Just wanted to point out that its now on sale for $200 this holiday. May be temporary price drop so if you want one, now is the time. Link in the video description. Happy Holidays!
Hey, SONY, Would it have cost THAT much to put an S-Video input on the unit? Every other portable sony dig. recorder (& the entire Hi-8 portable recording unit line) had them. I don't understand why the regular port. DVD recorder and now the blu ray unit do not. One would think that at DOUBLE the price of reg. DVD, this unit would've at LEAST had an S-Video input. I will not be buying it. Thanks for all the great videos, moophoto, keep up the good work!
@LerfaMu1 Thanks. I agree, it seems like they just want to cheapen it out and cut corners. I hope they're listening when they're designing the VBD-MA2...
I am a little confused with all the jargon, it goes on and on and just gets all mixed up in my head. Can you tell me, will I be able to record my video from my Canon 60D HDSLR camera on to Bluray disc? If yes, how about after I have edited my video and saved the movie on my laptop? Can I then add the movies to a Bluray disc to be watched on any other Bluray Disc player? If anyone can please clarify this for me. If this device cannot to what I ask, is there one that can? if yes, Which? Thank you
@yeseverymomentcounts This officially supports Sony HD camcorders primarily when doing a direct from camera to the unit for HD. Since I do not have the 60D, I can't test it out to see if it will do the transfer. However, it does work with the Panasonic GH2. When plugged into your computer via USB2, it works just like a burner. So yes you can burn your HD footage (with the proper software) onto Blu-Ray disc in HD with the proper blu-ray authoring software. I actually go over other options...
@TheDrewsky333 In the video series I show the inputs, and how to select them - this video is merely the unboxing. You need to use the composite video inputs, and it will only record to DVDs (not blu-ray).
@9ALLEN9 I agree. It reminds me of when DVD players were available but almost nobody would allow you to play back mp3 files or other audio files off of a DVD (in a portable player preferably). I can only remember one such device for use in the car that could do it.
Thanks, great review, very useful.

@DBSpy1 They are removing features people aren't using much. Luckily some of Sony's other models have S-VHS.

@sinsagoodmansbrother You're very welcome. If they had HDMI input it would have been a HUGE game changer.

Can you also use that as a Bluray/DVD burner and writer for your computer?

@SonyFan4 yes

It wouldve been perfect if it allowed you to burn your standard definition footage to Blu-ray for archive too :-/
