  • just the fact that he made his sheets in colour makes me love this guy

  • ...and what about the camera on a standard, i think this is very pity for a kind of lecture as this, i realy want to hear theory's about this fenomenologie.

    Q: What's a BANG without a SOUND?

  • ever heard of dubbing? very disappointed in the sound quality, missed his lecture!

  • "imaging radars" +"mathforum" google.com.

  • whats north of the north pole?

  • I have posted a video showing various pre big scenarios currently being discussed in the literature. Its a rebuttal to many theists who claim the big bang proves a beginning of time. Click on my name to see it.

  • the sound SUCKS on this vid its impossible to hear him.

  • Scientists are today 100 percent sure of the fact of evolution via natural selection for the answer to the origin of organic life. However, at this moment in time, there is no 100 percent satisfiying answer about the origin of the big bang although I'm prepared to accept that it may just have happened spontaineously like the existance of anti matter in a vaccum.

  • scientists are never 100% certain of anything, lrn2scientificmethod.

  • @Mayer200 only problem is that pesky species barrier !

  • We derive our energy not from harnessing global forces, but by burning dead plants (oil and coal).

This question is very important to us or any intelligent civilization in our or any other universe. But unfortunately we are just infants in our quest to fully understand everything in the universe and how we even got here.

I am convinced that among the millions or even billions of other intelligent civilizations in THIS universe alone, there are many species who have the answer to this question.

  • We are simply too young as a species to answer this question anytime soon. Right now we are infants just learning how to crawl in our quest to master the universe. That is of course if we don't kill ourselves before then, which is very likely in most civilizations throughout the universe.

There are three types of civilizations. Type I, II, and III, which have mastered planetary, stellar and galactic forms of energy, respectively. Currently, our energy output qualifies us for Type 0 status.

  • Is Penrose's Theory Died?

  • it's entirely reasonable that if singularities don't exist, then information regarding a prior time could potentially be retrieved.

  • this question drives me crazy, no one will ever know i think

  • Scientists have unanimously agreed that before the Big Bang was the First Date.

  • (chuckle) Very clever.

I see you' ve found yourself another screen name, ludachris.

  • Scientists have also unanimously agreed that after the Big Bang was the Back Rub.

  • Scientists have also unanimously agreed that before the Big Bang was the Prom Night.

  • Scientist unanumously believe (except Hawkins) that before the Prom Night was a raw sex like pleasure experienced by immortal souls. ROFL

  • Sodomy is timeless.

  • wow, you can publish that in the journal nature, thats a seed for great unification theory.....boy!, I want to go and unify myself to a young sassy blonde chick!, see ya!

  • It's a shame the sound is so terrible.

    Nonetheless, much thanks for posting.

  • great stuff, is there a sequal?

  • I <3 Penrose

  • I <3 Maybe

  • god not exist, one make the reality

  • GOD NOT EXIST,ONE MAKE THE REALITY

  • Weirdo

  • Our 3 closest relatives chimpanzees, gorillas, and Orangutans have a total of 48 chromosomes, 24 from mother 24 from father. Humans only have 46. 2 chromosomes would not be possible to simply disappear from our DNA otherwise our connection to these apes would be nullified. The only possibility was that 2 of the chromosomes fused together. This in fact did happen and was proved by geneticist. I added to my favorites a vid explaining this.

  • For instance because of our use of computers and personal communication devices we are measurably faster in our use of these technology's. I'm not sure if this correlates but our IQ's are going up by 2 points every 10 years as well.

We did not evolve from reptiles or monkeys. We evolved from a common ancestor to apes. we in fact are apes.

  • It is thought that the use of computers with abstract graphical interfaces causes the brain to develop differently--especially if an individual is exposed to computers at an early age. One result of this is that we are getting better at doing some of the things that IQ tests measure. It doesn't mean we are getting smarter. Similar effects are found in people who learn to write in Chinese or Japanese. The brain is very good at adapting!

  • One thing that could potentially cause us to change as a species is modern medicine...particularly the assistance given to reproduction. We have fertility clinics that specialize in making it possible for people who would otherwise be infertile to have children and pass on their flawed genes. We also assist mothers during pregnancy who would normally miscarry and we save the lives of premature babies. If this continues for many centuries we could become dependent on this technology.

  • Note: this wouldn't be the first case in which technology changed us as a species. When we began using tools and weapons to hunt and protect ourselves, we lost the ability to survive without tools. When we began doing agriculture, we adapted to better survive off of the things that we were farming (see the reference to milk above as one example). Our jaws also became weaker. Speech is another major technology that changed the structure of our brains as well as our faces, tongue, and larynx.

  • @camino1ca That is very true, but i don't understand why there was a need for a mutation to occur in which a specie questions its own existence. I mean questioning ones existence and consciousness does not help the specie survive in its environment which evolution always intends.

