  • What an angelic voice. She really put her soul into it.

  • @darkmagus64 For sure , as she does with any song she sings.

  • What a great rendition of the old New Orleans whorehouse song....the Animals did it nicely, too, but not like the Weavers.

  • What a beautiful version of a great song.

    Saskia

  • Joan Baez sings the original lyrics.

  • @SilverDoe6 Actually, since it's a folk song the origins aren't known. The earliest known record of it is from around 1930.

  • (according to my mom) she's seen me before when I was a baby. she's so good!!!!! :)

  • If you put it on fullscream and look at the photo at the end she rises lol

  • What a voice and the accompaniment is

  • The song as it's meant to be sung

  • Thank you, UselessLass, I totally agree. C.

  • I've missed this. It's been years. Where did you get this?

  • Luckily, Uselesslass, I save everything. I picked this up in the 50's from a large album called "Folk Song and Minstralsy" that was put out by the "Book of the Month Club". Has some amazing stuff on it. Bless vinyl, can't be beat. C.

  • That's where I heard it! My dad has that set and I grew up listening to it. I am so excited!

  • Well, UselessLass, I must say your dad is a man of excellent taste, like his daughter. I just uploaded her singing "Spanish is a Loving Tongue" from the same album. Will send it to you.

  • I look forward to it - I made a huge mistake of auctioning off the recordings I had back from that era. Always loved her big voice and the Weavers.

  • First version I heard of this song - it WASrecorded in about 1960 or so at a Folk Festival. She also recorded "Spanish is a Loving Tongue"

  • The first I ever heard was either Big Bill Bronzie or Hudie Ledbetter; think it was in the 50's. I think hers is the best. I also have Spanish is a Loving Tongue. Hope to upload it later. Thanks for the comment.

  • Thank you, operacaity...she is one of my forever favorites. Such a pure, sweet voice. I love the Weavers, too, and am digging for some more. C.

  • Gee, Claudia. I never was aware Ronnie did this cheery number. This daguerrotype image brings to mind a Ruth Etting pose (or "Love Me Or Leave" Doris Day promo). I can hear the response..."What's he talking about "? See my "Out In The Cold Again" (musical(?) video to make sense of the preceding. This version is much superior to The Animals' 1966 offering. I downloaded this for safekeeping,,,hope you didn't mind. Ronnie, Ronnie...things can't be that dismal! Cordially, Euphoric John
