks for all the lye to bond with the oils to become soap. Typically this happens in 4-6 weeks. You can speed this process up by doing what is called Hot Process, which uses heat to speed up the sopanofication process.

I don't reuse mine for cooking because I sell my soap. Some folks have extreme allergies to think such as peanut oil, and I'd hate to have cross contamination. However, if you are only using your soap and food for yourself, a run through the dishwasher should get your items clean enough to use for cooking. Cheers!

The soap turns into a gel and gets darker and may even boil up a little in the center. It all depends on the type of mold you are using and how well you have insulated it. People tend to get really finicky during this stage and start poking around, stirring, temp testing,etc. We think it's best to just leave it alone! =)
