Alan Spalding did a really great job with the sets on this one. The exterior is sort of steam punk, while the interior of the prince's chamber is more gothic. He was the one who made the faun's cozy home as well. Take a look at his own web site for stills -- they are really nice (I didn't know about the guy myself until I watched The Silver Chair)
Shouldn't the Green Lady act more lovely than that? She acts like the White Witch! I know it's the same actress but the character is different (according to the book).
Os terrícolas não são nem um pouco parecidos com os do livro....e a bruxa entra com calma e não assustada...e a cadeira não quebra por inteiro..é só umas lascas que saem dela..... :(
@Galutron I think they figured they had to use the mask so you wouldn't recognize him as Rillian (as we saw him earlier in the series). It's supposed to keep his true identity a surprise. (But yes, it is ugly :)
I like this much better than the Disney version. I do like Disney movies... but not when they make movies of my favourite books and make them.. NOT LIKE THE BOOK. I mean, Susan and Caspian!? That doesn't even make sense.
I encourage everyone to read the book...once you discover the true meaning behind the metaphorical plot, it will bring you to tears. :D :D :D Beautiful truth.
Christianity and magic does not mix. They are two seperate things. For one, Jesus is not a lion. Two, Aslan created Narnia like a god. I'm not christian or athiest I'm just saying my point of view.
Yeah, always wondered about that... I've always assumed it was either his bewitched personality momentarily taking over again, or that he was so desperate to be freed that he wasn't thinking his actions through properly
Well in the book, he did make increasingly violent threats against them. I guess he saw the three of them as his last chance to escape and he was so desperate to be free he was almost dangerous.
Fragile thing that helmet, eh? lol You know, I always wondered if it was significant in the story that it is not Jill or Eustace that free the Prince but Puddleglum who does it. The main theme of the book is faith and Puddleglum seems to be the only one out of them to have any faith in Aslan and the signs. Plus, who's the one who breaks the Queen's spell and denounces her claims that Narnia and Aslan are not real? It's Puddleglum! Interesting, huh?
That is an interesting point. I hadn't really thought about it before, but it really does seem important. I suppose he has a deeper connection to Narnia (and therefore to Aslan) than the children do.
I'm just wondering, on Earth, the Earth the children come from, do they have Christianity, or is it some sort of parallel world? lol
I believe the Earth the kids come from is reality, our earth, so yes, Christianity does exist. I think it was in this book where Aslan says you will learn to know me by a different name in your world (Aslan = Jesus Christ) so Christianity does indeed exist. I like those subtle little allusions like that, don't you? ;)
this is my favorite part too. i really hope they make brand new films of all the books espicially horse and his boy. but not w/ bbc, the quality and everything else isn't that good.
They always Hollywoodify all movies these days sadly. There were many things in the Disney version of LWW that felt VERY "un-Narnian" like and especially un-Lewis like and at times even Americanized. Just... wrong!
I will say, though, that Lucy in the new movie is sweeter, Edmund has fallen further and thus risen higher, Susan's eventual fall in book 7 is better foreshadowed, and Peter is braver and kinglier. I love, LOVE the waterfall scence where Peter stabs the ice.
@NightmareDolly Yes, I LOVE the fact that Susan's fall is foreshadowed really well. Even in the 3rd movie they hint at it and she's technically not even a character in VDT.
How is it americanized? The movie is waaay better than this big dissapointment. Whenever I heard Aslan's voice on the BBC version I was out of patience because He talked so slooow. Then the movie came and it is 1000000000000 times greater than this not to mention the guys are more hotter.
i know just disney have dropped out VDT AND SC are definately being made and if they can find someone to work with them then they will make ALL the films
well they've already (chronicle wise) missed out magicians nephew and horse and his boy, so not sure if they will do anything beyond those four. the other three don't really lend themselves to filming sadly...
perhaps last battle could be made, but not a happy book as such...
I agree. The only criticism I have of the BBC version is they screwed up the children's ages. Other than that, they were true to the story line. I would've liked to have seen BBC do "The Magician's Nephew".
I thought Rilian is supposed to be in a frenzy and screaming and foaming at the mouth while he's in the chair. That's what happens in the book. This wasn't as dramatic as it could've been...although it was sadder...an interesting interpretation.
Prince Rilian is so handsome

YouTube wouldn't let me post the URL for Alan Spalding's web site (spam filter, probably). Use this adress for the set designer's portfolio:

The Silver Chair doesn't appear all that much in this story for it to be the title. I thought the same thing about the Goblet of Fire as well.

It think is faith. Time and time again our three friends had to have faith that everything that Aslan told them was going to work out at the end.
