  • It sure was an Honor Pre Com Crew the best....

  • It would be an honor to serve on a ship named after Admiral O'Kane.

  • I stayed in the Adhari Inn, Manama, Bahrain for this years GP. USS O'Kane had definitely visited that bar!

  • 22 yrs in and this ship still can't be touched.

That says alot for these babies of the fleet.

    What a ship!

  • @materialclassified Burk class.....commissioned 1999, where do you get 22years from?

  • @SuperAncientmariner ..I'm always projecting future history. ;)

From Wikipedia: The first ship was commissioned on 4 July 1991.

  • @materialclassified Oh, right...I don't use Wiki myself, too inaccurate, but I just had a look from interest and the page I got says that this ship was launched in 1998 and commisioned 1999..........point about wiki proven it would seem. :o)

  • @SuperAncientmariner True enough! I tip my hat to you, sir.

We can agree that these ships when used in the service of right, bring peace.

  • I just to say:Oh, She is awesome!

  • go o'kane...its my last name!!!

  • lolololol O'Kane is my last name. no joke

  • Richard O'Kane was probably the best sub skipper in WWII. Several books about him and his exploits are available.

  • Damm im British but i would love to serve on a Fletcher Class DD

  • The O'kane is an Arleigh Burke.

  • Respect to a ship that can shoot satellites out of orbit.

  • I served on this ship, even have my name hidden on #3 swithboard......and have seen things happen on this boat that would jenna jamison go %#@$%@#$%!

  • I was on the coed ship in the 80s, and I don't understand why they want to bring women onboard.

Lots of jealousy, sexual politics, and bs went on onboard my ship.

I got out before the integration of women went navywide...

  • Stealthy ships are cool!

  • She's definitely an impressive ship. I wanted to serve on Destroyers, unfortunately, I'm diabetic, so they sent me home while I was still in boot camp. The sattellite shootdown by the Lake Eerie must have certainly drawn interest from our old pals Russia and China.

  • I was on the Thorn DD988. SHe's a reef now :(

  • A beautiful ship. Not one I'd want mad at me.

  • I hope they keep these destroyers around in the fleet longer than they did the spruance's. Great looking ship!

  • well they only keep for 30-40 yrs

also they already planning the next Destroyers

we got to stay ahead lol

look up the Zumwalt class destroyer :)

  • This class with upgrades of course is slated to be in service for projected 40 years or so. the last Arleigh Burke class is to be completed in 2010

  • it's not a matter of choice, the spruance ships' hull lives were up, it would require a very expensive rebuild to have kept them

  • Agree, but I couldn't help but notice that the Ticonderoga class cruisers and the spruance's hulls were exactly the same, and built at the same place in Pascagoula, Miss.

  • That was a cost saving measure, they origanally wanted the Tico's to be nuclear powered but to save money they went with the spruence drivetrain also.

  • I was on the USS Cushing. It got decomissioned in Seo of 06. I wish I was on one of these new ones.

  • Yes I remember the Cushing, she was the last Spruance to be decomissioned. Sorry to see her go. I got part of the decom ceremony on video when it made the Navy news.

  • im part of the o'kane family, go o'kane!

  • O'Kane and the crews of the Wahoo and Tang are real American Heroes.

  • great looking ship
