  • I like big river better. And yeah...it's van halen without michael anthony.

  • This song has been reworked as "Big River," and will be on the new VH album!

  • great.

  • Thats probably Eddie playing bass on this session. he did that a LOT uncredited. Like McCartney going over Ringo's drums himself after hours. Like Jeff Beck coming into play the odd Page part on Zeppelin records cuz Jimmy was so fucking smacked out.

  • @shootitinthehead Paul played drums on Back in The USSR and Dear Prudence. You make it sound like it was something he did regularly. Ringo left for a couple of weeks, and Paul filled in on those songs. I'm not sure where the hell you came up with the bullshit about Beck playing on Zep records. What songs are you claiming he played on, just for s.a.g.?

  • this song should be on the new album such a killer tone its better than tatto i think at least

  • @Michaels004 they re did "shes a woman" for the new album from the same demo session... i agree this would be a killer with modern recording techiques

  • @hlmguitarsaxman tatto is an okay song and shes the woman is pretty good but really man big trouble is really great i think it would probally be very popular on this cd i wish they were touring in ohio how do you think you would suggest that to them id love to know lol

  • @Michaels004 It is! It's called "Big River"!

  • @Michaels004 It is on the new album. It's called Big River.

  • Wow they could have easily put out an album with just demos alone back in the day....How did this stuff not make it to any albums?

  • God, I saw Eddie and he looked like he was 1 nail away from the 7th casket nail.

  • I'll bet Gene Simmons charged Van Halen a finder's fee.

  • They need to add this song to natural legal highs!

  • :38 eddie's arm is fucked uppppp

  • Wow - you know the moment when you've been listening to a band for 25 years and hear something new. I truly love it. Brilliant at 2:16. I agree with an earlier comment of KILLER TUNE!! Vocals are repetetive however but this is a demo - The energy is full on. Air guitar please. Go on! This is sick.. Excellent... Brilliant rock....

  • I think the 3 airheads who dont like this should have their heads examined... KILLER TUNE!!!

  • Very cool, reminds me of the "Golden Ballroom" '77 bootleg! V.H. Forever!!! Thanx bro!

  • I hear a lot of overdubs, quite well done, by someone who allegedly never did them before Ted Templeman asked Ed to do them on VH I. Ed is quite an unreliable source on most things concerning Ed. Great song, though. I really love it!

  • I have a different recording of this. The guitar intro is a little faster and Dave does some yelps in the beginning

  • i like it, got a good catchy grove, nuthin like the screaming vh sound. but good feel to it

  • Nice video, cool song too, thanks for the post!

  • Boy they really didn't have their song writing chops down yet. Most of these songs suck kinda hard. What's interesting about VH though is that they don't really have an obvious influence, they don't sound like anyone that came before them. They were great.....until Hagar showed up.

  • this sounds like the G. Simmons demo. He brought them into the studio and totally dried out their sound. I have another different version of this song.

  • Mike is playing his ass off on this song!

  • does anyone have this song but the diver down outtake?

  • where can you get a copy of this ?? Is it possible to burn this onto cd directly from you tube? CAN ANYONE TELL ME ?.. I'm dying to blast this while I'm driving.

  • only the truly worthy can posses this song. you must prove ur self by inserting both fists simultaneously into ur anus wrist deep.

  • @kskillerscream Aye aye captain

  • You can tell this is a studio version. The garage demo is a lot rawer and just flat kicks ass. This was right before Van Halen would rule the world.

  • van halen was the music genius at that time , no bullshit like today.. 87234 singers later and kindergarden

  • Unquestionably my new fav VH song. I must've listened to it about 30+ times now. Love the beat, the solo, the lyrics, melody, vox, everything!

  • This is unbelievable. I feel like I'm listening to a new VH album.... I wanna scream like a little school girl.

  • jajajajajaja....Woao...someone who feels the same way I did when I started finding out about these unreleased tunes , simply amazing , the same feeling of unmeasureable rejoice and happiness , jajajajajaja.....let´s scream baby , feels so good to know we all hardcore fans still love VH , Long live The Best R&R Band ever ....jajajajajaja !

  • One of, if not the best unreleased tune.Would love to hear the version demo'd for DD.

  • Hear the distinctiveness in Michael Anthony's vocal? It's a necessary element of their sound. It's not Van Halen without Michael Anthony.

  • Amen!!!!! So many dumbass's out there just don't get that!

