Macs don't get viruses as easily as PC's do, they have a very excellent defence mechanism already built into the machine. Most of the viruses are actually created for PC cause that's their easier target. There are viruses for Macs, but the chances of a Mac getting a virus is 10 to 100. The chances of a PC getting a virus is probably 50-60 to 100. People tend to get a Mac cause it doesn't get a virus as easily like a PC does, and you don't need an antivirus... That's my opinion.

@LorrDx The only reason you can't install OSX on a PC is that apple try and stop you from doing it, So what you have here is the only limiting factor being apple's greed.
PCs are far more compatible. If we expand it past simply operating systems to hardware and flexibility your mac looses many many times. I can build a PC using a variety of components based upon function, you can't on a mac.
You don't need OSX once you have windows and linux. (If you REALLY want it, Hackintosh)

Stability is the responsibility of the OEM manufacturers or the individual building the computer. A lot of the time they use sub-standard hardware configurations to be able to sell computers cheap. This means that the low end user gets the wrong impression of the OS.

I just find that when you are looking at a home OS you would need something that is easier to work with than Linux. For the Average home user that would certainly be the case. @wehatemacs Today I installed Win7 (for games). How much time: 4 hours. Not so much installing the OS, but all the drivers, basic software, antivirus, etc. and to get them work.
Win7 has nothing but weights 15 Gb after a fresh install.
Ubuntu is packaged on a regular 700 Mb CD-ROM, and has much more than what you may need.
It recognizes all my hardware and needs 15 minutes to install, and is ready to work on after that.
So for me, Linux, or at least the Ubuntu distribution is easier than Windows

Flash is already installed when you fire up Ubuntu for the first time.
If the software is not in the Software Center, there are 2 solutions. 1) add a new repository 2) Download a .deb package you can install with one click.
Today computers run browsers 90% of the time, and then a bit of text and photos.

I use the netbook distribution though, so some things were obviously cut out. The software center doesn't have everything, and when you're trying to get something that doesn't have a .deb package for Ubuntu, you do have to use terminal. These are for the power user, you understand. All in all, I'm very happy with Ubuntu. But installing graphics drivers sucks.

I own both Mac and PC. I have yet to see anything a mac can do that a PC can't do. Nor have I seen a Mac do anything better, except when it comes to music. Though that's just my opinion and preference of the music software. As a 3D and Graphic artist, PC runs just as good if not better in most situations from my graphic arts experience. Also as a gamer, there's no better choice than a PC, period. Mac is slowly getting into gaming though.

I also like flexibility which apple don't give you. and I also like a good price, which apple definitely give you for the actual bare bones offering they give to you.

Macs are the MOST compatible, they have bootcamp aswell as OS X.
So macs can get everything a PC can get, plus more.

@LorrDx The only reason you can't install OSX on a PC is that apple try and stop you from doing it, So what you have here is the only limiting factor being apple's greed.
PCs are far more compatible. If we expand it past simply operating systems to hardware and flexibility your mac looses many many times. I can build a PC using a variety of components based upon function, you can't on a mac.
You don't need OSX once you have windows and linux. (If you REALLY want it, Hackintosh)

@LorrDx Saying that all PCs crash alot is a generalisation. My PC hasn't crashed or needed a restart in the past 68 days. Even before that time my PC has never crashed, only required the very occasional restart for an update.
Stability is the responsibility of the OEM manufacturers or the individual building the computer. A lot of the time they use sub-standard hardware configurations to be able to sell computers cheap. This means that the low end user gets the wrong impression of the OS.

I just find that when you are looking at a home OS you would need something that is easier to work with than Linux. For the Average home user that would certainly be the case. But for Moding ability and expandability, linux is definitely FTW

@wehatemacs Today I installed Win7 (for games). How much time: 4 hours. Not so much installing the OS, but all the drivers, basic software, antivirus, etc. and to get them work.
Win7 has nothing but weights 15 Gb after a fresh install.
Ubuntu is packaged on a regular 700 Mb CD-ROM, and has much more than what you may need.
It recognizes all my hardware and needs 15 minutes to install, and is ready to work on after that.
So for me, Linux, or at least the Ubuntu distribution is easier than Windows

@mathieuemi666 For the *basic* user, Ubuntu is great when you don't need to install anything else. But say you want to install a new software that isn't in the Ubuntu Software Center. What do you do? Go to terminal, and write in fifteen lines of commands. In that respect, Windows is far superior. However, if you don't need anything else, just a video player, Mozilla Firefox, and something to write in, you're good to go. Better hope you have Flash though.

Flash is already installed when you fire up Ubuntu for the first time.
If the software is not in the Software Center, there are 2 solutions. 1) add a new repository 2) Download a .deb package you can install with one click.
Today computers run browsers 90% of the time, and then a bit of text and photos.

I use the netbook distribution though, so some things were obviously cut out. The software center doesn't have everything, and when you're trying to get something that doesn't have a .deb package for Ubuntu, you do have to use terminal. These are for the power user, you understand. All in all, I'm very happy with Ubuntu. But installing graphics drivers sucks.

There are better programs out there than the ones built into macs; I'd rather have Sony Vegas over iMovie any day.
If you got a mac because it just simply fulfills your needs, then get a PC instead. Mac isn't bad, but PCs do everything that Mac does in that subject, but much cheaper. Except looking pretty.
With the extra money in hand, you'll be able to take your girlfriend/wife out some more.

I own both Mac and PC. I have yet to see anything a mac can do that a PC can't do. Nor have I seen a Mac do anything better, except when it comes to music. Though that's just my opinion and preference of the music software. As a 3D and Graphic artist, PC runs just as good if not better in most situations from my graphic arts experience. Also as a gamer, there's no better choice than a PC, period. Mac is slowly getting into gaming though.
