I wudda died for this when I was 8 years old, now I really want this. These were THE songs of your life if you were young, Puerto Rican and lived anywhere in NY in the 80's. I can smell the coffee and Hair Food now...
Specifically, Freestyle's true roots are traced back to Soul Sonic Force's "Planet Rock" (1982) and Shannon's "Let the Music Play", which debuted in 1983. It was also influenced by sampling, as found in hip hop music. Freestyle reached its peak in the early 1990s before it began to fall in popularity and was slowly replaced by burgeoning house music.

my god how can you people listen to this? all the songs sound the same and the 80's/early 90's production is really bad sounding in my opinion. why is this called freestyle too? it doesn't sound spur of the moment to me
Its good to see people as yourself taking time out to write against the music we love! It just shows that FreeStyle has alot of critisism against! Which is great because anything that is of good material gets hate once in a while! Look at how many people love FreeStyle, a genre that supposedly died in the 90's is still strong with new productions every now and then! And its the love that people have for FreeStyle thats keeping it alive, without support from the mainstream!
Freestyle or Latin Freestyle, also called Latin Hip Hop in its early years, is a form of electronic music which emerged in the early 1980s and declined around the early 1990s.
The music first developed primarily in New York City and Miami in the early 1980s. Initially, it was a fusion of the vocal styles found in 1970s disco music with the syncopated, synthetic instrumentation of 1980s electro, as favored by fans of breakdancing.
Great music, even here, in Romania ... even I didn't know it was called freestyle, 20years ago ... I used to listen to top 100 on the radio, we listen and recorded music on big audio systems (magneto-phones, u know .... ) love this music. Now, we have house music, but it's not the same ...
I loved it! I'm a huge freestyle music fan and I also cover freestyle music..Check out my video's and hope you can subscribe right back..I loved you r mix so I subbed..FREESTYLE MUSIC FOR LIFE..Holla Pala 24 Chicago IL
god what i wouldnt do to be back in the 80s. such an awesome decade growing up and listening to freestyle on my sister's radio while she was fringing her hair up with aquanet in the bathroom.
Missing a couple great artists,Denise Lopez,Safire,Cyhntia,Trinere,Will to power then you have a priceless possesion in your hands(But still a great compilation regardless)
yes indeed,i got this album but i feel it was missing a couple of great tracks to make it complete, like safire's let me be the one, denise lopez's saying sorry dont make it right, trinere's they're playing our song but otherwise a very solid compilation to add to your freestyle collection
Because you have opened this... you will get kissed on the nearest possible Friday by the love of your life... if you don't break the chain. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However, if you don't send this to at least 10 people by the stroke of midnight tonight you will be forever cursed in love. Just copy and paste this.. Lolz
OMG...When i was in Prison, we kept on seeing this comercial, and i loved it!!, now i can watch all the Freestyle videos i want on youtube and yahoo ;p thank god. Prison really sucked. i love these vidoes
Not really. Nowaday They do come out with great song but not to all. I still have some of my old cd I bought in 2000 in freestyle and I listen to them over and over again. But on the other hand I like heavy metal, hard rock, and anything remix sound good to me as well. From time to time freestyle the best for me.
I don't think freestyle means improv in this case. It's still a great mystery why it's called Freestyle music, but it's still good music. In Europe, they have a dance music genre called Hi NRG.