  • Hooky badass guitar. Awesome harmony on the vocals. All the signatures that set this band apart from the competition.

  • this is a good song.

  • is van halen currently working on new material for a new record/cd?

  • awesome

  • Thanks for sharing man! =VH= rules!

  • when is this from?

  • 1977 i think, correct me if im wrong, its before the first album

  • @hlmguitarsaxman I heard GeneSimmons tried to change the name of the band after signing a demo-deal with VanHalen, then when he didnt like the demo,Gene told Eddie that VanHalen would never go anywhere.GeneSimmons is big stupid prick who cant play bass for shit and was only successful at writing hard/rock tunes for 13 year olds.

  • @PAULOcbi The first person VH thanks on their first album is Gene Simmons, so I guess no hard feelings then... Actually Gene is a very good bass player, he just can't remember lyrics.

  • @6t9chargerse I been teaching guitar for 12 yrs. Gene is a crappy bass player.Theres is 'zero' bass-work on any Kiss records. Check out genes solo routine on YouTube ,I think he play 2 notes.Thats if you havent seen Kiss.Ive seen them twice at MapleLeafGardens ,Toronto.

  • @PAULOcbi I've seen them live 9 times. I wouldn't exactly call what Gene does a "solo" LOL. More like some kind of noise. It would be nice to see him play a real solo. Otherwise I still think he can play bass. Cheers!

  • @6t9chargerse yea well saying Gene can play bass is fine .Calling him a greatt or very good bass player is an insult to a music lovers ears.Dont forget Kiss` music is aimed at an adolescent market, teens and pre-teens so I dont think either of us went to a Kiss show to see musicianship .lol.,

  • Yea Sure, How many Albums have yo sold... Cm-on, be Honest!!!!! Biotch!!!!

  • Yea, OK Post your albums Asshole. No albums Biotch???? Your a typical critic jerk-off!!! No work at all to speak of, but an expert on music...Right?? Yea FUCK YOU!!!!!!

  • @realtramp67 if I want comeback I`ll scrape it off ur chin. Now run along and bother sumone else.Thats what teenage virgins say"you cant say anything `cos you cant do better' or in your case 'you cant critique `cos your not a recording artist".lmao. Get a life gearbox.

  • @hlmguitarsaxman yeah was 1976 the gene simmons demos

  • @123jozef yeah it's the Zero demo's recorded with Gene Simmons.

  • Nice demo clip man! Eddie had the sweetest tone back then!

I hope they put out a new album with Roth.

  • yeah man a new album would be sweet, im getting sick of listening to same songs not that i dont like vh, i listen to them too much lol, hopefully eds tone will be just as good!

  • They are, The greatest hits cd they just released has two new songs with Roth, "Me Wise Magic" and one other I can't remember what it is. But yeah bro they are recording a new album as we speak.

  • Me Wise Magic & Can't Get This Stuff No More....that was Van Halen Best Of Vol I and it came out in like 96' bro! I have that cd already...I want some new shit with Roth man! haha

Glad to hear they're working on something!

  • Oh shit that's right! sorry bro my bad. Weren't they like two unreleased van halen tracks?

But anyway they did announce that they were coming back to the studio to record a new album with Roth and Wolfgang on bass. :)

  • The vocal harmonies are definite strong point of this one.

  • yeah i wish michael anthony was still in van halen :(

  • eh roth leaving was the real problem not anthony

  • no doubt.....van halen is van halen....best guitarist of the earth....not one of........just best....

  • i totally agree with u man

  • Love Eddie's tone. Everything they did in the early days is good.

  • GREAT SONG! I actually have a DIFFERENT recorded version of this on a bootleg. Can't remember the name of the CD. I'll dig it up. But anyways, its almost exactly the same but not as polished as this. The lyrics are also slightly different. This version is a better quality and cleaner/tighter. I read that this song was recorded several times and was ALMOST on Diver Down (rerecorded for the album at the time) but decided for Dancin in the Streets instead. Dave's decision is what Alex said.

  • cool, thanks for the info, this was the recording off the zero demos, before the first album, u should post the bootleg, id be eager to hear it

  • Damn, that's a shame. This is definitely better that their cover of Dancing in the Streets.

  • Can you imagine Gene Simmons could'nt get them a deal after doing this? As enthusiastic as Gene was about them. Kiss was the biggest band in the world at the time too. It boggles the mind. Warner Bros. and Ted Templeman were'nt so dumb.

