@lovejazz42 You have missed the point entirely. Hilary was not criticizing Kogan, simply comparing his style to Oistrakh, for whom the concerto was written. She herself plays with a minimum of facial expression. The expression is in the playing!

I think Kogan had that expression because his whole brain power was focused on the execution of the music out of the violin. As a musician I can't totally empathize with that. It's the TV that brought the need for musicians to show more facial expression, as part of a new area called showmanship...

On a lighter note, his eyes in the facial expression reminds me a little of a certain Frankenstein... ;-P

Kogan uncorfotable almost in panic! haha! I have to agree with dududevynidu. This girl (I don't know who she is) who is probably one of the new great virtuosos around has comments which makes us panic! Let's hope she was just trying to make a joke.

@OmarFadul It's Hilary Hahn. I totally agree with her. His facial expressions aren't the most comfortable thing to watch but he plays fantastically. She plays with a very straight composer though. Just different styles! :)
