What Teddy Atlas calls "his" system was actually devised by his mentor Cus D'Amato around 50 years ago. Cus developed the number system of punching by drawing numbers 1 through 8 on a matress wrapped around a beam and was named "the Willie" after boxer Willie Pastrano. In the same fashion, there was a tape of Cus calling out numbers and his fighters would throw the corresponding punches. Interesting that Teddy's bag doesn't include the number 8 which corresponded to a jab to the body.