I wonder what the record executive who passed on VH is doing now?

    Great post dude!

    5 big stars from me.

  • That solo section is awesome! These early songs are so cool.

  • Great song..!

  • This is a great tune, it smokes! I think it's actually called Big Troubles though.

  • nah i dont think so, its an awesome song!

  • the main riff sounds a lot like the chorus to runnin with the devil, of course it isn't and there is more of a riff than just chords but it sounds kinda like it with the harmonies

  • awsome!! van halen is so great this song as well

  • very cool song!

  • nice photos. great music!

  • Wow this guy needs to learn how to play guitar hero, he is fucking trash on REAL guitar.

  • yeah ur cool

  • No need to tell me.

  • bet u couldnt even come close to playing like eddie

  • I beat all the guitar heroes on expert, thus I am a better guitarist than this moron.

    GG I win you lose.

  • seriously, get a life

  • seriously, learn to play guitar hero...something that TAKES SKILL, I can learn to play guitar in 1 day.

  • you people who play guitar hero. you guys are clueless as to what record companies look for. they dont look for faggots who play guitar hero, they look for people who try to have their own style and sound nothing like anyone else

  • No one gives a rat's ass if you beat all of the Guitar Hero's on expert, just because you beat them doesn't mean in any way that you can even possibly play the real thing. Seriously, get a life dude.

  • I'm not bagging on the people who play GH for fun. The people who play competitivly, I think are stupid. I play GH, just for pure fun, and I play guitar because I find it more enjoyable. In my opinion, GH kinda killed the impression on guitar, and it helped. I still think you need to get a life though lol.

  • yeah guitar hero's fun, but i just hate people who think because they can play through the fire and flames or jordan or some song like that on expert they think they own at real guitar and bag other people who actually are good at real guitar

  • You're just jealous, you could never beat guitar hero on expert. Trash.

  • I've beat all the three GHs on expert, not very hard to do lol. Same with RB, not very hard. I enjoy playing the real thing more because you actually learn something instead of playing a plastic guitar with 5 buttons. Also, judging by your GH videos on here, you look like your 15 or 16, so I can see why you support GH more than real guitar.

  • You're good, there's no doubt but I can see you picking up a real guitar and calling it quits because you can't play Smoke on the Water or Iron Man. Plus, you won't get any girls with your StarCraft obsession.

  • You're the biggest fucking retard if you thought I was serious by the way.

So you still lose I win gg.

  • being able to play guitar hero is having the same amount of skills as a guy who sucks dicks for 10 cents everyday and lives in his mom's basement. try playing real guitar and having your own style. thats what i do and hopefully it will get me somewhere, because thats how all the good musicians got famous. IE, eddie freakin van halen. he rules

  • That was great - just starting to appreciate Van Halen again!

  • That Steve Vai....and yes, Slammy Hagard is ghey!

  • yes, yes he is and dont u foget it!

  • thats a cool Van Halen song

  • this version is way better than david lee roths solo version

  • i do like steve vai's solo in it though

  • ? way off.... they made two versions...both were original Van Halen. One in 1977 and the second one is a polished version a few years later...(the polished version was being made for Diver Down and later pulled)

  • yeah i know that, just dlr version (which is completly different from the vh version just same title) im just saying i liked vai's solo in dlr solo version

  • my bad. i misread.

  • Oh my God! :O

You put the Van Hagar logo at the start of the video!

Don't do it next time man....

Anyway, this is the best song on the Zero demo, Although none of it made it to any of the records, check out 5150EVH5150's video of E

  • (oops) Ed's 1993 solo, the intro to Big Trouble's is in it!

    So check it out

  • yeah ive seen it,

the van hagar logo looks cool ... but sammys gay! lol

    rock on diamond dave

  • amen (except the original logo beats the van hagar logo), they don't come gayer than Sammy

  • I agree with you the 2004 VH logo is better but the eagle from Van Halen Tour of the World will always be my favorite logo

  • Used to look forward to them playing this at the Golden West Ballroom on Thursday nights. Can't believe it never made it to vinyl. Thanks for posting!

  • cool its a great song and it needs to be heard!!

  • good song, I really like the samy hagar era, but 'van halen I' to 1984 was the 'real' van halen. love the picture at 2:56

  • Very cool!

  • i reckon this is one of the best unreleased vh songs

  • cool.stuff
