Ah, the young(er) Ramey, when his voice could seemingly do anything at all! Glorious, amazing. High, low, legato, declamato, and what a sound. And most basses would be happy just to look that good with their shirts off.

Fra i bassi e' forse, a parer mio, l'unico fuoriclasse della seconda meta' del 20^ Secolo. Qui e' colto all'apice della carriera che avrebbe fatto meglio, pero', a concludere nella 2^ meta' degli Anni 90: ricordo, alcuni anni fa, un inascoltabile Procida in diretta radiofonica dal MET.
