Hey Trick, can you tell me how you get the the sound at the start? and if you could recommend a book, or somewhere I could find accurate info on Jimmie's set up. Thank's.
@TheF86Sabre You mean the wah during the intro? I'm just using a Dunlop Crybaby, one of the cheaper ones. I don't know of a really good source on Jimmy's set-up (he keeps that sort of thing fairly close to the vest), but for the first Zeppelin album, he used a Tele through a Supro amp with a single 12-inch speaker (a practice amp by today's standards), probably with a ToneBender pedal. The minimal set-up speaks to Jimmy's skills as a producer.
@privettricker Thanks , so it's the cry baby I'm missing. I just picked up a Williams tone bender MK2. I seem to get jimmys sola sound near on with it I'm quite happy with it. He was a master there is no doubt about it. They have been my life's music since I was 10, I never get tired of hearing The Zep ! every time I hear something new, it's amazing because I have heard each song about a million times....
@TheF86Sabre One trick Jimmy did occasionally was to press the wah all the way down and leave it there for a solo. He did that for Communication Breakdown and Whole Lotta Love. Gives a great biting tone. But the amps and pedals are only part of the equation. He was a master of microphone placement.
@privettricker he always did that with the wah when he played live. i was trying to nail his live tone for ages, then i realised if the wah was down it gets that trebly bite that pagey had :)
@privettricker I finally picked up the wah, the same version you have I think. It is amazing, now that I have it I here it all over the place. I couldn't pick up the sound before, I sure can now. Thanks PT.
Gawd, you've got a Fender Paisley-too cool-is that the real thing or a reissue? What year is it? Original pickups? Sound like they could be seymour duncans? G-r-e-a-t sound...mmph...I envy you.
Funny ! You do have every Zepplin book except " Whole lotta Zepplin" written by my buddy Jon Bream from the Mpls Star Tribune. Look for it at your local bookstore. He just wrote one last year on Neil Diamond who is finally after all these years gonna be inducted in to the "rock n' roll hall of fame ! Rock on Prive !!!
@privettricker How many books about Zep do you have!? I'm guessing they're your favorite band right? They're definitely my favorite band. (although I only have the illustrated biography about them) :P
Holy wow, you got whole lotta stuff from Led Zeppelin. I'd sell my soul for all of that. The only book i have about Led Zeppelin you don't haha (at least you didn't showed it or i didn't saw it) It's entitled "Led Zeppelin: When Giants Walked the Earth", by Mick Wall. You should look it up, it's really interesting.
@MrLino I have that one, but I'm not a fan of Mick Wall. In that book, I don't like the sections where he writes like he's Bonham's ghost or something. Silly BS. And that doesn't even consider the factual inaccuracies.
@privettricker Well i love it man... my favorite guitar by far. Let me know when you wanna sell that one. Keep it up man!! ps. do you have any music you wrote??? just curious. ~Perm
Can I ask where you get your bootlegs from? I've been looking for them but I guess I've been looking in the wrong places. The ones I've found don't have great audio quality and I would love to hear them.
@privettricker you know why these zep studio products sound so perfect though, dontcha? beelzebub is a hella producer. haha. but seriously, boleskine house, the former residence of occultist aleister crowley, was owned by page for most of zep's career. uh, yeah...let the devil eat your soul and then i'll buy the residence and go on to entice the stupid. hahaha. think about it
Great work again. I saw the 1977 tour. Attended the Pontiac Silverdome show that set the attendance record (at that time) for an indoor concert. We were on the main floor, row 30 or so slightly stage right. Still have my ticket stub. The acoustics in the Silverdome sucked, but on main floor were pretty good. I just remember it being one of the loudest concerts I've seen, and I've seen hundreds. One of the top 5 rock and roll bands of all time, no question.
@nicklassayshi IK It's a Crybaby. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of those. I haven't found a Dunlop model that has a wide enough sweep for my tastes. But I don't use effects often enough to justify spending more money on a better pedal.
I don't understand why the economy is in such bad shape...with your T-shirt collection, guitars and Led Zep paraphenalia you equal the GDP of Belgium by yourself LOL!
I saw the lads play in the early 70's and it was one of the best concerts I had ever seen. When JP pulled out his bow and started playing it on his LP I about freaked. Well I was a little "enhanced" at the time...it was great though. Do you have a bow laying around.
@RS1Comedy1Vids Just a Crybaby wah. And if you think I have a lot of Zeppelin books, you should see my bootleg collection. I'm just a tad obsessive about the band.
Holy shit I saw your face.
