I tried this with an oak dowel that I got from HOMEDEPOT, the threads keep falling apart. what am I doing wrong?

@nostoppingnow Your first problem started when you went to HomeDepot. Try a lumber yard and get hardwood dowels. You might have been getting a different variety of wood rather than oak.