  • Personally i think this big bang theory is BS.

What valid proof is there ?

And how can these scientists determine how long ago it occured ?

And lastly if they know so much about evolution what is the next stage for us humans ?

i.e, they say we evolved from reptiles or monkeys so we must still be evolving. What is the next step ?

If you can answer any of the above questions for me, i would really appreciate it !!!

  • If you watch the whole lecture, you'll see that this is actually challenging the details of the standard hot big bang model. The best evidence for the hot big bang model is the spectrum of the CMBR coupled with the fact that the universe is observed to be expanding. Running time backwards, we infer that the universe was much smaller in the past. When coupled with the fact that the CMBR fits a black body spectrum, it implies that the matter in the universe was once very close together.

  • the comments you made about biological evolution aren't really relevant here and they seem completely random...but if you insist: We can't predict what changes will occur next because we don't know what we will need to adapt to. However, there are some recent results of natural selection. Here are two:

    (1) The ability to digest cow's milk.

    (2) The rarity of the B and AB blood types in Europeans because people with B and AB blood were more susceptible to the Bubonic Plague.

  • other fairly recent changes are:

    (3) the lightening of the skin as humans migrated northward. Light skin allows for more efficient utilization of sunlight to synthesize vitamin D.

    (4) blond hair, red hair, blue and green eyes.

    (5) there's a small group of women in Gambia who are immune to HIV...they don't get AIDS.

  • Thanks for the feedback well appreciated. But the reason why asked about evolution is because it relates to the expansion of the universe like you mentioned.

And if they know the universe will always be expanding and the changes that will happen here on Earth then i'm sure they can predict what we'll have to adapt to.

P.s that's not a question it's my opinion to your answer on evolution.

  • Proof is in the fact that the universe is still expanding and at an increasing rate. The big bang predicts this expansion.

I have no idea on the methods used to determine the age.

Certain predictions in evolution may be possible but evolution does not work with an end product in mind. Because of our advances in technology and medicine we have vastly changed our environment and now studies show that our brains are in fact changing to reflect this....

  • Strictly peaking, the most reliable way of getting a lower-limit on the age of the universe is by looking at the age of the oldest stars in the universe. We have a good understanding of the life cycles of stars, so we can confidently determine their ages. Until the accelerated expansion was discovered, the age of the universe (based on the Hubble time estimate) was actually less than the age of the oldest stars, so we knew that we had a problem.

Read about "Hubble's law" in Wikipedia

  • Sorry i just noticed your response. Thank you very much your interpretation of biological evolution. It seems to be the best i've heard and makes a lot sense.

  • Are you so blind to not see the infinite regress? If god was the creator then where did God come from? Something complex just existing is much more statistically improbable than something simple, i.e something atom like.

Furthermore, there's something because nothing is unstable. The energy us 0, the big bang is likely to be merely a transformation. This isn't difficult to comprehend because transitions happen all the time, such as water spontaneously forming vapour.

  • To all believers: Accept the fact that the universe was created by me. Now prove me wrong.

  • Wow, people get so emotional when they mix up religion and science. You don't need to do it.

  • Thanks for posting this, it was brilliant. I'm just finishing reading "Road to Reality" so it's perfect for me at this time.

  • Who caused god to come into being? Is he not one complication too many?

  • God is mental stupidity.

  • When you can prove existence itself has no being, no intelligent properties, no intentionality to it, than feel free to say such things. Until then you probably haven't the slightest concept of God, and you certainly lack the knowledge to support your asserted intellectual superiority.

  • Umm I no we lock people up who claim to believe in retarted things. So its only a matter of time.

  • Lock people up? You mean like Socrates? Actually they killed him. Empty threats theif, empty threats.

  • No I mean a mental hospital.

  • Yeah, I got it clear as day.

  • agreed!

  • what the fuck is a concept of god? that is stupid that makes my point even more valid. if god is just a concept its exactly what i said. so your intellectual superiority trying to sound smart i mean common. what has god ever done for you? why do things happen that should never happen...

  • What is a concept? What is a model? Both can be of real or imaginary, objective or purely subjective ideas. Saying someone has a concept of God is NOT saying someone has an imaginary friend. I'm not here to show you anything. You need to go out and find it for yourself. What else could be more satisfying. Besides, there is no proof one can present for a true disgruntled skeptic such as yourself.

  • god is just a grownups imaginary friend and someone he can look too in a time of need... when you can actually show me something that proves god did some great act then show me until then i will believe there is no god and that creation is just a long string of evolution therefore proving that there is 99% chance of life on other planets yet it be like us or creatures differing from our appearance it has to be out there? no when you can prove to me there is no chance aliens exist reply to this.

  • you will think about this giberish when you are about to die, so will I.

