They had to go in to the past with phase disorter as robots because it would kill them if they tried it in human form so they got their brains and spirits and put
Giygas took the face of Ness as a form of attack. If you attack Giygas, he himself will not be harmed, but whomever's face he depicts will receive the damage instead, along with the ability to use the same attacks those people can do as well.

when I played that was the first cast I did with paula and it blocked every Rockin that came from giygas.
