when you have a wife, kids and dogs and property in North Florida, these things are shot on site. They are not in limited numbers here and are becoming a problem. Cottonmouths here are even worse, they are everywhere
Just how stupid are these people? - I supposed it chased them all the way home in its frenzied vicious attempts to bite and kill them. Give these magnificent animals the respect they deserve and stop villifying snakes
I hate to admit it but had to shoot one a last month.I almost step on it when it warned me , i froze trying to spot the head in the grass but couldnt see it.It was literally less than 2 feet from me and not having the option to ease out of its way , i shot several rounds into the mass of coils at my feet and jumped out of there .It was almost 5ft long and pretty thick .Had I spotted it in time i would've avoided the whole encounter. Thats the first snake i ever had to kill , hopefully the last.
Florida will be uninhabitable in 20 years due to the spread of the bacteria Tularemia which is spread through the growing rodent population and is depositted on the ground. But, snakes control 90% of the rodent population except Floridians kill the snakes and now the rodent population has climbed to an uncontrolled rate. So, soon there will be 9X as many rodents as present and Florida will be hot, humid, and disease ridden. A bacteria ovenAnd you think real estate in florida is cheap now?
Perhaps the whole Planet will become uninhabitable in the future for many reasons..Im Floridian and I don't kill snakes. There are more snakes/reptiles here then other places i've been in the eastern US. I see a few snakes a month and a variety of types..Florida also has non resident reptiles breeding in the wild Iguanas, Pythons and Nile monitors..Actually the hotter and humid it becomes; the more active the snakes become as cold blooded reptiles need heat to thrive.
I have come across big rattlers like this before. You guys handled it pretty well. The rattling noise they make is effective...it makes you keep your distance!
Obviously no ones afraid of the snake at all....Just its Bite and death in the middle of nowhere ...We were many miles on foot in the back country....A bite would have been fatal...Its better to be a live Chicken then a dead Rat....Ive seen snake experts and handlers get bitten. Im just a hiker; so were staying away from wild poisonous snakes...Needless to say I was very close to the snake before the filming . I almost stepped on it which was closer then the 1/3 rule.

A rattlesnake can only strike 1/3 the length of it's body, and they do not chase people. You chickens.
