  • Just beautiful.

  • had we not divided , we would have been a cultural and economic force to recon with.

  • The first line of Shakespeare’s Othello goes as follows: “If music be the food of love, then play on.” How very true of this song. One could play it forever. God Bless Farida Khanum!

  • such a nice singer, such lovely lyrics and such a great mood of singing. i love it.

  • i'd expect that songs these days would expand on the depth of feeling in lyrics from old times, but i've found that only older songs have such poetic lines and can capture so much emotion.

  • Is this singer I mean Farida Khanum is Pakistani or Indian (Please don't take it in a wrong way no racism)

  • @sukhoi34russia

She is a pakistani mate :)

  • Singularly most beautiful, pure, simple lyric, .... No florid language for this beseechment, just Farida Bibi's hauntingly beautiful rendition. No 'zid' my dear - will stay & clock up another thousand hits - for now. god bless

  • This is the one of those I can listen to whole my life.

  • Thumbs up if you think of "someone" when listening to this song....

  • *Khanum

  • best gajhal i ve ever heard!

    Farida Khanam truely is fantastic!

you could not choose anyone else than Madhubalaji for this video, its like Faridaji sang this song for Madhubalaji.

  • Bekaar ghazal.Cheap poetry.Madhubala is ok surely not a beauty.

  • @dhawan56 obscure cuckold. zealous husband. failed profession. script is Ok but sensibility surely not human...

  • Get your eyes tested, pls

  • The nuances in this rendition are extremely fine...laughing, beckoning, frolicking, in anguish....at different points. Just the way this ghazal would have had been sung 3 centuries back.

  • Both songs - Ashaji's as well as Faridaji's version are equally beautiful yet different in styles. Not comparable to one another.

  • Evergreen Madhubala.May the triple jems bless you.

  • Youtube counting is inaccurate. I alone have listened to this awesomeness a gazillion times.

  • actual song sung by habib wali muhammad in a Pakistani movie

  • Waqt ki qaid main zindagi hai magar chand gharhiya yehi hai jo azaad hai...inko khokar meri jaanejana umra bhar na taraste raho

  • <3 <3 <3

  • Farida Khanum is realy Great.......I love this Gazal....

  • SOULFUL !! OUT OF THE WORLD.

  • ohh beautiful song..

  • gazal requires a husky voice that suits with the nature of gazal , just a nice melodious voice doesnt do the justice

  • the lyrics are really great any idea who wrote this beautiful gazal, i especially liked the line waqt ki kaid men zindagi hai magar yeh jo ghadi hai jo azad hai

  • @51rajiv The famous "Faiz Ahmed Faiz" has written this one.

  • Respond to this video... nice

  • @curlyarrow

I think the poet is Fayyaz Hashmi and not Faiz Ahmed Faiz

  • @curlyarrow Hello there. This beautiful ghazal has been penned by Fayyaz Hashmi and not Faiz Sahab. :)

  • @curlyarrow the sad part is you have written "Faiz Ahmed Faiz" and four people have liked it. It is actually written by the "famous" " Faiyaz Hashmi"....

  • @curlyarrow This has been written by Fayyaz Hashmi and not by Faiz Ahmed Faiz.

  • @51rajiv The poet is Sehba Akhtar, and not Faiz, please correct the record.

  • @essaysanam

I think the poet is Fayyaz Hasmi

  • Ham tu lut jyengy....aisi baatein kya na karoooo.......wah wah!!

  • khayal in all its glory

  • i love ds song.....

  • awesome song...so soothing....

  • GOD Bless Farida Khanum...Heart Touching...Asha Bhosle's version doesnt have the soul that this version has...not to mention Asha Bhosle is one of the best singer.

  • Wonderful combination of beautiful voice and heavenly face of Farida Khanum and Madhubala

  • wah wah....

  • totally incapacitated.....loved it so much......

  • loved it sooo.. much..

  • sigh

  • faridaji's song is the best nothing can beat that......

  • I like Ashaji's rendition and Faridaji's rendition too. Though they both sang the same song, they sang it in their own way. The new one has western accompaniments. It's like listening to two different songs. I can't understand how people can compare these two gems. I just can't decide who's better.

  • Who is the lyricist of this song? He or she must be a great poet.

  • Timeless

  • the most selodious, such expressions, it's the best just the best

  • Best presentation of a great voice on You Tube

Here is the translation of the magnificent stanza beginning with ..Waqt ki keyd mein

Indeed, life is a prisoner of Time,

In that these are the moments which are Free

In losing these, my dearest, Make sure that you do not remain thirsty the entire life

  • awesum ghazal

  • awesum ghazal

  • yuun he pehluu me baithee raho,,,yaar kitne simple words hai, magar dil ke kitnee kareeb mehsuus hote hai,,koon kehta hai kathin ya difficult words ke bina sher-o-oshayri adhoori hoti hai,,"AAJ JAANE KE ZIDD NAA KARO" kitni plain aur simple language hai magar kya khoobsurti hai yaar,,,kasam se,,dnt wid all due respect,,kindly dont compare singers,,like asha ,lata and fareeda,,you aint authorized to do dat man,,

  • I find farida's voice heavenly.

