To me, Mrs. White comes across more as someone who has a mental illness. Like something very traumatic happened in her childhood. I wouldn't put it against Stephen to add that tibit to the character, since he writes horror in psychological fashions, especially when it comes down to the mental balance of the more "shades of grey" characters in his novels. Margaret having a mental illness makes Carrie's situation all the more interesting and pitiful at the same time. Piper [actress for Margaret] did an awesome job.

Another version of Carrie is on the way. The news was released like a few hours ago. They say it's more of a re-adaptation of the book rather than a remake and the screenplay writer has written for the comic book adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand. So I'm not saying that it'll be great, but it'll be interesting to see when it comes out.

Sissey Spacek did an outstanding job as Carrie, very believable. In fact,  most everyone in the movie came off as realistic. This movie is timeless, we will be watching it 30 years from now. Quality thriller.

In the book, it explains it in a little bit more detail.  Carrie's Mom thinks that all women (including herself) are evil. She believes that you only get your period if you sin. She also believes that ALL sex, even in marriage, is evil, and that the only way children should come into the world is by immaculate conception.

That whole scene was amazing tho. The close focus on Tommy's face with Carrie unfocused in the background...him and that giddy smile. Then the expression change when he genuinely gets pissed on behalf of Carrie when the teacher goes off on his little cuntraid. And then the back to the smirky smile and snickering. I always imagine DePalma trying to set an unnerving tone with things like that in the film to put it in your mind that noone can truly be trusted in their intentions (towards Carrie)
