Zak was a very good trial singer for Savatage, taking the band in a different direction that sounded good. But I believe Jon wanted to fix something that wasn't already broken - Savatage was awesome just as they were! Cool seeing Oliva keep rocking!

I really like this song with Jon singing. Someone said his voice is deeper because of age--which is typical to expect, but I don't think it applies here. IMO his range has actually improved--seemingly in defiance of nature! Besides who would expect anybody to hit the same screaming highs they did while young and yet I've seen some vids where he does just that! Hell, I don't think it's required since he has developed additional gusto on the low end from what I hear with JOP songs.

Jon Oliva is way better than Zak Stevens. I like them both, but Oliva totally nails every fucking song. He's got one rough, mean rock and roll/metal voice!

No question...Jon's vocals are Savatage.

And Jon has been able to maintain his voice perfectly over the years...He even still hits the High Notes bang on just as if you were listening to the original album.

His extreme weight gain has not altered his vocals at all.

I think his voice has deepend considerably... but that comes with age. He still kicks ass. The only rock star I've heard yet whose vocals have not changed is Alice Cooper.
