I love the bickering that these history lessons create, the Americans were British, mostly of British descent, who came to oppose British taxation, Canadians too are mostly of British and French descent, like many South American countries are of Spanish and Portuguese descent. The way of the world was for the European powers to colonise and claim land and sea routes for trade, yes people were enslaved and the European powers fought each other for hundreds of years before this !

@laurentien00 They should update their version of history by going to Nashville and see the American history park where all is well explained with the French, Dutch and Spanish contribution. This class should tell that the French settled in St-Augustine first in Florida and then were quicked out by the Spanish conquistadors.

Umm, if the States declared war on Great Britain during the War of 1812, then how did they win if they didn't gain any land? I'm just saying, the U.S. wanted to gain land, and yet they failed to gain any land because of the Treaty. ;)

I love the bickering that these history lessons create, the Americans were British, mostly of British descent, who came to oppose British taxation, Canadians too are mostly of British and French descent, like many South American countries are of Spanish and Portuguese descent. The way of the world was for the European powers to colonise and claim land and sea routes for trade, yes people were enslaved and the European powers fought each other for hundreds of years before this !

@mifo2069 the Roman Empire was built long before the British built theirs and of course it was great, Britain was part of that empire which spread mostly across the land mass of central and western europe, what the British did was was dominate the seas and spread their empire across the globe, at a time when the Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese and French set out to do the same !

Here we go, Canadians talking about how they won the War of 1812. The two years I lived in Canada that's all I heard when ever they found out I was an American. Firstly, the areas 'khanacademy' points to in Canada are Ontario, NOT Quebec. He states "still in these parts" - INCORRECT - this area of ONTARIO is largly english speaking. In fact, data from Canada's last census suggests ONLY 1.4% of Hamilton's population considers their native language to be French. STICK TO AMERICAN HISTORY!

If you were referring to the 1.4% statistic, Google search "Hamilton General Demographics" (I cannot seem to be able to post the actual link). If you were referring to Quebec vs Ontario - look at a map!
