  • Perhaps it's because when i hear Mari singing this version it evokes so many beautiful memories, or it's the song itself, no matter thank you Mari for stiring up such a lovely period in my life, you have a God given voice.

  • I think I like Ella's original the best but there has been so many great versions of this. I even like Joe Cockers' a lot. Maybe there should be a rap version too! (just kidding!)

  • Love the voice, song and arrangement....BUT THAT HAIRDO. More like a HAIR DON"T. Still very good though.

  • Whatever happened to Mari Wilson ? A marvellous voice.

I remember buying this as a single in the 1980's along with her recording of Just what I always wanted.

  • Simply put, the best of all the rest. Mari just nails it! Takes me back. Love it.

  • yes it is nice! Didn't know about her version until it was used as the theme on BBC's McCallum. Of all the others who have done it I think musically the arrangement and her voice is the best.

  • Fabulous understated version

Mari's voice is beautiful , thanks for posting

  • Really I'm absolutely eclectic. From S.S. to Mary Wilson.

  • I prefer Michael Buble.

  • I prefer Julie London

  • the WRECKING CREW --- ohhh yeah --- Baby

  • Too elevator for me. Diana Krall has her beat.

  • Loved it

  • Awesome! I have loved this song since it first cam eout in the early 1980's. Totally blew me away then and still does!

No one to beat Mari Wilson.

    The Best!

  • nice interpretation!!

  • It's great to hear Mari Wilson again

  • Esta es otra de mis versiones favoritas, y su voz, wow. Pero...¿qué onda con su peinado? ¿Qué oculta debajo?... Sin embargo, maravilloso cover.

  • man...this is too...what you call it in english,,,anyway, prefere londons version, this is okey, but it feels more thanks to a good song, this have too little blue and sorrow in it

  • Miss Mari Wilson

Is My Real And Lovely And True Mum

And That Is True And Did Get My Mum Mari To Wear This Black Dress And I Was With My Mum Mari When She Did Sing This Song Cry Me A River Live And That Is True

  • By far the best rendition of this fantastic song. A great voice with deep feeling and effortless. In my view, the saxophone/horn combination gave this the edge over other versions.

  • First saw this on--of all programs!!!--The Whistle Test and was completely knocked out!!! Mari had been talking to one of the presenters (mark ellen I think) about the song she was about to perform and then duly sang it. Half way through I laughingly realised the song was NOT about a watery landmark in the Crimean war!!! ! Course,I forgot tell anyone this for years.--Great Song,Great Delivery!!!! LOVE HER.

  • Best version of this song? Possibly. If I can find the one sung by that woman who was in Swans, I'll compare and tell you...

  • I have met mari wilson including her daughter im best friends with her

  • Her recorded vinyl version is even better with a different and perfect sax solo. Better than dare I say it, Julie London (vox ,nix sax). Most singers sing from their diaphragm except Mari Wilson who sings from her Beehive..that's the secret.

  • don't put up anymore comments regarding susan boyle .

she is not fit enough to clean Mari's arse let alone sing better than her.

  • I was only 3 years old when this was released. I remember my mum playing it over and over again, crying a river over my dad who had just died.

Now when I hear it I cry rivers over my mum, who has since passed away herself. Beautiful song, best and most beautiful performance by Mari Wilson. But it always breaks my heart.

  • @proto1type Bless you, that is just so sad, life can be so painful at times

  • ohhhh!what a song and what a hairdooooo!!!!

  • Great vocals, splendid sax but God help the hairdo!

  • Mari Wilson is my favourite version as well.

  • Mari Wilson's version is the best of all.

  • What does everyone else think, which is your preferred version of the song?

  • Fantastic song, fantastic singer. I prefer Mari Wilson's version over all others...

  • Ein wunderbares Lied!!! Es ist mir noch lange nach der Serie "McCallum" im Gedächtnis geblieben. Vielen Dank!!!!

  • Great vocals but someone please check her hair for Osama Bin Ladin. LOL

  • Amen!

  • @Fretkillr How does someone get their hair that tall? Honestly...that is one thing the world may never know!

  • @kaylabainfilms A thing called hairspray :)

  • @Fretkillr The female hair version of Donald Trump.

  • Brill !

Saw her supporting Roxy Music at Birmingham NEC in the early 80s

  • Such a great song and a very talented and adorable artist.

She is almost as good as Mary Doll. Rab C Nesbitt's wife. Shuggy and wife were visiting from Sidcup. Mary got up and song this song.

    FANTASTIC

  • She's just amazing! I love her. Please check out my videos :).

  • Wow! Mari sure sings this Julie London Classic with such care & emotion, it suits her style perfectly...Again WoW!!! Thanks for posting this :) :) :)

  • Mari Wilson! and the Wilsations!

    Marvelous singer and marvelous band!

    Please Mari, come to Philadelphia!

I've loved you for 20 yrs.

Come to Philly, the Fillmore East.

  • Love the song. She did it as the opening for the british detective series, "McCallum"..not fond of the Marge Simpson hair do

  • susanjaffe: Well, she didn't do it specifically FOR McCallum. It was actually the closing track on her first album, which predated the show by quite few years.

I recently purchased the DVD of McCallum and they've taken it off and replaced with some sort of generic folk music. Obviously some sort of licencing issue in play, but It's amazing how removing Cry Me River has ruined the show.

  • was the McCallum version a bit faster? It did set the pace for the morgue and I missed it .Netflix has all the shows minus the song unfortunately

  • No it's the same recording. I've got it at home.

A great track all the same.

  • I had video taped the original McCallums on tv and I could have sworn she sang it a bit faster.Or something slightly different..I no longe have te video tapes so will never know..Check again please..

  • whoops..the McCallum theme was taken from the last half of the recording..It is a bit faster when I just listened again

  • That is disappointing news. I've bought the series, but not looked at it yet. The music attracted me as much as the show.

  • I got the DVD from Netflix. They have everything!!!However you can play the you tube music during the opening since there is some banal opening theme now which changes the feel.....Same actor does a good job in the early episodes of Rebus as well..

  • John Hannah, Yes, I thought he was excellent in McCallum, but a bit young or innocent to play Rebus.IMO. I can't hear this song w/o seeing McCallum. Mari Wilson really caught the essence of this song.

  • Best version ever

  • divine mari..

get her latest record it is a gem called -dolled up-

  • Wow - so expressive. Anyone got "Wonderful to be with"?

  • shes fab,but i remember a critic once said in 83 that she sings like a boiling kettle! lol she does not i love her voice....

  • Beautiful Song by a Beautiful Voice

  • Knockout!I remember seeing her live in 1982 I think at Birmingham NEC.She was the support act for Roxy Music.

  • I love this song. I have an actual cd recording of it...

  • seems to be okay now

  • It's not playing now. :(

  • She is such a goddess... right up there with Julie London and Alison Moyet.

  • It is good to hear this song!
