Kaash83 - Kaash you had some real brains... Have you ever composed 2 lines in all your useless life ?
Just because you are aware of sites like itwofs etc. doesn't make you the brainiest person among all these fans... simply because you don't have anything called an "ear for music" or any music sense... sorry for that mate...
Listen to Demi Roussos' song for instance and then to Mehboobaa... imagine the atmosphere that creates as opposed to the former, which I did not even listen to twice...
Way to go Shirish! Few people can understand, assimilate, go into ecstasy as Pancham Da weaves his baton, either for a title music, song or even a passing background score...Let the dogs bark at the sun!
BTW, like you, I am a member of panchamgroup though I have not been active of late...for reasons you probably know...
RDX I've been to the website you're talking about. That guy karthik is a straight up idiot. Listen to his description of the songs inspi.red by Ilayaraja ... his favourite composer. He ensure he only mentions parts that are actually inspired. And he won't even accept many songs by S Indian songs. Even though South Indian musicians are great .. they'd always miss RD Burman and his talent.
well can you name one composer who has not taken inspiration?? And the website where you have checked by is run by an idiot. I know that guy karthik, submit a song by a South Indian musician and he burns his ass to add that song. RD Burman is a legend, wish he was alive today.
Thanks for your comment about RDB and his inspiration. I dont want to use the word lifted or plagiarism here.Even I am aware of those 45 songs chronicled by KarthikRDB composed more than 2000 songs for 300+ movies in various languages. So 45 is a very small numbers...But as Karthik himself states that RDB compositions were never balatant like Nadeem- Shravan , Anu Malik or Bappi Da. He always created an amazing song out of a marginal inspiration.
. He never went beyond first few lines that too he localized, he used to adapt them in a brilliant way and always made some brilliant additions. Few of songs were inspired but, as usual, in the inimitable R D Burman style which involves tweaking the tune beyond the initial few lines. His versions always have his usual add-ons. RDB in his very few inspired compositions just used snapshots of the original in the prelude. So very few songs are surely inspired, but no copy.
I'm in no way denying the man's talent. I mean, I think he was a pure genius when it comes to music. However, it doesn't matter if he want beyond the first few lines or not, the fact of the matter is that he didn't come up with that music all on his own, but it took someone else's effort and he capitalized on it. Whether it's one song or 1000 songs, if a composer uses someone else's work to make a tune, he is plagiarizing, regardless of how you see it. He should have cited his inspirations.
my friend there is a difference between plagiarizing and inspiration, plagiarize is stealing where as inspiration is a guidance which invokes and influence you to go beyond a level and do something on your own.Which is what RD did. For those 45 songs even Karthik forbid himself from using the term blatant or plagiarism for RDB
The only reason why anyone would avoid using such a blatant term is because it is a legend we are talking about. If music is inspired, then there should be citations made or at least a public acceptance of the original work. Of those 45 songs, so many are so obvious. The tune is almost an exact copy, RD just used different instruments. The fans can sugarcoat all the want, but the fact remains that those works were not a result of his own efforts and thoughts.
All great legends/leaders,artists or even a common person get inspired by somebody or others , its all about where you take your moment of inspiration and build upon it, not every musician is RDB. RD on various occasions admitted publicly and infrontof media the fact that he got inspired by great music allover the world and by stalwarts like Xavier Cugart, Henry Mancini, EdmondRoss, Quincy Jones, Bing Crosby, Bojoura , Demis Russos, music like Latino, calypso, Afro. He always did that...
The extreme to which you go to defend this man, shows that you are blinded by the fanship. Like I said, use any word you want, the conclusion is that the musice, and main theme of that song was coped from somewhere else. Yes, all the great legends/leaders, artists and etc have inspirations but they don't necessarily copy their works.
Every single human existence in this world needs inspiration, its not about getting blinded. You yourself referred to him as a GENIUS, GREAT COMPOSER, and a LEGEND, and when on several occasions the person has admitted his source of inspiration how can you call it a copy. you are contradicting what you said before my friend..
This is a comment from a person who doesnot know anything about music. Almost all songs are inspired in some sense or another. One can change the tempo, scale, rhythm etc and get new songs. Going by this guys definition of plagiarism all are plagiarist. Moreover, if someone copies a folk tune - it is not copying why??????

Its an original RDB composition. Few comments were removed because they were of abusive and offensive in nature
