This piece was originally arranged for David Oistrakh. Professor Lin Yao Ji, who studied in Moscow in the early sixties, fell in love with the piece and brought the music back to China. When his student Li Chuan Yun played it for Dorothy Delay in the nineties in NYC, while he was studying with her, it was her first time to hear it. Apparently she was very moved and asked where this music was from?
glad you mentioned oistrakh...his recording of this is just the definition of soviet violinist, and the soul of russian music. its sad, i find chuanyun a cool violinist, sounds great fooling around. but he just completely butchers this piece and many others