  • both asha and farida are great singers of all time, no point in comparing because there are so many differences, and yet both are melodious and when you hear it ,you feel the very best in the world as you can hear the best song of ......era....just enjoy nothing else....no boundary shall come between music.....

  • FAYYAZ HASHMI IS THE LYRICIST OR POET

  • yahaan ek banda jahannem jaane ki zidd kar raha hai.

  • I am Indian, but I have to say that the Urdu language trumps all others in its beauty and grace..And this rendition by Farida Khanum is sublime..

  • @glidervin What is the BUT for when you say "I am an Indian but I have to say" . Urdu is a language. There is no India / Pakistan or Hindu / Musalman issue in it. It is a great language. And that is it. So are other regional languages. But due to aggression of west both in India and Pakistan along with Urdu other regional languages and our subcontinent's music are losing their following.

  • asha bhosle is great singer but no match for this voice & style....

  • @rameshthaker Bhosle does not have a Ghazal voice - and Urdu is not her native language.

  • nice pix dude .. thanks !!

luv this song ur vdo make it more beautiful !!

  • outstanding

  • Who did thumbs down?? Come see me I'll teach you

  • One of the best ghazals.very well sung.

  • Wat a song...mesmerising voice...But no comparision...ASHA BHOSLE & FARIDA KHANUM both are legend....

  • i'm an indian...but this truly trumps asha's rendition. simply mesmerizing.

  • song and the video awll r just comendable................

    awsemmmmm

  • Believe me its far better than compared to asha bhosle for this song

  • awesome voice!!!!! salaam!!

  • ohhhh myy ghoshh!!! i got goose pimples!!!!! d voice can peirce into you...!!!!!!! farida ji...aur unki kala ko mera salaam!!

  • no doubt the greatest Ghazal siger of all times...Farida Khanum is the Rock Star of Ghazal singing...her selection and choice of poetry can give you an insight to her own sensitive, intelligent mind..she definitely can inspire...

  • this is the original version rest r all copies in cluding asha bhosle

  • please please, this is originally sung by habib wali mohammed.

  • hundredeyes4u its avery soft an beautiful song i like it love u all

  • @samyabad ... agreed ... you are absolutely , every language has its own beauty...

  • the music they were the real singers and whole country has just got lost somewhere

now listening to these timeless music is incredible

my favourite singer is elvis presley mohammed rufi dolly parton michael jackson manade ..........

  • love it!

  • It is not merely singing it carries the emotions it needs to; minimal use of music coupled with highly polished delivery has enhanced the impact of Farida Khanum's rendition of this beautiful song. Kudos!

  • Tumhi socho zara Just ponder for a second kyu'n na rokein tumhey Why shouldn't I stop you? jaan jaati hai jab uth ke jaatey ho tum When my life leaves every time you go tum ko apni qasam jaan-e-jaa'n I swear to you, my love baat itni meri maan lo Listen to my one request Aaj jaane ki zid na karo Tonight, dont insist on leaving
  • Aaj jaane ki zid na karo Tonight, dont insist on leaving Yunhi pehlu mein bethey raho Sit here close to me Haaye mar jaayein ge... I will die Hum to lutt jaayein ge I will be lost Aisi baatein kiya na karo Don't say such things Aaj jaane ki zid na karo Tonight, dont insist on leaving
  • bhai (TONIGHT) ya rat ka to pury song may kahi zikar he nahi

  • a beautiful ghazal from Farida Khanum !

  • awesome

  • excellent composition.............

  • A wonderful pain killer ghazal

  • Madhubala and Aaj jane ki zid na karo what a heady cocktail

  • why there are photos of Madhubala for this video? The fact is that Beauty and Sur are both divine. There is no bar or boundaries for such things.

  • why need Madhubalas photos? Beauty is divine so the sur who it may belongs!

  • awesome lyrics..............

  • This is far more melodious n romantic than the Asha Bhonsle version

  • @akila2808 this is ORIGINAL. And timeless . never had such lyrics in any ghazal...

  • @akila2808 it's the original thats why

  • @akila2808 don't compare. Both versions are of different dimensions...

    But its very nice, nonetheless!

  • @akila2808 this Ghazal is originally by Fareeda Khanum... Asha just sang it later..

  • @akila2808 u might b correct but I find Habib Wali Muhammad's version the best it's very straight and touhcing

unlike the way Farida khanum and Asha Bhosle copied

  • @filza18pk

habib wali mohammad is so underated, he sang it masterfully no doubt. But can't to farida khanum. Sowie dun agee with u.

  • @akila2808

Asha Taais version was a modern jazzed up version with western orchestration and fusion like taans and cello etc I think she did a marvellous job of it! Then Faridajis version is the classical Ghazal version sung in Yaman!( full of shringaar ras!

If you ever heard Yaman rendition by Kishori Amonkar ji she very specifically brings out the deep devotional plainif cries of the soul pining for the Lord and Master and the much awaited reunion! it is " Eri Aali Piya bin sakhi" in Drut gat

  • undoubtedly this is more melodious from anyone else.

