I'll be singing this in the spring for my Senior Showcase at school. My favorite song from N2N. Beautifully uplifting, wonderful melody, and, of course, that GLORIOUS crescendo at 0:45. UGHHH, SOOOOO POWERFUL.
@Astrofootballer Fun fact - the Goodmans were originally the Browns! I like Goodman a lot better, but maybe I'm just used to it. B'yeah, in the video description it should be Goodman.
@dievampyre cool, you learn something new everyday :). did Henry ever have a second name? because I've got the script but it only calls him Henry, just curious
Fantastic song from an all-time great musical, deserving of its Pulitzer Prize and every award there is. An even better version is from the workshop when it was called Feeling Electric, sung by Norbert Leo Butz. Longer, different lyrics, amazing.
My son sang this for a HS 'Broadway Night". At the time, my mother was dying of Alzheimer's. His emotion showed & the entire audience was crying right along with him... It is such an emotional song!
My son sang this for a HS 'Broadway Night". At the time, my mother was dying of Alzheimer's. His emotion showed & the entire audience was crying right along with him... It is such a powerful song!
I cannot wait to see this when it comes to seattle next month, and I get to see it twice! I've been dying to see this ever since I saw the amazing performance they gave at the Tonys
98 likes and 1 dislike....a total of 99 people have cared enough to comment and only 48,000 (ish) people have seen this...just proves that nobody cares for classical nature today :/ disapointing.
@NobodysAngel1324 a lot of those thousands of views are probably people (like, for example, me) who just love listening to it. over. and over. and over. it's just such a great song!
i totally relate to this song. im not gonna spill my lifes story on youtube but this song brings me to tears...it totally describes everything that i feel.
i just think hed be able to play this part great. it would be tough for anyone to surpass j robert spencers portrayal but i think hed be able to do the role justice
@sflan93 Okay, maybe he is. :) See, I can only ever think of him as playing Roger, in the final cast of RENT so I have this image of him as like a young, hip rock star. Haha.
@stacetheace7 and he seemed so nice when we saw him backstage.. someone was telling us that nobody else was coming out so we left then he came out to leave but he stayed to take pictures and stuff!
I understand that of course people are curious, but nobody should give away the show's secrets. It would diminish this amazing amazing show for those yet to see it. This is an all-time great, see it if you can.
@MrRibs17 it's so true, too. for anyone who has ever seen a friend suffer from mental illness, be hospitalized for depression, and taken away in an ambulance from a suicide attempt. It takes so much of you with them.
diana is dans wife and nat is their daughter and then gabe is their son but he died before nat was born but diana is meantal ill and still thinks he is around and the show is to try and get her back in her right mind.
That transition is totally amazing! I'll bet it isn't the easiest to sing, he nails it. The show is amazing and is one of the many reasons I wish I lived closer to NYC.
How the hell did WICKED get into this topic? This is N2N...WICKED is WICKED, both are amazing, both have different messages, both are serious shows with comedy sprinkled in...do we really need to discuss it? If you want to talk about WICKED go to a WICKED vid.
in part I agree with you, but comments are (in my opinion) for discussion and comparison, and (though it isn't at that stage now) this wicked thing began by comparing N2N to wicked.....so "MvyMkr" isn't really out of line
I really like Wicked, but it's a different KIND of show than this. You can tell that just by the songs and the style in them. Both are good in different ways, and both enjoyable. This musical, however, is more real, relatable.. In short- normal. That's why it envokes SO much emotion in people. Because this actually happens.
TOTALLY disagree! It's fluffy if you decide that's what you want it to be, but look deeper it's incredibly politically charged. Corruption/dictatorship/discrimination/racism, even the nature of good and evil!
It's also got social exploration similar to the work of Renee Girard (Read "The Wicked Truth")
Not to mention he ending is not at all happy!!!
So yeah it's fluffy if you look at the pretty lights and the fact she doesn't die...but look deeper and it's lifechanging and heartwrenching!
If you pick out the flaws in the book and writing, you will see that there have been much better shows compared to Wicked that haven't even had a long run.
have falen completely for N2N but this song has the strongest pull on me...just the lyrics alone, and then Bobby singing it. Its up league with Wicked, Spring Awakening and new and ground breaking musicals like that
ive been here for the show every high every low...
The politics of it are deeper than you think, and the social message also, read "The Wicked Truth"
You honestly have no idea how deep it is. It's not at all what peopl say. If it had a lower budget, like say Next to Normal, and it was stripped down - I guarantee the critics would have had a different view of Wicked.
Instead, the so called "musical professionals" just got all googley eyed at the lights...it's so much more than that!
*sigh* I love it. N2N, along with Hair, have been my obsessions recently. I'm trying not to listen to all the songs but I heard apart of "I've Been" and fell in love with it.
J. Robert Spencer is amazing. And Aaron Tveit is just awesome. Love Dan and Gabe in the show.

Though I could've lived with a 5-Way tie between him, the Billys and Gavin Creel. Yeah.