(Think as you wish, reality superseeds intelect..no hate, just the way it is)

  • The whole concept of existing is subjective. So to be assertive in such a claim as "there is no God" is just as dumb as the people you ridicule who are blind. What if there really is a "God" but is beyond comprehension (e.g. the Einstein concept of God) - a being of energy (or strings) but regardless of what people say or think they always want to ridicule people for their beliefs just because they're different.

  • yeah. I think you should be in between those two views. like be open minded. if there is a higher spirit which watches over us, nice, if not than you didnt waste time praying everyday.

  • "when you can actually show me something that proves god did some great act then show me until then i will believe there is no god and that creation is just a long string of evolution"

why even believe that? i mean, if both evolution can't be proven, and god can't, then don't believe anything, just wait until you die to see what happens.

  • you end up in a box 6 feet under. there may be a god but he doesnt listen to all your prayers he doesnt help you in a time of need, he doesnt help starvation africa... if he was so great why not send another son like jesus to show us the way.

  • god gave man freedom of choice. not saying that Africans are choosing to starve, it's because of the rotten government. if you get rid of one dictator there, another one takes his place.

if the african gov made the choice to help it's starving, they'd be helped.

jesus will be back to fix things someday.

  • theres lots of rotten dictators but maybe the invisible one with the most power should be the first to b got rid of?

  • "if the african gov made the choice to help it's starving, they'd be helped. "

you see here is your problem you are pushing yourself to make comments on matter of high caliber physics but lacking grade school knowledge in geography - Africa is not country but continent consisting of 52 completely different and independent countries. Ask jesus next time you talk to him to explain it to you.

  • There is a God. And I will prove it... How did the big bang happen...Scientist say there was a single atom before the big bang that had some reaction to make the universe...well than were did that atom come from? Did one day it just appear out of nowhere! Exactly, god made the universe, my statement above proves it. God doesn't need to send Jesus down to show us the way, because nobody will believe him especially not in the modern world, where people will think he is crazy but I will believe him

  • >>Scientist say there was a single atom before

    >>the big bang

No, scientists do not say there was a single atom before the big bang.

  • Ok then what was it before the big bang. Ha, exactly there had to be something to make a big bang, and where did that "something" come from. Ok say there was hundreds of atoms before the big bang... where did they come from!!! Exactly.

  • >>Ok then what was it before the big bang.

The answer is that scientists don't know. I was simply pointing out that scientists do not claim that the singularity was a single atom.

But hey, if you want to use incredulity to give yourself answers, more power to you.

  • a computer, most will agree is a sophisticated piece of equipment with data, memory, etc. but a computer can't make itself, it takes human minds and hands to do that.

now even the big bang (true or not) proves there's a god because from the big bang came atoms, molecules, the universe, life, intelligence, etc. so the big bang is a more sophisticated, complex piece of equipment than a computer, yet there are those who think that things just happened without a creator

  • cont'd

which is funny and ironic how it takes people to make a computer, but yet, the universe is something that just happened.

  • >>yet there are those who think that things

    >>just happened without a creator

Like I said, if you want to use incredulity to answer things, fine by me; just don't expect to sound intelligent when you use such arguments.

  • "just don't expect to sound intelligent when you use such arguments."

then how was the big bang formed? i mean the big bang before it exploded?

there are those who say that it wasn't an explosion, but more like an expansion.

  • >>then how was the big bang formed?

If you're referring to what caused the singularity, the answer is we don't know. If you want to use god to fill in the gaps, go ahead; however your "something must have done it" argument doesn't convince people like me, and as far a logic goes, isn't very good. If you need to justify your faith through some sort of naturalistic explanation, then it isn't very strong in the first place.

  • You are dead wrong. Computers make themselves all the time. They just happen to be biological automatons with organic brains as computers. These computers evolved via unguided natural processes and are not "designed". Both Paley and his arguments are long dead. Even modern human "designed" computers show a clear evolutionary history guided by selection. Computational advancement is a good analogy to biological selection and evolution.

  • Lol

  • The answer will never be found

  • What is the other side of the Universe, is there another side at all. It's not wat happened before the big bang but how did nothing came to be something where how and when did the universe came to be is there a when at all? It's mind boggling !@#$%

  • no matter what It had to existence and that is the big question

You can argue to the end of your life and you won't be able to prove it one way or the other. What is important is, what was before and how it come to existence. After all religion and science found common ground.

After all it might come to the point, where they were right all the time. So it might be created after all and if so question arises by whom and why. Good luck in finding the answer

  • Yes, he is probably correct because if the Universe became ALL PHOTONS then space-time disappears. If you were a photon, then you could pop out the other side of the Universe as if no time had passed at all. For a photon, the Universe is a point - a SINGULARITY! Voila.

  • lol! love it.
