for reliability on this gun i give it 100% ive put 1500 rounds through it without cleaning it,and there has been no failure to feed, eject or missfires, great gun,and for the price you really cant beat it
@SCSpictures since you seem to be an actual owner of a hi point firearm..is there anyway to use a different magazine instead of the company mag? im asking because im thinking about getting either the 9mm or .40cal carbine rifle.
carbine is actually pronounced car-bean. and while it doesnt have the punch of a 45, the 9mm is nothing to sneeze at. especially if you use something better than ball ammo. in addition, you get extra velocity from a pistol round with the carbine barrel. 15 rnds in a hi point is better than 50 rnds of 22 in an extended mag ruger 10/22 or something similar. also 9mm is the most affordable and available centerfire pistol ammo. so it actually has more going for it than people may think.
Nice review...I own this gun in the 45 and I plan on getting one in the 9mm also and I have shot hundreds of rounds with no failure and never heard of anyone having any problems with them before..loos like you got a bad one
@untouched48 yeahhhhh they do. I mean the iron sights usually need to be taken off, to make room for the red dot. I had to take my irons off before i could install the red dot.
At 5:04 just use your middle finger of your right hand to reach through and hit the mag release. To me that's the easiest way to release a mag while still keeping both hands where they're supposed to be.
I've seen people cut that plastic "arm" from between the grip and the stock without effecting the integrity of the stock. Also, the carbine WILL accept +P ammunition, if you want to use it for home defense.
Good for you for doing it right and starting your review with a safety check! This after market stock does make it look like the Baretta CSX(?). Good comments about the mags having some jamming issues and about the Pro-Mags. The single stack magazine design is a let down. My understanding is that the receivers are an alloy and not steal. Others have stated their reliability experiences have been good. I have never used a HP so I have no personal experience.
I've had my 9mm carbine for almost 5 yrs and have run well over 6000 rounds thru it with only 1 jam, which was caused by a under charged handload. I have only2 complaints about the rifle and they are 1) no recoil buffer and 2) extra mags are hard to get. I own an assortment of rifles and handguns in various calibers and this is my dedicated house gun (home protection weapon). It is a super reliable and accurate rifle.
i have a theory that i would like to share. the uglier the gun the deadlier it gets, cuz if a guns is ugly you clearly see that the engineer who builted it did not care for the lookst of it rather then it's porpuse... thus making a efficient gun it only has one porpuse, to fire bullets with efficiency.
finally a good honest review...gotta hate the haters of inexpensive weapons! I would like to think that most people that are interested in less expensive weapons arent looking to kill someone anyway so the whole argument of "i wouldn't trust my life with it" is kinda old.
The ghost site is the best, plus it is very accurate. I think, the original look 4 the carbine is the best look; not the added stuff. Yes there are flaws w/ the mag, but, you can modify the clips. Great gun.
Well the Hi-Point is the most affordable and yes it is not the most reliable, i would say it is 95%.
The Beretta Cx4 Storm is probably the best but it is not cheep it will put you back about $600-$800.
And There is the Kel-Tec Model SUB-2000 which takes Glock mags which i like, and it also folds over and that is cool i guess, but i really cant say anything about its reliability because i just don't know all that much about it, It is affordable though about $300.
I had the kel-tec and the Hi point both are about the same on reliablity kel-tec maybe a little more reliable. Glock mags were a selling point for me.
I want a 9mm rifle cause that is the most common ammo in my country(South Carolina). There may come a time when 9mm is the only ammo I can get. When I say affordable I dont mean the cheapest thing around. I alread have an excellent pistol.
@803honda: the most common ammo in the "country" of south carolina (ha) is the same as the most common ammunition across the entire united states: the .22LR.

@803honda ive put over 1000 rounds thru mine so no, you're wrong lol i have 3 friends and they all own 1 or more hi-points. no jams except 1 but his had a defective clip so i wouldnt really blame the firearm.

@untouched48 How? Your red dot will come with rails. Use an allen key to unscrew current sights, slide on red dot, tighten, then zero in.

How a "gun", or actually weapon looks is totally beside the point or application. Get a nickel plated .38 for your required looks.

AUGRE12345 2 years ago 2
@AUGRE12345 Promag makes a 15rd. mag for the ati stocked 9mm carbine. They won't work with the regular stock or the new hipoint tactical stock.

Hi-Point makes the worst most unreliable pistols you can buy.
I am looking for a good affordable and reliable 9mm rifle. what would you suggest?

@aramaki23 One question how reliabe would this gun be in a colorado high school library?
1SH0T2K1LLS 1 month ago
@1SH0T2K1LLS If you shoot yourself in the head first, it's 100% reliable.
metalhead2508 3 weeks ago
@803honda: with guns, you get what you pay for. about 90% of the time, if a gun is "affordable", odds are it isn't reliable.
as for what i'd suggest: don't buy a 9mm rifle. if you want a rifle, get a rifle caliber, and if you want a pistol, buy a pistol.
