Once and for all, and trust me, I'm an experienced pool player, whose brother is a 2-time US Open winner, and a world renown hustler.. The "lose some weight" line has nothing to do with handicapping, or "giving a spot".. He's simply needling his opponent, or basically, talking shit.. It's the funniest line in the movie, and you guys are missing it trying to read something in there that isn't there..
Did he lose, or did he win??? He's plays getting hustled, knowing the Tourny in Atlantic City would give him better odds. This is the lesson he was trying to teach Vincent the entire movie. Sometimes when you lose, you really win
@Gggmanlives _yeah, that's right...the hustler gets to be the hustled...goes to show you can't lower your guard, had one too many drinks and black unassuming guy talks him into distraction...and Fast Eddie goes down. Fast Eddie hasn't been in competition for ages...he has to go through this hard blow. It's in the last scene when he says -I'm back!
That's how i see it within the context of the film. I love the scene -what a script!
''I want ti ask you someting, be honest with me. Do you think i need to lose some weight.;; Love that. scene. Didn't know who Forest Whitaker was back then.. We know him now.

I'll be honest, Forrest could drop a few pounds. Seriously, he should. I'm only looking out for him.

@ga7001 The reference to Amos's weight is an allusion to Eddie's first match with Minnesota Fats in The Hustler.

@ttlms No, it isn't 'weight' is literally the skill a pool hustler shows to his opponent. Same as 'speed'

@EMILIOMARENGO Fast Eddie should of changed the game to 8 ball, if you remember Eddie saying "in 9 ball the balls fall funny sometimes"

@Gggmanlives If you care, read a book called 'Between the Rails' it's about pool hustling. It's a pretty tough way to make money IMO.
