I wanted to thank you for your work on the Axe is Back Project, you have really gotten me interested in axes as a bushcraft tool. I am currently rehabilitating a badly rusted axe head I found in the garage. I hope to return it to service so it can be a part of my bushcraft kit. Perhaps one day our paths will cross in the amazing Adirondacks!
Ya got me collecting axes now. I Bought 2 new, and have 1 rehab. I'm excited to find more heads to rehab and hang myself...good, healthy hobby and it can be inexpensive and very rewarding.
God! I wish I had someone, anyone who would go and do this stuff with me. Going alone every time gets old. Fast! I am the only one in my circle who likes this stuff. Actually I love this stuff!!! Keep it up guys. Once I get my camera I'll be posting a "The Axe is Back" vid with A BACON STRIPS!!!
I have that same perculator. I made a hooked tool out of metal to grab that pouring ring and control the pot when hot. You could do the same thing with a pair of conveniently branched sticks I suppose.
Your True Temper is is just a slightly different head pattern than the one I recently restored but it looks like an equally mean chopper. Next up is to handle a Kelly double bit with the same pattern as your GB.
Great to see really nice cutting tools doing there job and do it well, but can you or your friend who I believe to be a cutler why Americans chop wood by hitting your knife through why not just burn it or use the axe so many people do this as a test of a blade but the knives you both had are dam beautiful why risk the damage if you have a axe, thanks from an admiring Welsh man in UK.
@Skog Kniv are the Adventure Sworn woodlore blades an exact copy of the Ray Mears woodlore blade? The ones I have seen on Rays website and in his videos seem to have a completely straight cutting edge while the cutting edge of Adventure Sworns seem to be curved.
@RWW124 There are several actual versions of the Woodlore. The ones Alan Wood does, the one Wilkinson Sword made, and now SWC Knives. The one I have is based off of the Instructors profile that Ray carries.
@jarlove A cleaving axe? They are all chopping axes technically. The Jersey is a felling axe. It also needs some more edge work, which I addressed near the end of the video. Watch it all the way through.
@SkogKniv Sorry, ment splitting axe.... some axes are better for splitting, and some are better for chopping... yes i saw that you adressed it in the end of the video, i was just woundering if your axe head had to wide an angle in the metall behind the edge.. this makes it a splitting axe...?
Thanks. Looking foward to seeing the Jersey perform after the reprofiling. You and AS are artists and craftsman in every way, a real credit to the bushcraft community. The Adirondacks are an ideal place to showcase that hardware!
Leif my friend, that was a fantastic video!!I love the ax action. How often do folks try to buy your knife? That is the sweetest looking knife that I have ever seen! It is a work of art. I hope to get out your way some time and meet you. I do most of my hiking/bushcrafting south of Dansville, NY. God bless. John
Leif, i know you make videos for a hobby, but your cinematography is insanely good! Has the snow hit up in N NY yet bud? Really, really enjoyed that! :)
Awesome video, great axes, noticed the Jersey wasn't biting quite as well. What kind of video camera are you using? Are those stills from the video or camera shots?
Darn it Skog. You and your bud AS - nice video there. My jealousy runs wild seeing you two in the woods, chopping away, havin a blast, downin muffins and bacon while sippin some coffee. Excellent vid as always. Both axes looked awesome. I did notice, as you later mentioned, didnt look like the jersey bit as well as the GB. I like what you did to reprofile it. I took my jersey back even a little farther, and with the weight in the poll it cuts like a razor. Great video.
@TheOperator1975 Glad you enjoy the video man! Yeah I certainly improved the profile on the jersey, I think I might thin it out just a hair more though, probably like your already is. Thanks man!
Another great vid man. I love the "Daks" I never seem to get as much of an opportunity to get to there as I used to. Since "The Axe is Back Project" is still under way I'll just have to do a VR to show you the axe that started my journey and also a current project that I'm working on. thanks again for the vids.
Autumn is amazing...When its raining or when its sunny....Specially in the countryside..From Sept-early November there are an endless array of colors...The smells are actually my favorite part...It smells like the earth, smoke, and leaves..Its near impossible to truly describe what fall feels like..It needs to be experienced...
@leopert22 Autumn in Scandinavia is one of the best time of the year, its cool but fresh. quite windy in most areas. but the smell and colors of the fallen leaves is fantastic! the woods turn to a completely different color. Brown, red and yellow now dominate the landscapes. Indoors we also find a change in season regarding food. the apples and nuts are the highpoint now. among many ingredients. and the food now starts to get "warm". less salads. but more warm cozy food. stews and such.

that double bit axe really cuts well,
what kind of angle does the bevel have compared to the jersey one? it seems to be a lot more efective and lighter
spr00sem00se 3 months ago
@spr00sem00se Its a thin grind on the double bit, perhaps even a little too thin. I addressed the Jersey grind in the video. Watch until the end.