  • @akila2808 listen to the original by Habib Wali Mohammad

  • @akila2808

I do agree sir. This rendition is something special. Asha's is very very good but Faridaji was excellent in this song. No disrespect to Asha tai.

  • I agree... music is more than just than technical stuff like taal and raag. Appeal and emotions are more important in a ghazal and in this respect I think Farida Khanum rules!! I just absolutely love the song and the casual flair with which she has sung is so romantic!

  • arrey, kis taal pey off gayee, kis raag par theek rahi, is baat ko goli maro. Itna accha gaya hai. Im loving it. pagal log choti choti baatein lekar beth jaatey hain. koi jyada acchi tarah gata hai, that person should sing it and see if ppl listen to him.nobody is stopping anybody. khud gao jitna gana, kisi ka phaaltoo criticism mat karo. aam logon ko yeh raag aur taal ka kya pata hai and who cares. :)

  • People need to tune their ears if they think Farida Jee went off key anywhere in this rendition. :D

  • If someone says "a certain language is the best" and other say "I think other language is the best" it shows difference of opinion but instead of this if other person say "no this certain language you mentioned is not best".. it reeks of jealousy and malice.. My suggestion to some people..be careful what you are showing off here.

  • Why do I always feel that Indians have this jealousy factor in them. As a nation they really need to grow up. As you can see here someone expressed his.her opinion that Urdu is the best and Indians here are trying to prove no it is not.

  • @shifahaidry It is not Indian or others. Urdu has its origin in Delhi and is widely used in several States of Northern India. It is one of the Hindustani languages.

Each and every language has its beauty. I am an European and speak several European languages; and all are nice and not to compare. Dr. Janki Prasad Singh.

  • @26121944

how can Janki Prasad Singh be European? you may speak spanish English and/or French and german but that does NOT MAKE one European! there has to be Anglo-Saxon or Norman genetic link!

one may have a British/European passport then one is a French/ British/German/Austrian or EU citizen of INDIAN origin!

  • Urdu is undoubtedly nice, but how can you say that " it is the best". Every language has its own beauty and unique expressions. So comparison is futile. However you are free to think in your own way.

  • You are absolutely right. People have overdone this Urdu bit. Many are afraid to speak up because the motivated at once start hollering in narrow world view. If you know a language, you can appreciate its charm and sublety, if it has long poetical tradition as most Indian languages do. They are not any less than Urdu. If you don't, it might as well be Swahili. If you half understand it, just because you hear many Persian words, sounding exotic but does not make it any better poetry.

  • Most people who call urdu the best language in the world because they do not any other language. Go listen to a Chinese singer called Teresa Teng. She is as good as any urdu singer.

  • Songs r sound of loves it does not belongs to a country or a singer or even language I m Pakistan and this song is for everyone

  • @samyabad the urdu poetry is very special! I think its the BEST

  • @samyabad my dear friend u r right but urdu is not a language as independent it has evolved from arabi farsi (persian) and hindi it is a good bland of these four now on comparison it is the only laguage in the world which has all the alfabets that a heuman can sound for example arabs and russions cant pronouce t indians cant pronounce kh and take the word ghazal they call it gazal and many more. the person speaking right urdu can speak any laguage with true pronounciantion i think i clearified.

  • @samyabad ..........Urdu dunya ki aasaan tareen aur mukammal tareen zabaan hay........Urdu ki quwatt-e-jazibaa itni taqatwar hay kay dunya ki kisi bhi zabaan ka lafz ba aasaani is main poori tarah zam ho jata hay...... Neez is main izhaar ki jo gunjaaish hay woh dunyaa ki kisi bhi.....ji haan Arabi aur Faarsi samet........kisi bhi doosri zaban main naheen hay......... Aakhir Urdu say itnay hasad aur jalaapay ki wajah kiya hay?????????? Arshad Naeem Khan, Montreal, Canada

  • sobhanilla

  • the world most sweet and expressive language Urdu.

    Urdu itself poetry,music,melody.

  • Comment removed

  • yes all languages are not same, as all flowers are not rose, Urdu got a superiority over other languages, am free in my opinion, i dont find any insult for any language by praising Urdu, bye

  • Comment removed

  • You are absolutely right .... there is no dearth of ignorance in this world .... try presenting a Dalia or for that matter a cocoon to your seeetheart and then a Rose ..... your limit of the SKY will also widen .... to enjoy a Ghazal it is better to be a Frog rather than a Superman, it is an individuals choice.

  • Read and learn, maybe you will also grow... maybe...

  • Do you know any other languages? Have you listened to any Chinese singers? Probably not.

And by the way, didi you notice Faridaji went off-taal at 2.33?

  • @arvindpradhan i don't think she went off-taal at 2.33.

  • Tumko apani kasam - apani does not end on theka. She stretches it a bit.

  • superb, i love this ghazal from my teen age, well and yes the compilation of old B/W photos are are cool, thanks man

    Adnan Mirza

  • super

  • The orginal has no comparison. This is lovely
