The reference to "Say Don, say Don. Hey man I didn't know you were here holmes" is apparently a reference to Don Cornelius. R.I.P. Mr Soul Train Man!!!
This was a groove that will continue to make all generations move, non stop with a finger pop, guaranteed to make your body rock.......If you don't dance to this "you got a hole - in - your - soul................and you don't eat fried chicken on Sundays......................I ain't lyin...........
Who said 1977 was a bad year for music? Between the Isley Brothers, The Brothers Johnson, Ohio Players and Marvin....what more could you ask for? We miss you Marvin.
The Spring into the Summer of 1977 started so very good promising in Music to making it the best year not heard from or seen since after the 1960s until Elvis Presley died in August. That damn ruined it from what could have been a lot better year ending. The World Series Championship was the only thing good in the later half of 1977.
@BBQFanNo1 I agreed with everything you said until until you mentioned the World series in 1977,L.A. Dodgers fan with painful memories of the Jaxhammers long balls.lol
the last seven to nine years of his life were plagued by drug addiction and paranoia he also endured public scrutiny by berry gordy because he hadn't had a hit since 1973 and this was his biggest U.S. late 70s hit
3% annual growth is not sustainable on this planet. We have to face reality. May mean going hungry but law and order has to keep the beast at bay in an equal society. Never know what's round the next corner in this universe.
i didnt realize until i heard this classic again how much marvin gaye influence micheal jackson's perfomances on songs like "dont stop til you get enough"
WOW, Everybody has Part 1, but I had the 45 and Part 2 was on the back, so we would turn it over at the party and keep it going....Nobody wanted to stop dancing when this was on, so go to the fridge, get a coke, and dance back into the room...I forgot that memory...Go Marvin, Go Marvin...Party was ON...Thanks for this Post...!
Never have been more in support of state sponsored execution than I'm am now with this one person that has the nerve to dislikes this song. Obviously a soul terrorist.
"Let's Dance Let's Shout Gettin Funky What It's All About" part on Part II seems to have been inspiration for Shake Your Body Down To The Ground by The Jacksons
Finally! The full version of this funky, groovy, got-to-get-up-and-dance song. I had so much fun in the summer of 1977 in Tallulah, LA; this was the main song played in all the little juke joints down there. I lost about 30 pounds that summer, 'cause I could dance to the whole song since I was 22 at the time. But hey, I can still groove at age 56, just have to take it a little slower. Thank you djloveoldschool for the post!
This Song Represents Family, Reunions, Summer BBQ's, Past Interactions With Family No Longer Here. Watching The Grown Folks That Was Just Sitting On They But Suddenly Get Up! Lol!
Boy, this song bring back memories of when I was little and my parents put this on. It was a party for sure. Parties and music isn't good like this anymore. Blast from the past.
i remember being a 12 yr old when marvin gaye was killed on this day april 1st 1984 and it was just like a family member had been lost the sadness in my parents face!
This song goes back again to the upbeat song recording period of Marvin Gaye in 1963 and 1964. Releases like these dance songs by him on the radio have not been around prior to 1977 here with this song release since 1965 with his 1964 recordings.
@ezywonder That’s the truth!! A lot of people sweated their hair out and clothes off this song in a many of club back in the day. You didn't need a gym you just put this song on and you would lose 10 lbs.
Listening almost 4 hours straight to this song.
