I respect your viewpoint. However, I wonder if it is an internal pathology, an innate mental anxiety that occurs when one simply wants to express a gender that is different than the assigned biological sex, or if it is society's pathology. Perhaps in fact it is society that creates such stigma, hostility and hatred which is at the root of the mental distress that you speak about. Just a bee for your bonnet

Right on. So many girls avoid therapy, not recognizing its intrinsic worth, seeing only the stigma attached to seeing a mental health professional. One friend of mine feels that she shouldn't have to go to therapy to prove that she is trans. There's a certain amount of mistrust that goes with the territory when you live outside of society's understanding.

To prove that she is trans, but to whom? It's such an enormous step in your life that, although there's of course gone a ton of consideration into admitting to yourself that you might be trans, into coming out to the ones you hold close, it can't be bad to look together with a professional, if being trans is really the center of your distress, or if it's something else that's only presenting to you as transgenderism.

Ashley: I remember when I was trying to tell my mom about TS, it was amazing to try to put into words. Yeah, you're right, we TS have to have core happiness and self love AND SRS doesn't change a person's basic mental outlook. If you ain't happy as a Pre-op, you ain't necessarily going to be a happy Post-op. I like your upbeat attitude...it will carry you far.
